Exactly this, plenty of affordable young talent out there which is 100% where we should be looking to re-invest

If Dyche spits his dummy out and walks that would be an added bonus, BOGOF!

At least it should force Dyche to try something different. McNeil in a free role behind Jay Rod in the short term?

Depends on how the deal is structured.Wembley09 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:35 pmIf that's true, surely he could have pushed Newcastle for £30 million at least. Surprised at only £20 million, even with his poor form this season.
Only £5 million more than what we spent.
Not to mention Newcastle, I'm sure they are not too tight with what they are willing to throw around at the moment.
£20 M in cash is an offer you can't refuse, especially given the current circumstances.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Ten minutes ago it was fact that he is going cause his release clause was met, also that the figure is £20 million.
Now it's a straight sale sanctioned by the club.
I think we need to wait to find out the true story.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
To all those posting that Chris Wood is vital to the way that Burnley play, holding up the ball, creating chances, scoring goals. Take a look at his stats for this season. 3 goals scored and ZERO assists. So much for being a foil for Cornet.

I think this transfer is more about who and how the club is going to be run rather than how it has been run in the past.

Perhaps only one that just lost at home to Cambridge United. Even with Trippier in the teamecc wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:34 pmSurprised as didn't know what to read into the "news" about his clause.
We MUST have someone lined up.
I like Chris but he hasn't looked great this season (not exactly alone there). TBH £20m for a player of his age who may well be past his best is not bad going (I'm dreading him proving me wrong if Tripps gets his crosses in). Not good selling him to them but then which other PL team would have paid that for him?

He’s played as though he was injured all season. There is every possibility he will fail the medical.

If Pace has sanctioned this and his hand wasn't forced he better have a replacement lined up or he just threw in the towel for the Premier League.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Wood has been crap this season. All very well asking who will score the goals but he certainly wasn't. Been great for us the past few seasons but he's missed far too many easy chances this time round and is as responsible for us being where we are as anyone else.
As long as we replace him well, I'm not too bothered by him going. Top guy and he's getting a huge payday so fair play to him.

I guess it boils down to players such as Trippier and Wood having a choice between playing for Eddie Howe or playing for Shawn Dyche and it looks like Eddie Howe is the main man

Can anyone link to the fact this was not a release clause as every single story I have read about this, including ones over the past couple of days have referenced it....IF it turns out to be incorrect and Pace sanctioned this then there be a blooming good explanation.....

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
If this is true then it is a master stroke, Wood is spent, as long there is a strategy to make us happy in the future then well done by me
Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
This was my view. Considering we have so many out of contract shortly we obviously aren't afraid of letting contracts run down, especially for key players. This must have been done with Dyche's approval, either with incomings lined up, or the fact Dyche doesn't want unhappy players at the club.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:33 pmIn the space of eating my dinner I have become more positive. Terrible loss for us at both ends of the pitch. Just watch him go with the service he will get from Fraser, Tripper and St. Max. Can't blame him though, he's deserted a sinking ship and probably doubled his salary for the next three years or so even if he hardly kicks a ball for them next season.

I've just seen that it's a straight £20 million with add ons, including an extra million every time he is caught offside during the rest of the season. On the positive side my mate saw Crouchy driving up to Barnfield a couple of hours ago.

Medicals aren’t really to check for minor injuries, far more in depth, it’s more of a full MOT and scans etcminnieclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:42 pmHe’s played as though he was injured all season. There is every possibility he will fail the medical.

He could have played another 20 games at Burnley with the current level of service and scored 3 more goals. That was never going to keep us up.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:46 pmTerrible loss for us at both ends of the pitch. Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
This could be a masterstroke, let's get real Chris Wood has been great for us, but this season he's looked awful, and he's now past 30, only 18 months left on his contract, so as long as these funds are spent wisely on a replacement striker, and a quality CM, which everyone has been crying out for, then I genuinely don't see what all the fuss is about.
Most people wanted Wood dropping, so he can't be that much of a miss in that case.
Also as I posted on another thread, better for us to get this deal done now, and we can prepare for life after Wood, rather then him departing on deadline day and then we're scrambling to find a replacement.
Of course that all depends on who we bring in, and that's down to Dyche and Pace to work their magic.
Thanks for the memories Chris, but the club will move on without you.

Hoping Pace sanctioning the deal means we have incomings lined up. The other possibility we have been caught totally by surprise in this would be a huge worry.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
£20 mil is good business for a 30yr old. Chris Wood may be given a 2-3 yr contract, could double his wages. I can only see Chris Wood playing for Newcastle until the end of this season, then sat on the bench, cuddling up to Geoff Hendrick, laughing all the way to the bank. Mr Pace needs to support the team and further player investment within a very short space of time.
Over to Mr Pace. Actions speak louder than words.
Make it happen. UTC

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Wood is certainly going to have to score plenty for Newcastle as it was clear against Cambridge that their defence will be a shambles under Howe.

Re: Chris Wood having medical at Newcastle
Agree with the bottom half of your thread. My opinion is though when you say he misses easy chances. It can't be easy as a striker to get in any sort of rythm playing for us.quoonbeatz wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 7:43 pmWood has been crap this season. You get so few, regular chances that it must be quite difficult to wait so long for them to come along, then take them all knowing there may not be many more for a while.
In my opinion, and that's all it is, he's been a bit snatchy with his chances this season and the above could explain why.

Pace has sanctioned the deal now because he’s desperate for cash to complete the purchase of the club.

Please don't think I'm being super negative, but we are in a real mess, and it will be very tough to find 3 teams to finish above.
These owners are business men, not football people and they will be fully aware how much we'd lose should we drop and this may be part of the contingency plans..
