Tactics / strategy
This is not a Dyche bashing post but I was totally baffled by two tactical plays today:
1) Why wasn't Cork put out of his misery at half time and replaced with Stephens (or anyone for that matter)
2) Why move Cornet to left midfield and make him track back when he was our only bright spark up front all game?
I may be missing something obvious here, but I find those two things particularly disturbing.

Re: Tactics / strategy
Certainly can’t understand 2). Baffling. Looked out only chance of scoring and became in effective on the Left. Really hope we’re not planning on him replacing Dwight!!!
Re: Tactics / strategy
The thing that I am confused with is Wood's replacement, despite us going long to chase the game.
He won a decent number of headers all game but Lennon didn't get on any flick ons. Cornet got on the end of a few 2nd half and we looked for dangerous for it, but Wood was then hooked.

Number 2. No idea.
What got it for me from a players pov was the freekick at 2-1 down. Cornet had already bashed one in. The ball was dead for 2 minutes. Cornet want it again, only for Weatwood to float one in to nothing and Cork (I think) giving a freekick away. 2 minutes to decide on something and we are hopeless, what chance do we have when there’s only 5 seconds to make a decision .

Re: Tactics / strategy
I'll have a stab an answering the questions...
1.) Because Stephens probably can't do much in a 442, especially against a side as energetic dynamic as Leeds. Brining on Stephens would probably have required a formation change and we know that is just not possible.
2.) Cornet probably isn't a number 10 and wasn't getting much joy from the big boots up to him after his sublime free kick. Cornet is probably best operating on the left of a three man forward line but that would require a formation change and we know that is not possible.

Glad someone else mentioned this. So, so frustrating. Was it too far out? Didn’t look it to me.Dyched wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:25 pmNumber 2. No idea.

Re: Tactics / strategy
Fair enough but Cork can't seem to play in a 2 either and Stephens looks better on the ball.
Hasn't Cornet played his best for us up front? He's our only goal threat.

I'm not sure why we brought off Wood and brought on Vydra and Rodriguez to play upfront if our intention was to keep hammering it long? strange one

Re: Tactics / strategy
Those short corners we have started doing also recently...
Re: Tactics / strategy
Possibly was too far out. Even so, aim for the back post, have Wood, Tarks and Mee charging in to try get a head on it. Defending those is difficult. But to just float one in makes it all far too easy to defend. So poor decisions, time after time. We’re so poor are very simple things.
Re: Tactics / strategy
Disagree with both. Dyche signed them both knowing his favoured formation being 4.4.2. Stephens injury may impact this, but Cornet has been our bright spark in the number 10 role and offers far more than anyone else in that position.ksrclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:25 pmI'll have a stab an answering the questions...

We have given the opposition free shots around the D
Resulting in goals at Old Trafford and today .
Hope they can resolve the problem soon .

Re: Tactics / strategy
Fair enough. Cornet has looked his best in the number 10 role but he still doesn't look right there to me. He's by far and away our best player regardless but I think he'd be better coming off the left, but with a midfield 3 behind him so he doesn't end up playing as a full back.
Stephens hasn't played in a midfield two since his Championship days 4 years ago. He just can't do it at this level with the energy required, but still has something to offer as he's clearly good with the ball.

Re: Tactics / strategy
The big question for me is -if Cornet is fit for the bench why did he not start. This was one of Dyche's most significant games in his 10 year tenure. If Cornet was flagging, then take him off, but for Gods sake lets be on the front foot to start. A blind man will tell you JBG is going to create zilch, so start Cornet and play a serious striker alogside Wood-giving Leeds something to worry about

Re: Tactics / strategy
The whole team looks jaded,
Actually feel better with Hennessy in goal
Lowton was taken off for roberts when we was chasing a game recently meaning he’s obv not as attacking as roberts
Tarks is off probs doesn’t care what happens
Mee has done his service for the club
Taylor had two worldie games and thought **** that every week
Gudmunson/Lennon never been good enough for prem
Cork/stephens no comment
Westwood/brownhill ‘work hard’
McNeil utd are not stupid his footwork got him so far work rate and fitness got him released
Jay rod /Barnes playing out their careers
Wood stealing his wage
Vydra can’t get any game time
Cornett thinking what have I done I’ll just try improve my stock and move on
Peiters/bardsley/ long wrong end of the spectrum signed all these players for the under 23’s nothing seems to be happening
I’m not dyche nor am I in a position to change anything just an opinion utc

Apparently didn’t want to risk him picking up a further injury after time out. Which ordinarily I’d understand only he’s going AFCON anyway.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:39 pmThe big question for me is -if Cornet is fit for the bench why did he not start. If we’re to stand a chance of staying up he needs to play every second he’s available.

Re: Tactics / strategy
4-4-2
Tarks and Mee to hit it as high and as long as possible, Wood to stand offside constantly, Westwood if he receives the ball to just blind hit it into an "area" (usually the side of the pitch where no one is standing or running into).
Just repeat for 90 mins. When the opposition score, keep on doing the same just hit it even higher and longer.
Burnleys formation & Tactics since 2016
(nearly forgot Coach all the attacking talent and creative out of McNeil)

He comes for crosses, kicking is good, willing to play it short, that save against utd when everyone thought he was offside but he wasn’t, I’ve got a season ticket and I’ve seen some of popes kicks, I’m not being funny but if that was your 9-5 job you should not still be kicking like that

I thought similar. Wood was actually winning those flick ons today and when Cornet was playing up top with him we created a couple of chances, but then he hooks Wood when he actually doing well and replaces him with jay. Was a very strange decision.Row Z wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 7:24 pmThe thing that I am confused with is Wood's replacement, despite us going long to chase the game.

F...ing overreactions, have you not watched the last 18 month's of clueless, gutless, pathetic football played by an ageing squad stealing a wage, open your f...ing eyes, you say you love watching Burnley, you can't seriously tell us you love watching this crap of winning just 7 games in 12 month's, 2 at home and unusually 5 away.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 2:38 amSome seriously pathetic overreactions on here!....We're in a struggle for Prem survival, no doubt about it.

Over the past one and a half season's we've won just 11 game's in total and Dyche has now lost more game's than he's won at his time with Burnley, don't come back to me with go and watch another team because I've watched us in all four divisions over the past almost 50 season's, I've seen us play some awful football back in the 80s and 90s at some terrible grounds, I've earned my right to an opinion
