The Team and Gate v Huddersfield

Post by Aclaret » Mon Jan 03, 2022 7:41 pm

Do we play our best team and hope we can perhaps get a much needed win and gain a little confidence ? Or play 1 or 2 youngsters.
Got a feeling it could be a very low gate going off the apathy on here.

I know this wasn’t one of your options, but I’d send the bench warmers and the kids out. The first team have more pressing issues.

Gate will be less than 8k

I was trying to work out what the team could be while on the Leeds trip but I reckon it could be (not sure of the wide midfield players)

Pope
Bardsley Collins Long Pieters
X Brownhill Stephens X
Rodriguez Vydra

I've not included Roberts, not sure where he is in terms of recovery.

Think 8k is very optimistic.

Read on Lancs live C***P that Vydra has a groin/hernia situation that they are being careful with but will need an op

Must have had it for 2 years, as only does 10 minutes a week normally. A very strange situation. When he comes on something usually happens because he moves and creates space. Shame he can't score more.

Hennessey
Roberts Collibs Long Pieters
Lennon Stephens Brownhill JBG
Vydra Jay

6.5k, partly due to kick off time, our dire form and ticket price/increase on the day.

Play the strongest team we can (given the lack of matches during December) and go for a much needed win

In terms of the line up Collins for Tarkowski is the obvious change plus game time for Roberts if he is fit

I am not going. Can't remember when I last missed a home game and only missed a handful since 1960, all due to illness. Not worth risking getting covid for a game its best if we lose.

Equally you could see quite a few turn up knowing that we need a form reset, we failed at Leeds; we need to feel victory in our noses again for the battles ahead and for that reason alone, a victory against Huddersfield could be far more important than staying in the cup.

If we were guaranteed the win, I’d say send the first team out to gain some confidence….. 🤔 but I think if the game ended in defeat it would be put down to tiredness…. And heap even more pressure on them and the manager.

That’s why I am advocating getting some game time for the lesser used players.

Hennessey
Lowton Collins Mee Pieters
Lennon Stephens Brownhill McNeil
Wood Rodriguez

Gate between 5-6K.

Just looked at the Championship table and very surprised to see just how well Huddersfield are doing this season. Won't be an easy test so I'd go with a line up relatively "strong". Has the hallmarks of a game we could easily slip up in.

I fully understand the sentiment, regarding focus and fitness and normally I would agree. However, with confidence shot we need to find a spark, admittedly it does not always work out that way as we found to our cost when dropping into Division 3 when I was a youngster, but for me the Cup is least of the issue… the ground needs to remember what winning feels like.

I imagine Pope & Brownhill will be in if fit, Stephens is a shoe in, Bardsley & Pieters full backs, perhaps Collins & Long .....or even Tarks & Mee to get the Leeds game out of their system ?..Wood & Rodriguez up front, any youngsters that can be played out wide ? Not sure.
If I was playing guess the gate, 6,670

If Huddersfield bring 2 thousand it may keep the gate respectable. Good chance for the likes of Collins, Stephens and Jay Rod to get some game time.

The team should be the one which Dyche sees as his team going forward. Up to the Utd game they’d had nearly three weeks off so don’t need a rest. They need games together more than ever and and need to find something/a performance. Personally I’d try a new formation but with the first choice players.

Pope
Collins Mee Taylor
Roberts. Stephens Jbg
Westwood. Brownhill
McNeil
Wood

I know that won’t be the team but I’m ready for something drastic

It's almost like we've had our memories erased from previous cup games.

I think we know exactly how this will pan out.

Hennessey
Bardsley
Collins
Long
Pieters
Lennon
Stephens
Cork
Gudmundsson
Barnes
Jay Rod

I'll guess at 7500 total with 2500 Town fans

That is spot on - believe we have nursed him through it but will need surgery at some point. It’s been a long standing issue.

In the first half of 2022, we have to play 22 league games in 21 weekends. If that is such an effort that the players are too tired, then what's the point resting them for the cups? A team so unfit would go down anyway.

I’d like to see Gomez Mancini get a run out. Seemed a handful in pre season, has something about him, think he’ll step up to the big stage at some point.

Pope
Lowton, Collins, Mee, Taylor
Tucker, Brownhill, Stephens, Dodgeson
Lennon, Jay

I think we need our back four that we are going to use in the league moving forward. They need to get back to being a solid unit

Pope
Lowton Collins Tarkowski Taylor
Roberts Stephens Brownhill McNeil
Rodriguez Vydra

Or

Same back 5
Roberts Stephens Brownhill Lennon
McNeil
Rodriguez

The latter as I want to see Dwight in the 10 role as a major change from here to our system that is going to turn things around.

Roberts worth a go at RM if he is fit. Could change Lennon for one of the 23s, perhaps Dodgson or Gomez.

Team I would play would be something along the lines of

Pope
Lowton Collins Mee Pieters
Lennon Stephens Brownhill (if fit, JC if not) JBG
Jayrod Vydra (if fit, any other fit CF other than Wood if not)

Not a dig at Wood there just feel he needs a rest. Same with McNeil.

Would loved to have seen us use this game to experiment with a 3 CB formation, but with Roberts probably not back, Cornet away and Mcneil needing a rest this isn't the time for me.

As strong as possible line up for me. maybe a couple of changes to give some a go and also not reward the shambles that was Leeds. Tarks can sit this one out and give Collins another chance. Roberts can come in too, see what he can do.

...............Hennesey
Roberts - Collins- Mee - Taylor
JBG - Westy - Brownhill - McNeil
...........Vydra - Jay

Oh ffs ! 12.30 K.O for an FA Cup game ? Just ridiculous . While the fa cup does still contain that little something special , this is a terrible terrible time . Kills off loads of casual( and regular ) fans who might have popped on after a few beers Sat afternoon etc . Probs about 8k tops, result could be ANYTHING , I’d expect a decentish side with pace ( not Alan obviously )JR to bag a brace 2-1

We will play 4-4-2 which is an error at home to a lower division team I would love to see the following but it won’t happen

Pope ( he needs a game)
Collins Tarks Mee
Lowton Brownhill Westwood Stevens Taylor
Wood ( he needs a goal ) J Rod

McNeil needs a rest
Lowton and Taylor can be more attacking due to 3 at the back
Cork looked tired at Leeds as does JGB

Strongest team may be a relative term going off today's press conference.

I agree with your first team (except Mee instead of Tarkowski). Our midfield situation is so dire at the moment that we MUST experiment with Roberts in the right midfield position in front of Bardsley or Lowton.

Struggling as normal to pick a midfield two. Makes it a strange decision to let Phillips go to Morecambe on loan. Why did we never give him a game or two. If he isn’t good enough why did we give him a contract?
