‘We didn’t play with the edge it takes’

Post by Milltown1882 » Sun Jan 02, 2022 4:37 pm

Another standard Dyche post match interview. I wish just once he would call a spade a spade and call a performance out for what it is.

I think that was actually a pinpoint assessment. You have to believe and perhaps today, everyone hoped.

If you don’t play with ‘the edge’ in a must win game (and it really was I’m afraid. The ‘we’re still in touch’ club are clearly ignoring the fixtures we have for the next month) when do you?

If he has specific players in mind with that statement - and I could list a few - then drop them all. A statement needs to be made.

Agree with a shake up of the starting 11. Tarkowski, McNeil, Cork to name a few should be no where near the next starting 11.

That Leeds side were there for the taking, we KNEW where they were weak before a ball was kicked, and yet again we failed to exploit it.

You absolutely KNEW which players would fail to show up, and they didn’t disappoint.

A poor display, and a poor post match interview imho.

That’s us gone. And most disappointedly of all, it was with a whimper. Thank Christ we have already surpassed Derby’s total….

Apart from staring Cornet that he got wrong today his options were very limited as they have been for the last two seasons .

The worrying thing for me, is that the "edge" he talks about isn't just about responsibility on the ball, it's about the minimum requirements we used to see every game. Making that block, chasing down an attacker about to shoot, chasing back to get on the right side of an attacker, being tenacious and confident defending our box. We lose a lot of games because we simply have less quality. But we used to win points by a sheer determination not to get beat or concede a goal.

I think what Sean Dyche asks of players takes its toll mentally and physically, which is fine, but as they age the lesser quality becomes more apparent because its harder to compensate for with other strengths. Which is exactly why we made a massive boob the year we got into Europe essentially, to add to our squad and start planning for the future.

He weirdly had Dwight on the right as well. Jedi is right though some of those players need a massive kick up the arse. If we can get anything for Tarkowski we should take it. Too often he's thrown one in this season. He can **** off right now for me.

So in short, he lied again?
Shock horror, has he ever said it how it is post match?

Its now 21 points from a possible 117, 1 win on 15.
Rot has well and set in.
He is treading water , with excuse after excuse for his poor, naive approach and tactics

I'd boo if I could be arsed but I was resound to this in November.

I very rarely listen to Dyche’s pre or post match comments because, like his football, it’s predictable garbage. However, a couple of weeks ago I heard him say “he believed in the players in the squad”. As soon as I heard him say this I knew he meant he didn’t believe in the players and I am now wondering if they believe in him.

Dyche is our five star general. A genius. Who else on the footballing stage could keep a low budget club in the Premier League for such a protracted period? People who want his head are deluded beyond measure. It's Pace we should all be watching from here onwards.

Every single one of us knows it'll be exactly the same 442 poorly coached rubbish next week and for every week after that.

It's beyond terrible. Our players play in zones and are left to navigate their zone completely on their own without any help from their mates, even when it's obvious we're being pressed and can't handle the ball. The framework always comes first.

And then there is our non-league patterns of play when we're trying to "attack". First-time launches into the channel (without looking to see if anybody is even there) and big boots to the target man to try and flick it on.

I get that our squad has been badly neglected for years now, but this 442 system is making matters worse.

Ultimately though, it was always about stick or twist. Stay up with rigid football for six seasons, or drop down like many others have done after a season or two.

I don't accept that our football has to be as bad as this to give us any hope of staying up.

Anyone else would see playing such terrible as a hinderance to survival, not an aid.

You only have to look at Norwich to see it rarely works by trying to play a better brand of football with limited players though.

I'm not saying we can't play defensive and direct football. I am saying that to do that, this 442 setup with the players we have is making us so unbelievably bad with the ball it's frightening.

Sit deep, be organised, but have the ability to keep the ball for a bit to take the pressure off and be able to break out at pace in transition or you're knackered. We're knackered.

Once fit, although Lowton hasn't done too much wrong, maybe time to try Roberts at right back.

He's more forward thinking, and also has the throw as an added bonus. It's not as if we're watertight at the back anyway so his extra creativity may help us..

There's only ever 15k on, and 12k of them clap the taking of the knee, you've more chance of Dyche going 433.

The rot had set in last season, sadly those partly blind have only just woke up, those with 3 inch glasses on it might take until we are playing Wycombe on a Tuesday night

Cornet might not be fully fit...Recent soft tissue injuries and coronavirus. With that in mind there were the options of giving him the first hour, or introducing him after half time.
Beyond that, yes, limited options, Rodriguez who is now only capable of scoring against lower division teams, or Vydra whose efforts involve hitting the side netting or skying the ball high over the bar.

It’s your job to give them that edge Sean that’s what your paid for, also at the pre match presser you said you believe a professional footballer in the premier league should be able to pass the ball 20 yards…. Yours can’t Sean, that again is your job!!

Come and see me after the next home game, Wile.

I've got some magic beans that I think might be of interest to you.
You’re going on?

we'll win a few, get out off the relegation spot, and then there'll be silence from the critics as per usual.
to read some of the comments above is sickening.
Well I'd love to know when we're going to win a few, 1 win in 17, and the following next up.

Leicester (H)
Arsenal (a)
Man Utd (H)
Liverpool (H)

How many points do you expect we'll collect from that quartet of games, because on present form we'll do well to even grab a couple of draws.

I know it was, you were only saying you wanted some the other day weren't you.

Meet me outside the Bob Lord on the 15th and I'll sort you out.
