For Newcastle this is a great bit of business, especially with Wilson out for a while.
He will do well with the opportunities they provide.

I’d be more concerned if they came in for any of our midfield aces. Westy, Corky, Brownhilly and Stephensy are irreplaceable.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Personally, Wood might get you 10 a season but his ability to offer nothing else in games might cost you scoring 20. This season he's been gash. Think we'll look back in a season or two and feel we had there pants down.
Trippier swinging balls into him is a worry though.

His agent must have touted that there was a release clause, and Wood wanted out otherwise how would NUFC know the figure?

Difficult to find words for it other than we were powerless to block it. The need for one striker is now absolutely two this month. Do the club spend their way out of this or not?

Excellent.
He can lead the PL in offsides and missed chances there.

I was wondering this. Do clubs have to disclose ot publish this info? Or is it purely agents pushing their playersPommieclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:07 pmHis agent must have touted that there was a release clause, and Wood wanted out otherwise how would NUFC know the figure?

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Why all the negativity? He’s 30, scored 3 all year, barely looks to be putting it all in. We’ve got £20m and 3 weeks to sign a replacement.
Would you rather Newcastle have Wood up front or A N Other striker from abroad for £20m? Let’s have it right, he’s average at best.
This is how we have to operate. Sell and replace and refresh.
Could be the catalyst to our season and compound the start Newcastle have made.
Keep the faith!!

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
My vision of the rebuilding of the frontline didn't factor in the only quality striker leaving.
Mr Pace, the summer window was decent but you need to surpass that massively this month to keep our club in the top flight, over to you.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
If this is true then all we can hope for is that
Vydra, Jayrod and Barnes (when he's back) can step up to the mark.
And that we can use the money to bring in someone who turns out
to be better than Wood alongside another midfielder.
Bit of a long shot one has to feel but you never know.
No doubt if he does go to Newcastle then knowing our luck
he'll score the winner against us when we play Newcastle on the
last day of the season. And that will relegate us.
Alternatively we'll beat Newcastle and stay up whilst they go down.
Now that would be something else.

Forgot to add.
I hope his leaving has the same effect that Austin leaving did.
We were overly reliant on Austin for goals and were actually better without him.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Im actually really happy about this as I am hoping it helps us go away from the long boot up top.
He was having his worst season ever for us so £20m wisely invested is a cracking deal really. Probably fell out with Dyche also looked like he'd stop trying.
We must sign a pacy forward though either on loan or permanent, hopefully Alan has a masterplan there.
Sell tarks and Mee and get another ball playing centre half in, promote Collins.
If we have a Harry Redknapp January we could yet escape the doldrums.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Awful news. Losing him bad enough, losing him to rival is tragic.
Scored double figures regularly, finished last season very well 9/15 or something and is our best current striker (cornet not a striker). He leads our line and as seen when he came off v Leeds and Huddersfield we got even worse without him on the field. He splits opinion but for me this is really bad news and anyone who thinks the likes of Dykes or Moore could replace him will be sadly disappointed.

He’s been rubbish this season. Use the money to sign an attacking midfielder, play a modern formation with 1 striker, so Jay or Vydra, until Cornet comes back.
No need to replace Wood like for like.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
It’s bad news.
We’ve lost our main striker. We have nobody who will get us ten goals between now and the season end. We won’t sign anyone good enough who will get us ten goals between now and the end of the season. Our style of play will now need to change to accommodate the absence of Wood and as much as people would like to see us be a little more pleasing on the eye, we are to far down the road for that.

I posted when ALK took over, that our once-great club was well and truly ***ked.
Absolutely NOTHING, Cornet included, has made me change my mind.
If anyone thinks they're going to bring in 3,4 or 5 players in Jan to slot straight into the first XI, then dream on.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
A little disappointing in that he's going to a relegation rival and he has been our top scorer/forward for a while BUT...and there is a but, he's 30 years old, unlikely to sign a new deal, and when he isn't scoring goals he doesn't offer the team anything else. I am not that concerned unless he isn't replaced - this squad needs a massive shake up, an injection of pace and fresh legs and ideas. It could be just the move we and Dyche need to set the wheels in motion for an overhaul, and possibly change of formation/style. We shall see.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
The sad thing is so are you. Name me one player (other than Trippier and Ings ) who has gone on to better things/improve after Burnley?
Been there before in selling strikers in their ‘prime’ for mega money in their own way … Conroy, Andy Gray, Gareth Taylor, Akinbiyi, Blake, Austin, Vokes, Andre Gray (and I’m sure older posters can add some more)
The club moves on and generally does the better out of the two parties.
Liven up and keep the faith!

Let's hope Howe doesn't really stick the boot in and offload Dwight Gayle to us
Dyche and Pace should have been aware of this for several days so let's see what/who they have in place going forwards.
Wood could have played the next 10 games for us without scoring because we are simply not creating anything.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
He's been garbage this season and looked very disinterested or lost what bit of pace he had. He has never had a good 1st touch like Andre Gray. What are we loosing in my opinion nothing as he's averaged 3 out of ten this s season and that's a high score to be fair. I'd say bloody giid business as he will be worse than Andy Carroll was on his return visit

Richest team in the world panic buying a 30 year old striker who has scored 3 goals all season.
