Is there any way this team stays up?

Post by Milltown1882 » Sun Jan 02, 2022 3:51 pm

Conceding sloppy goals week in week out. Players totally devoid of confidence. No attacking threat other than a player that’s going for a month now. Watford and Newcastle will throw the chequebook at it. A non-existent midfield.

How does this team possibly stay up?

It doesnt, it only stays up if there’s 3 worse teams in the division…

Need a big January window.

It’s not been a good day for us today. We have had 15 mins of a decent performance

Yes the way to stay up is to stop having jabs, stop wearing masks and hope and prey that things get that bad the season get cancelled

This was a must win to give is a chance
The selected players need to take a hard look in the mirror. Some clearly disinterested and lack lustre time for major changes.

Nope, seems only Watford are in the fight and Newcastle will just outspend everyone. May as well make peace with relegation.

Weakest midfield in the league and leading scorer miles off the pace plus same old tactics. To be honest we look a mid championship team at best.

Believe the team have lost the "belief" that SD often refers to. Too many out of contract players have nothing to play for now. Very sad

I can’t see it - there are no signs of a spark that might see a good run of results. We’ve no alternative plan or the players to achieve one.

This isn’t fine margins, we’re a shadow of previous seasons! Sit still in the transfer windows and this is what happens.

Well done Mr Garlick.

It's looking very difficult now. Game after game is passing us by and we can't seem to cut out the simple errors.

Sadly, I think the majority of the first XI just isn't good enough at this level - I'd be really surprised if we could turn this around now.

To me the biggest two games of the season, in terms of importance, Newcastle and today we've been shocking. Arguably our worst two showings if the season..he rabbits on about mentality, this shows where ours is. Outfought , outplayed and out coached all over the pitch and should have been 4 or 5 if we're honest.

Yup. Complacency and stagnation has come home to roost. Like Sunderland, Stoke and others before us, its been a lazy assumption by the previous board that you can keep wringing the sponge and getting enough out of it to stay up.

The top players will leave, with a Championship push to be headed by a spine of Hennessey, Mee (If he can be convinced to stay and not link up with Tarky at Newcastle), Brownhill and Jay?

We will lose a susbtantial amount from the wagebill with that, and have room to invest but bloody hell the Premier League could well have moved on from where we are capable of.

Oh for Cornet a year or two earlier!

We looked doomed in August and it isn't getting any better. The fine margins are actually chasm sized and this current group will not get us out of the bottom 3 at all this season.
Reinforcements may make a difference but only if they are STARTERS and the Manager changes his gameplan. That is very unlikely so it's 'We are the Longslide' as next season will likely be as bad.

Agree with this, but Dyche has to take a hit too, you can't expect to play 442 and hoof it to the channels and stay in the league. We have had strong ayers sat on the bench when a different formation would see all our strong players on the pitch.

New central midfielder, winger and attacking midfielder that are all good enough to start for us in this window (highly unlikely) and we’ve got a small chance - seen as though we are only 2 points adrift with a game in hand.

Can't see any respite with the next four Premier League games to increase our total of wins this season. I know we are two points off safety, but when you are reliant on Cornet to come off the bench and drag us back into the game, it's cause for concern. And he is now heading off to ACON. Where are the goals going to come from? As it stands we need to do our January business ASAP. We can't wait till the end of the month. I do think we are in last chance saloon now, we are reliant on Watford to keep losing games so that we are close to safety. It's three teams from four now. Trying to look at the glass as half full and find positives but it's grim at the moment and can't see it getting better any time soon.

No. A new man needs to be given the budget. We need fresh impetus and change. No room for sentiment despite Dyche’s previous heroics. Successful businesses don’t keep historic star performers on through sentiment. They demand performance now and pay handsomely for that. Pressure should come with the pay.

I don’t disagree - some of the football is really poor and ridiculously predictable. Dyche is definitely due a share of the blame.

Did anybody notice on 75 minutes what happened, a neat triangle of first time passes in our defensive third which led to Westwood striding out from midfield and playing in Lowton down the right. The only time in the game we passed the ball on the ground, we turned their midfield and created a good opportunity.

The rest of the game we just aimlessly hammered it onto the heads of their 3 central defenders who then headed it into midfield and broke on us time after time. Dyche has built this squad of players who cant pass a football, Dyche wants them to knock it long, Dyche spent £50m in fees on Hendrick, Brady, Rodriguez, Gibson.

A team that has been together over 3 years should be able to pass to each other and know which runs their team mates will make.

Their is nothing working from a coaches point of view.

Dyche recruits and builds a team for 442 knock it long, he hasn't been here 10 minutes and working with an old Allardyce built group.

There is a chance of us stopping up, IF they haven't thrown the towel in regarding belief.

If the captain is anything to go by in parts of the second half, then Luton here we come.

You look back to the last transfer window when we signed Collins, Roberts and Cornet, none of these players have been regulars. Our 1st 11 is so weak, we really need to make signings that will make an immediate impact

These are premier league players who currently are incapable of doing the basics like passing or tackling. Too many passengers in this current set up.

Man Utd win everything for years , then the inevitable decline , same for Liverpool , Arsenal . Same for all of us , that’s life , a flourishing of youth then a slowing down and inevitable end . We have had the great times and it cannot go on for ever . It’s no one’s fault , it’s life . So relegation is no biggie , we are not a moneyball team so cannot buy our way out of it. We may still scrape it but it’s time to rebuild . That may mean we drop a division and start again but what a journey that will be . We have done it all before and I am sure we will again . What a pleasure it has been to be a Burnley fan and see all the great games and players . Another chapter beginning maybe and if the last championship ride was anything to go by it will be great . Come on lads and lasses let’s cheer the lads on whatever the score. It’s a game .

Yes with our manager and the team having a big collective chat, whilst looking in each others eyes.

This is where those that have backbone stand up and get counted. I would hope many of our squad have the necessary backbone - still.

No chance this team stays up. Midfield is absolutely abysmal. Time and time and time again we give the ball away. Powderpuff and no creativity. We're screwed this season.

Dyche - massive fan of his and what he’s done for us but he needs to shake things up tactically and personnel wise. That performance was absolutely shambolic , the only player worth his salt today for me was Charlie Taylor with maybe an exception for Matt Lowton. We are down now unless there’s a dramatic change .

Chris Wood - it’s been like playing with 10 men with him up top now for quite some time. A giant of a man who gets shoved about way too much, looks like he has no idea at times. Should have been hooked at half time.

Dwight McNeil - what on Earth has happened to him this season? His work rate coming back looks to have diminished , this was evident on the opening day of the season where both Brighton goals came down his side and was now where to be seen. Looks sluggish and uninterested , but is undroppable with our squad.

Tarks/Mee - have no shield ahead of them and get over worked constantly, mistakes are creeping in at the worst possible time.

Westwood/Cork/Brownhill. - none of these three have a good enough passing ability to help us retain the ball. All too similar players.

JBG - not good enough for this level.
Jay/Vydra - neither gets much game time but both are inadequate at this level .

There’s not much else to say unfortunately , if the Dyche spirit has wained from his side which I’m afraid looks to be the case, then a motivated never say die group then all of a sudden becomes a below average bunch of players huffing and puffing against the big boys.

It pains me to say this but unless we bring in a few quality players and change tactically then we are 100% down .

Hope to be proven wrong

You look back to the last transfer window when we signed Collins, Roberts and Cornet, none of these players have been regulars. Our 1st 11 is so weak, we really need to make signings that will make an immediate impact
You don't think Cornet has made an instant impact seriously. I know he's had a few niggles, but when he plays he brings a different dimension to our attacking play, sadly his team mates aren't always on the same wavelength as him.

Collins and Roberts will be decent Championship players, cos make no bones about it that's where we're heading at a rate of knots.

I do agree on 1st XI signings, but who are we going to attract with the prospect of relegation looming large.
