Team vs Leicester - new thread

Post by Mala591 » Thu Jan 13, 2022 1:52 pm

We are in desperate trouble and a formation change is high risk but is the only way imo that we may upset Leicester

3-5-1-1

—————————Pope
———Collins——Tarks——Mee
Lowton Westwood Stevens McNeil Taylor
—————————Lennon
————————Rodriguez

Roberts not quite PL match ready yet
Stevens to be replaced by Brownhill after 60-70 minutes

We need, first and foremost, to avoid being overrun by Leicester's midfield, that's for sure.

I am always intrigued by suggestions for line-ups and this one hasn't changed my perception. Rodriguez doesn't appear to have anyone anywhere near him but I'm even more confused by what Lennon is supposed to do. The last time we played three at the back a very ordinary Everton side beat us 5-1. And what if Stevens(Stephens) was having a good game and Tarkowski/Mee was having a 'nightmare'?

Leicester won’t have a fit CB and some of there best players are at AFCON. Let’s get after them.

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Stephens, Westwood
Lennon, McNeil, Tucker
Jay

Cork should be nowhere near the team on recent showings. Roberts and Collins for Lowton and Tarkowski. On recent showing I’d have Lennon on the right over the continually ineffective JBG.

If I had alternatives I wouldn’t be picking Westwood or Tarkowski (we could play Long I suppose) as they have been awful and need a kick up the arse, in my opinion. I think injuries, AFCON and Wood leaving mean we simply MUST consider this formation change.

Newcastleclaret - When I have watched Tucker recently (albeit on the telebox) he seems to be not quite at as at it as he was. However been given a first team berth might just be the spark he needs. Like I said on the U23's thread, Costelloe has looked a goal threat coming in from wide.

From the U 23's straight into a struggling side to face a good team like Leicester. He must be some player. Almost as ludicrous as getting rid of your centre forward with no one to replace him. And the clock ticks on.

I like what I have seen in Costelloe I just like Tucker better to be honest. I like how he drives at the opposition with the ball. I think it’s something we have missed.

Surely this is completely fanciful till we know who is fit and who isn't?

And the idea of U23s starting..........

It’ll be the usual with 4-4-2 with Lennon just off Jay. Dyche is eternally predictable.

Lancaster - of course it’s fanciful. But come Saturday we may be in the ream of the ridiculous. Hope it doesn’t come to this but is the idea of using our reserve players when he have few other options, is it that fanciful.

I can't see a 3 at the back formation really. But with our lack of forward options I think it might work to have McNeil behind Jay. I'd also make a point about dropping Tarks. I would drop Mee too if I thought Long was good enough.

Pope
Lowton Collins Mee Taylor
Lennon Stevens Westwood Gudmunsson
McNeil
Rodriguez

Or maybe Brownhill in for either Westwood or Lennon

I'm hoping that we everyone back bar Barnes

If we've still a lot out, then we should be the ones calling this off and the Tuesday one as well

You gonna pick your team, or use this thread as well as all the other Wood threads to cry about something the club had no real control over?

Pope
Lowts. Collins. Mee. Taylor
JBG brownhill stephens westy McNeil
Rodriguez

Lennon to freshen things up when required. Not much option really with this side.
Stephen’s because I think he has showed a calmness since getting in the pitch these last couple of weeks. Not suggesting he’s the answer we are looking for regarding creativity but he holds the ball and passes well.
Collins because Tarks is off, hasn’t signed a contract and clearly wants out or he would have by now. Collins is the future, not Tarks. No problem with Tarks, good player, but he’s part of the past.

Why would anyone pick Bardsley🤯

If he goes 442 and Vydra is fit, he must start him and Jay.

I’d like to see Roberts but suspect it’s too soon after his return and I’d certainly be tempted to give Collins a game.

Dropping Tarks is crazy. Get off his back ffs. Playing Collins as well as Mee and Tarks is a no brainer. We have 1 fit striker

Pope

Collins Tarks Mee

Lowton Westwood Brownhill Taylor

Lennon Jay Dwight

No way Cork should start. He is knocked over way to easily. Brownhill's legs in cm are crucial.

The problem I see with this line up is just where is the chance creation going to come from? This will no doubt just result in long balls all game.

Vydra isn’t fit. We need him fit (as it stands) for the six pointers to come. Dyche has more idea of Roberts progress than you are I. Others call him for it but I’m happy to let him tell me when he’s ready, he sees him every day.

Pope

Roberts, Collins, Mee, Taylor
Lennon, Stephens, Brownhill, McNeil

Rodriguez, Vydra

Would be my pick. Just get the new lads bedded in for next season. But it’ll probably be…

Pope

Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor
JBG, Westwood, Cork, McNeil

Lennon, Rodriguez.

And in my formation.. we need a full back who can stand up for himself and fight - traditional full back roll. The left is weighted to protect Dwight and Taylor and cut down their defensive workloads and hopefully free them up a bit to play forwards. I think Brownhill given the 10 on the left roll coming in, might just show us the attacking side of Brownhill’s game more to than the flat midfield.

Which would be pointless. I have freed up Lowton and Charlie a bit because they can from time to time get to the bye-line. We just don't have a Defour. However, Westy is a good player

Any team that doesn’t have Tarkowski , Gudmundsson and Cork starting.
I’m happy to give McNeil another go as long as he stops showboating his 40 yard cross field passes and does something useful for once this season

I would go for:
Pope
Lowton Collins Mee Taylor
Lennon Brownhill Westwood JBG
McNeil
Jayrod

I expect it will likely be:

Pope
Lowton Tarks Mee Taylor
Lennon Brownhill Cork Westwood McNeil
Jayrod
