Yes it’s a good deal, to say you’re happy he’s gone is bizarre

Wish him well (although not to our detriment, which it probably will be)
Hes done well for us and cant blame him for wanting a nice pay day. Long time retired

Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
We played to his strengths and built the team around him and he still couldn't produce this season, might rediscover his form up there who knows, but for us his days were done and £25 million is an absolute steal we've robbed them blind.
Spend it wisely and we become a stronger squad, I thought we was going down but with this sale I'm more hopeful of survival due to the cash available. Spend it wisely and I think we're nailed on to stay up.
Well done Sean Dyche and Alan Pace

Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
A surprise since the news broke, personally wish him well, not overly concerned that he’s left us as I’m convinced there’s better strikers out there but Wood no matter what your view on him had been a good signing for us.
Over to Pace & Dyche now to see who comes in through the door.

Is £25m a record for us?
Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
I personally wish him well (just not this season) but that’s a blinding bit of business for us.
Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
Wonder if there is a clause in the contract saying he can’t play against us (or maybe bearing in mind his form so far that he has to play against us) ?

It's a shame Dyche can't go with him.
Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
No, Keane to Everton I'd say
Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
it's only a good deal if we can source and mor importantly sign replacement(s) that keep us in this division. Time will tell, reserving my judgement until May. In the meantime, enjoyed having Chris Wood do his best in a Burnley shirt these past few years, scored some memorable and important goals.

At the moment I'm undecided on all this. If we struggle to bring anyone in, then this transfer has almost relegated us.
He's scored 49 in 149 in the Premier League in a struggling team. Granted he's been on the wane over the last year and maybe his best years are behind him.
BUT
This is a now a massive two weeks for our club.
Bring in players of the ilk of Fofana and a number 9 and a number 10 and get Cornet back, then we suddenly look a different proposition.
Struggle to sign players, then it's going to be doom and gloom and pretty grim to watch for the rest of the season.
Over to you Dyche and Pace.

He won't get the same loyalty from them. He's just a temporary filler. They also won't be playing to his strengths like we have.bumba wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:09 amWe played to his strengths and built the team around him and he still couldn't produce this season, might rediscover his form up there who knows, but for us his days were done and £25 million is an absolute steal we've robbed them blind.

Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
Just cannot see why so many are ecstatic with him going. Granted we have cashed in, and got a very good fee but we line up v Leicester with the options of Rodriguez in attack (alongside the ageing Lennon), and if lucky we might see a 10 minute intro of Vydra who we hear has a hernia. I am also not sure if fans appreciate it will not be easy attracting players to us when they look at our league position, and our stats of one win in 25- not if other PL teams are bidding who look likely to stay in the PL. Mr Pace has a very challenging couple of weeks but we need reinforcements yesterday

Overall Chris done a good job for us and scored some important goals, however like all things in life there’s a natural expiration date and I think we have reached that as the form this season concludes. The timing and the sale are spot on absolutely no complaints on that front.

He was the best finisher we had despite being badly off form. He’ll knock them in for them with the service he will get. Might be a blessing in disguise for us like either we sold Austin. That didn’t seem like it at the time. We need to get replacements in for midfield and up front ASAP before more games and points are lost.

He's been a great signing for us and I don't agree with the vitriol aimed at him this season as all strikers miss chances and he will have scored goals eventually. That said - I can't wish him good luck at all.
Let's hope we get a good replacement then we can forget about him.

Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
Totally ambivalent about this sale. For all the fuss about his 10 goals a season the primary striker, in any side, in any division, should be scoring more and very few of them were special goals. He also missed more sitters than he scored. I do feel he’s missed Ash Barnes alongside him more than many would admit.

Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
Surely, based on his goal scoring record this season the clause would insist Chris Wood would line up against Burnley?
Thanks for your time as a claret, Chris Wood. Good luck with your games for new Zealand.

Yeah but that was in his first full season though? We've been up against it in the 3 and a half seasons after that.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:20 amWe haven’t always been a struggling team, I’m sure we qualified for Europe one season?

He’s been an excellent signing but he’s been poor this season. Won’t be wishing him luck at that shower of a club.

Interesting Athletic article for those who have access.
States several players disappointed in how the move happened with most finding out themselves through social media. Also that Wood has been open to a move for a year (perhaps explains his poor form this year).
Also suggests Dyche wants to bring in proven pros (shock) whereas Pace prefers younger investment types. But also that we weren’t prepared for this situation and agents are now frantically trying to find available strikers.

Even if we were to bring in the players we all know we have needed for some while, does anyone think SD would actually just chuck them all into the team immediately? Anyway, if we lose the 2 home games in the next week, it will be more or less curtains. To choose, as it appears we have, to sell our only centre forward that scores immediately before these next 2 home games to a relegation rival, will probably be discussed for decades as the time when our journey in the top flight was ended voluntarily, to enable Garlick and crew to get their money.

We didn’t ‘choose’ to sell, for the 17336267336276th time, as confirmed literally by our club, Newcastle activated a release clause - there was nothing we could do.summitclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:10 amEven if we were to bring in the players we all know we have needed for some while, does anyone think SD would actually just chuck them all into the team immediately? I thought Wood was bang average and this move offered a lifeline to us to improve the team overall. Imagine if ALK used that £25m to pay off their debt though

Re: Chris Wood move confirmed
I have mixed feelings towards Chris Wood. I definitely don’t wish him well at Newcastle. I have felt for sometime he’s not played anywhere near his best this season for us. I don’t think he’s shown any loyalty to our club, although maybe this is the modern footballer, who only have there interest’s in mind.
Has there been any comments from Wood towards thanking our club and fans. As yet, I’ve only seen his comments towards the incredible supporters at Newcastle. Maybe that will come later down the line. UTC
