Australian Open Tennis 2022
Thought it worth starting a thread for the tennis fans amongst us.
Great 5 set win for Andy Murray. Didn’t watch but sounds like a great comeback especially after all his injuries.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Didn't watch it either, great win for Murray, but he's got little chance of going deep in this tournament if he keeps getting embroiled in 5 setters lasting 4 hours.
Mixed couple of days for the Brits, wins for Evans and Watson, but Broady and Dart both out, to add to Norrie yesterday.
Raducana displaying her US Open form here, 5-0 up with a double break against Sloane Stephens.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
This Radocano woman looks like a good un. She might win a tournament one day.
Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
It's obviously better than going out, but a five setter so early is the last thing Murray needed.
Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Murray is really rubbish aint he?
He's a pretty forgettable player being only (at best) the 4th best of his era but he's genuinely terrible now. 6 years younger than Federer, Murray should knock it on the head.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Tell me you know nothing about tennis without telling me you know nothing about tennis.
In the era of the three greatest ever tennis players Murray managed to reach 11 slam finals. That's already impressive. But what's almost as impressive is that he managed to reach 21 semi finals. To understand how far ahead of everyone except those three greatest of all time that's only 2 semis behind Sampras, who I think we will all agree is also one of the greatest players of all time.
So by all means disrespect Murray's talent all you like but to the rest of us who actually know the sport your opinions present as idiocy.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Sampras, of course, went on to many more finals, but then he wasn't competing against the top 3 all time greats for his whole career.
Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Nobody cares about the 4th best. He's not mentioned with the 3 greats (Nadal, Fed, Novak), notice how it isn't the 4 greats, it's the 3.PeterWilton wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 12:29 pmTell me you know nothing about tennis without telling me you know nothing about tennis.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Of which Murray is one of 4 in his. No one denies the other three are greater, but anyone who thinks Murray wasn't among them is a fool. I mean he was world number one for 41 weeks in the era of fed/nadal/novak. Only 13 male players have more weeks at #1, but he did that DURING the era of Fed/nadal/novak. How do you do that if you're not also one of the greats of the game?
He's earned more respect than you're giving him.
Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
The way I see it, it's the English trying to claim a Scot as one of their own by waving the British flag and overhyping Murray's ability.PeterWilton wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 12:55 pmOf which Murray is one of 4 in his. Nah. What it really is is that you're just a clown. Making yourself look stupid for the purpose of getting attention is pretty much the definition of a clown.
I've offered you facts and stats to explain why your opinion is trash and you still cling to the trash. You do you I suppose.

All in an era of those three.
He's not had the longevity of Fed or Nadal. Neither did he have the explosive improvement Novac had.
But in the earlier days of the so called Gang of Four, Andy deserved that recognition.

Probably the first time I completely agree with the poster sometimes known as Peter. (The bit about Murray not the customary insults).

3 Grand Slam titles as well, 2 Wimbledons and a US Open, plus 2 Olympic golds, and also the small matter of playing a huge role in a Davis Cup triumph. not a bad career is it.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jan 18, 2022 1:07 pmThink he won nearly 50 ATP titles too.

It's not ideal is it, and TBH if Andy makes the 2nd week he'll probably be content with that, I don't imagine he expects to get to the latter stages let alone win the thing.

Yep, all that too.
He quite clearly the greatest player GB has ever produced and, for a few years at least, capable of beating anyone.
He was genuinely world class.

Murray & Heather Watson out, but Dan Evans continues to fly the British flag after his opponent withdrew due to injury.
Raducanu just levelled up in her match, but she's suffering her own injury woes.

Raducanu a flash in the pan, she looks silly now with her Nike advert.

Nothing silly about her! Lost despite a blistered right hand. No-one can play decent tennis with that issue.
Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
She’s 19 years old you muppet. And just played with a blistered hand. Jealousy isn’t a nice trait.

She got an ounce of success and dropped her coach, then started making smug adverts aimed at ''critics''. She would've been better served focusing on her tennis clearly

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
Thankfully you bring sense to her defeat, and she's 19 for goodness sake, with already a slam in the bank, in the circumstances she did well to even take it to a deciding set, and when she had to retire at Wimbledon last year she responded by romping to the US Open title, so her character isn't in question for me, which in tennis is a huge asset.Im_not_Robbie_Blake wrote: ↑Thu Jan 20, 2022 11:07 amNothing silly about her! I'll wager she'll win more slams in the coming years, and it was just unfortunate she was severely hampered today, but people need to remember she's still inexperienced on the tour never mind at the major tournaments.

Re: Australian Open Tennis 2022
While I’m no Murray fan , he’s had a wonderful career and if not for the incredible triumvirate of Fed/Nad/Djok would have dominated the sport . Though why on earth is he persisting ? He’s nearly 35 and that’s ancient in Tennis . The body isn’t doing quite what the mind wants. I’m presuming he’s hoping to limp along to Wimbledon and I hope gracefully retire .

Are you always like this, you look for negatives constantly.
You make yourself look daft, because sometimes you do make some good points on other subjects.
