Lets hope that Dyche sanctioned this move and that Mr Pace hasn't gone behind his back otherwise we could be looking for another manager shortly!!!!
Release clause activated
If he wants to go he goes whatever SD and Pace want

Sky sports reporting its 25 million! Surely nobody can argue that it’s not good business

It's amazing that one single poster posts about a dodgy clause and that Pace actually sanctioned it and all hell breaks loose.....I have not, in one single article seen definitive proof Pace sanctioned this, every report states that it was Newcastle that triggered get out clause.....

Latest is that the clause is only valid in the summer, Newcastle have paid 25m, good business as long as we have a replacement lined up.

Really bad news. I didn't for one minute think there was anything in the rumours. Wood has been our life line and although he's not played particularly well this season I feel in part its down to McNeil's poor form. Dwight created a lot of goals and chances for CW. Let's hope we've got somebody lined up.

Maybe this move has been on for a while behind the scenes and that is why the lads look ****** off and are off there games?

Looks like Saudis aren't getting their high profile targets in easily, and are resorting to weakening the other relegation candidates.

Didn't do too bad for us, but can't see him pulling up trees up there. Probably a good deal for him.

Nothing Burnley can do about Wood transfer'
Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solhekol:
"We were telling you yesterday that Newcastle wanted to sign Chris Wood but Burnley didn't want to sell. They didn't want to sell one of their forwards to a relegation rival - it's the last thing they wanted to happen.
"One way the deal could happen is if there was a release clause in the contract. Newcastle have now met the release clause. It doesn't make much sense to sell Wood to Newcastle from a Burnley perspective, but there was nothing they could do about it.
"The reason Newcastle are so desperate to sign a striker is because Callum Wilson is out injured, Dwight Gayle is out as well, and they've got a crucial game against Watford at the weekend.
"At least Burnley have some time and some money to find a replacement. At least this is not on the final day of the window."

Absolutely fine with this.

Hes been a great buy overall but he's 30, presumably on big money and can't buy a goal right now. When he's not scoring, he offers very little and really contributes to making us so one dimensional.

This gives us a brilliant opportunity to freshen things up and evolve our play. Pressure is on to replace him and not with a like for like, let's hope Pace and Co have something up their sleeves.

I guess it boils down to players such as Trippier and Wood having a choice between playing for Eddie Howe or playing for Shawn Dyche and it looks like Eddie Howe is the main man
If you could spell our manager's name correctly I might take you seriously, but as you can't I won't.

I'll give Eddie a year tops at Newcastle, but equally that goes for many of their new signings, hardly investing in youth are they, Trippier 31, Wood 30.

Assuming they do stay up, and then begin the real revolution in the summer, Tripps and Woody will be experiencing plenty of time on the bench at best, still they've gone for the challenge haven't they, nothing to do with their pay packets, aye! right, it's got bells on.

This may make the new owners more determined. Just a possibilty but £25m buys Phillips and Origi, allowing Tarks to go also to a desperate club for £5-£7m. Could mean Collins/Phillips and a wake up call for Mee. The Tarks money gets us Jason Knight or similar

If Wood goes then I wish him all the best (although not to our detriment, which it probably will be)

There’s no sentiment in football and he’s heading towards an excellent pay day. He’s always given his best for the club and although he’s not been at the races this year the effort hasn’t been lacking

Hope a few of them are fuming with their colleague leaving for a relegation rival after not trying a leg and squandering the multiple chances he’s been provided with.

Feels more like a potential catalyst to our season rather than the end of to me. Something needed to change and think we’ve been provided with just that opportunity.

This is just Charlie Austin mk2. We play better without him, and we will be fine.
It’s not. We got better results without Charlie than with him but that definitely has never applied to Wood.

Agree with the bottom half of your thread. My opinion is though when you say he misses easy chances. It can't be easy as a striker to get in any sort of rythm playing for us.

You get so few, regular chances that it must be quite difficult to wait so long for them to come along, then take them all knowing there may not be many more for a while.

In my opinion, and that's all it is, he's been a bit snatchy with his chances this season and the above could explain why.
He didn't do too badly in previous years and we've created more good chances this season than we have in all but one of our PL years. (I think that was the stat)

He's looked way off it to me after the summer and hasn't really justified his place. This weakens us overall but if he wanted to go, there's no point in trying to keep him.

Maybe, however the one dimensional style of play with them both is similar, that and the fact you are not taking into consideration the 6 months or so Austin had under Dyche, to the 4 or 5 years Wood has had when talking about results.

Great bit of business.

Wood has been superb for us, but we need a change of direction. We need to freshen the squad up, and we desperately need to evolve our style of play.

This transfer allows us to do both, potentially.

I have complete trust in Pace to bring in a replacement or two.

I’m not in the know. I initially thought it was just wild speculation but it wasn’t going away. But it was only a text from someone at tea time today that just about confirmed it for me.

I’ll be hugely disappointed if he goes. I think he’s been terrific for us. His goals helped us into Europe in 2018 and his goals were a deciding factor in us staying up in 2019 & 2021.
He’s had a tough time this season but I was still confident he’d be back among the goals soon.

We will have to wait and see what we do if this deal goes through but he will certainly need replacing.

Not all of them.
Selling clubs have been known to demand full fee at time of sale, or a very large chunk of it.
In the case of Newcastle, I'd like to think we've asked for the lot in one go.

Wood has been absolutely garbage this season and looked a totally different player to the one we’ve seen turn out for us for the last five years. The fee, if £25m is correct, for a bloke who’s 31 this year, had 18 months on his contract and (most crucially) looks a fish out of water at this level these days - is a ridiculous sum.

The fly in the ointment though is that it’s Newcastle, and we have to finish above them to stay up. What I would say is, if this is Newcastle’s only ‘goal scoring’ signing - it’s not enough. Unfortunately, Jay, Barnes and Vydra (with Barnes and Vydra injured for however long) is not enough by a long stretch either. Nowhere close.

Time to see what Pace is made of here. We need a striker and a midfielder with that money bringing in immediately or we are down. Funny thing is, I already thought we were - but this news has changed my mind in an odd way. It’s this kind of big event occurring which will either galvanise the team, or destroy them from a psychological perspective. We’ve never needed Mee and Tarkowski to step up for this club more than this weekend onwards and prove the people (like me) wrong who think they wish they were following Wood up to the North East.

If 25m is true that has to be one of the highest fees for a 30+ ever.

Agreed, he obviously needs replacing, but his demeanour and body language have been very negative for weeks now. I can put up with a player sulking when being subbed off, if he’d been busting a gut/ pulling up trees, etc etc. But can anybody seriously say that of Wood of late? Certainly not me. He’s been great for us, but time for him and us to regroup and move on.

Funny thing is, I already thought we were - but this news has changed my mind in an odd way. It’s this kind of big event occurring which will either galvanise the team, or destroy them from a psychological perspective. We’ve never needed Mee and Tarkowski to step up for this club more than this weekend onwards and prove the people (like me) who think they wish they were following Wood up to the North East.
Said the make or break point to a friend earlier. Huge breaking point in the season. I kinda hope Leicester is off on Saturday just to buy us a bit of breathing space.

Well if we invest well in targets from abroad, it could be a positive in the long run, as we’ve got much better money for him than I thought we would.

Again agreed. No game now on Saturday is a bonus.

Doesn't matter, all transfers are paid in instalments.
Is that a rule or just part of the negotiations? Is it equal instalments over a fixed period?
