Should we want the Arsenal match off?

Post by northeastclaret » Wed Jan 19, 2022 11:41 am

One match and then a two week break, it must make sense to just have one long break now and start a new season with the United match in February?

No. Get it played, whatever. We don't expect anything from the Emirates - do it, get it over, regroup and charge for up the league

Could not agree more. Fixtures are congested enough and we need to get this defeat out of the way

They've got a few out at the AFCON, so Sunday is probably our best hope of a result.

Be interesting to see exactly how strong Arsenal go tonight in the SF.

Better for us if we get this one done, lose and it's not a surprise, but if we could nick anything that would be a huge boost.

It’s a free hit , we’d expect nowt away to an inform Arsenal so let’s get it cleared out and get our “ new” season started

Their SF game is tomorrow, which is why our game was moved to Sunday

If we can then we should play.

Still annoyed that this game was moved to the Sunday meaning unable to go on the day due to a christening and having to go to London for the day on Saturday. Apparently it would be a shame not to use 2 of the train tickets and have a day out, probably cost about the same as a season ticket as well.

Just get the bloody thing played.
At the very least, it'll be much-needed match-practice, even if we get battered. We might even get something.

We certainly don't need another postponement.

Gerron with it……..! (As we used to sing gerrinto’em!)

As others say, it’s a free hit then a break then hopefully all ready to go again!

Play it, at least SD could be forced to blood some of the understudies, he seems very reluctant to give anybody a chance.
The old reliables, are only reliable, when they are getting results, we've needed a change for a long time now. Bring it on.

AFCON finishes a couple of days before we play Man Utd, suppose it depends how far he gets in that.

So after his goal at Leeds, he could end up missing no Premier League games for us if we don't play Arsenal either. Hopefully comes back fully fit, relaxed and ready to go.

We shouldn’t want any game called off unless it’s absolutely necessary and any team found postponing games for anything but this reason should be rightly punished

Get it played with anyone who is available - use it as a pre season friendly, get up to speed game.

Whatever a free hit is I don't really think they are relevant to a side bottom of the league.

I noted the comments from Arteta relating to the North London derby being called off "We didn't have the players necessary to put out a squad available to compete in a PL match, that is 100% guaranteed."

I also noted a comment from Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers during his press conference, in which he stated that not all Under 23 players are ready for a step up into a PL match.

Putting together these 2 statements it is easier to understand why we requested a postponement of Tuesday's fixture.

Get it played and get them beat! I can’t see a reason for this to be called off now. It sounds like we have players back in the building. I’m sure Arsenal’s previous issues would have disappeared as they’re playing Burnley not Spurs.

Tend to agree with most posters and to get it played.
Anything but a defeat will be a huge boost for starting the season
against United and another away game out of the way.
Blood a few youngsters if need be.
We're going to need as many fit players as possible.

Game needs to be played.
We need 13 fit players and a keeper.
Monday we only had 10 players fit.
We'll see.

Arteta will expect Arsenal to win this so he'll tell the PL it's game on

Yes, 2 yellows, so no chance of appealing etc.

Arsenal will be seriously lacking in midfield on Sunday. If we can keep it tight at the back, there will be opportunities to nick something.

It will probably be off then. All Arsenal need to do is get one player to catch covid and it will be off.
