Comfort Zone

Post by joey13 » Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:25 am

So Wood Said he was in his comfort zone at Burnley and ‘you don’t achieve anything in your comfort zone’

How many others are in their comfort zone (lacking effort)
And how much of this is down to the manager, not a good look .

I agree. Looks bad. Also look bad on himself from one angle that his comfort zone is not really scoring the chances he gets

Boden not happy with Wood for not even acknowledging Burnley, not even a public thanks to the fans/staff here?

160 games and we can't even get any recognition of good memories created, just all about how he can't wait to play for Newcastle

What a load of horse shite. The guys not been in his comfort zone for 9 months now. Also, is it a good thing to feel uncomfortable at your new club!?

Did anyone really take to him? Our best ever PL goalscorer but I think most will remember the likes of Vokes, Ings, Barnes, Gray far more than Wood.

His clumsy link up play, heavy first touch and missing gilt edged chances was uncomfortable to watch this season.

A strange thing to say, suggesting he knew he wasn't giving 100+% to the Burnley cause

But also maybe an insight into the squad competition at BFC where many players are guaranteed a start no matter what form they are showing

How many others are in that same "comfort zone" hence our poor displays this season

Surely if a player feel like he is in a "comfort zone" and that affects his game, then that's because his name is on the team sheet every game no matter what, so we do have some take aways from that comment alone.

No, fans never truly liked him like others. He gets constant groans and never had a song after 50 goals. I think that’s an obvious sign of someone who is shite other than scoring goals.
That’s what gives me hope we can replace him - someone who can score a few and bring the wingers and midfielders to get more.

Barnes is a better footballer for me, Barnes has scored double figures a few times too. I just think Barnes' game has dropped off with all the injuries lately and age.

Only one of them will go down as a legend at this football club and it won't be Chris Wood.

I'm not sure Wood is coming out of this particularly well tbh. He's jumped what appears to be a sinking ship at the first opportunity, faster than the proverbial poo off a spade. Yes, he's got to think of himself and his future and the money on offer will be incredible and most on here would have taken it too, BUT he has to know it's making a tough job for us even tougher because we're beset by injuries up front and we've suddenly to scurry around trying to find a replacement petty sharpish. Plus it seems he didn't say owt to his supposed team mates, hasn't even acknowledge the chance he was given at Burnley to prove himself at this level and now is basically saying he hasn't been giving it 100% this season because he's got too comfortable and lazy. I think I'd expect a bit more diplomacy tbf. I suppose on the plus side though, he did pay for the NZ Clarets to drink all day whilst watching Burnley on TV which was thoughtful.

Odd thing to say (if he did). It might also make Dyche think...there's a fine balance between being loyal and allowing players the opportunity to gather some form and confidence, and with blindly sticking with the same faces who aren't performing...by also giving someone else a chance (admittedly we haven't had many players available to challenge)

That's the problem when you don't refresh the squad. Most of our team know they're going to play every week no matter what.

Whilst I don't expect real loyalty, what I think we should expect is a bit of professionalism. Wood has shown little here.
If a sportsman at his level can't have the motivation to keep pushing himself to challenge themselves, then simply, I'd rather not have at our club.
We could all see his comfort zone this season, and frankly it wasn't good enough.
Complete lack of self awareness.

He knows realistically that he won't be at Newcastle at the end of next season if they survive, so he's just saying what the fans want to hear.

If they stay up they'll look to replace him straight away as they'll have money to spend.

Likewise, Howe will almost certainly be gone withing a couple of seasons, no matter how well they do.

I thought the lack of acknowledgement was poor and unusual. He may have fallen out with Dyche etc but what about the fans. IMO it’s all about the cash. We will move on to better. Been good the last few seasons but very poor this season. It’s been almost like playing with 10 men at times.

The usual twaddle any new signing comes out with TBH, let's cut out the flannel here, him and Trippier have gone to Newcastle purely for the money, which is fine and nobody can blame either for that, but let's not insult the average football fan with spouting this rubbish about challenges.

3 goals in 21 games this season, and he's been a shadow of his former self, so a good time to get rid and freshen up our stale squad.

Whilst Ash is clearly at the end of his career with us, with age and injuries now taking their toll, the return we have had on him both in terms of investment, goals and sheer effort I don't think can be questioned. I have been watching us since 1983 and Barnes is right up there for me. He will never eclipse the legend that was Super Glen :) but none the less I would call him a legend at least in the time I have been watching us. Some of my best recent memories have been provided by Barnes in his pomp. Cheers Ash

I agree with the above two comments. His best days are obviously now behind him but people forget how good he was for us and considering the money we paid and when we signed him he's been a fantastic servant to the club. Also epitomised everything that was good about us for a while, an absolute battler and monster on his day who was horrible to play against, but who was actually a better footballer than he got credit for- His hold up play was superb when at his best. Wood maybe our all time Prem goal scorer, but I've much fonder memories of Barnes.

Having looked at it, I’m thinking the “comfort zone” nonsense is him trying to excuse his 3 goals so far this season as a problem with Burnley and not him missing endless chances and having the worst season of his life.

Majority of the team are in this comfort zone as they know no matter how they play - they will still play the next game

Rankles after we allowed him to swan off playing for his nothing football nation in mickey mouse games all over the world, missing preseason and needed rest at the detriment to his form for ourselves for him to then write us off as a comfort zone.

Clearly his appetite for the fight has dropped as he approaches the end of his career and he's sought out a big payday, so to get £25m for him (the most expensive over 30 in PL history) is pretty good business. Hopefully he carries this attitude over to NUFC.

'legs, hearts, minds' - a motto splashed all over the walls of Barnfield

also 'maximum effort is the minimum requirement'

I've always been proud of these statements associated with Burnley...so what has happened at our club for these standards to be diluted and our international striker consider himself in a comfort zone! :?

Says as much about him as it does about us.

Our reluctance to shake things up a bit when it’s obvious players are just going thru the motions is concerning, but it’s nothing new.

I just hope we see a reaction from the rest of the squad and I would LOVE IT, LOVE IT if we beat them.

I posted before that I reckon he was tapped up weeks ago and in my opinion his dire performances were to help his new employer out. He will be well comfortable on the bench and next season when the Arab cash is splashed he'll be comfortable on loan or comfortable not in the squad.

I’ve no problem with Wood’s honesty. It should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched our recent performances.
The whole team and management are responsible for the creation of a comfort zone not one individual player.

People have been talking over the last few weeks about needing a pivotal moment - surely this is it

We appear to have got an excellent fee for an out of form striker who largely dictated the way we set-up and play. He's also revealed an uncomfortable truth that although most of us suspected - would never have been voiced from within the club

Wood's comments put others very much in the spotlight - if we see an immediate reaction then maybe there's hope of survival

This squad needs shaking to it's core, 3 new starting players + Roberts and Collins in would certainly do that.

Certainly doesn't sound like Wood was planning to raise his game anytime soon so I'm hoping this will prove to be excellent business for us.
I've always thought that great PL forwards create goal scoring chances for themselves and convert half chances into goals. I'm struggling to remember Wood ever doing that.
As mentioned on other posts, it's an exciting opportunity to improve the team and tactics and no reason to feel negative. I'm trusting Pace to surprise us.

Player moves to a new club makes a comment and it attracts the moths.

Give Wood a week or 2 and he claims like about 95% of new signings do that he has never felt fitter or training is amazing Then we can have something else to point the finger at

It is a daft thing for him to say, as good as saying that he's been coasting for the last few months. Not very professional.

No doubt get a goal on debut v Watford.

We've missed a Joey Barton type around the dressing room.. he would've been on Wood's back if he thought he was gliding along in a comfort zone

He is stupid-never leave anywhere on bad terms, and with this move no reason for any bad feeling. It looks like he has stuck up two fingers to the fans, manager and club. Says a lot about him
