Rip dad
Another claret gone. Like probably most of us on here our dads are responsible for our love of Burnley. My first season as a claret was the 75/76 season, last in the top division, dads interest wained,my love afair had just begun. The sale of Dobson was the turning point I believe, relegation didn’t help but as many others at that time he was done. He remained a claret, wore his Burnley cap so much he wore two out over the years. We talked Burnley as always,he waxed lyrical about jimmy mac, Ralph Coates etc ..I knew all the players of his era even though I never saw them play.He was at Maine road,he was at the semi final at hillsborough,he hated Malcolm Mac Donald , his era was magical, but mines not been too bad this last decade or so,I tried to get him on the turf again but alas no.God bless dad, thanks for making me a claret,I bet mums nagging you already up there UTC

Re: Rip dad
Just like my dad. He used to tell me about the likes of Reg Attwell, Alan Brown & Billy Elliott from before my time.
It is because of my dad that I’m a claret although and he kept going until he couldn’t make it in his final year.
You’re in my thoughts Cornwall.

Re: Rip dad
Sorry for your loss Cornwall, I lost my Dad 30 years since in February and still miss him so much, he took me on my first Burnley game, the Anglo Scottish cup against Celtic and I haven’t stopped supporting them since. It seems he’s left you with some good memories for you to look back on!

Keep those memories alive. Nobody can take them away. This story just runs and runs. My dad took me to my first game in 1958 and me and my brothers took him to his last one in 1973. RIP to your dad.

Indeed Cornwallclaret, we have our dad's to thank for our love of BFC, my dad is still around approaching 90 years old, he hasn't been on the Turf for 20 years or so but everytime I see him he talks about the football.
Sympathies to you and your family for the loss of your dad. May he RIP

Dads have a lot to answer for, like “Why couldn’t we be born in Barcelona”
But we weren’t and bless them, R.I.P.

Treasure those memories. I never went to a match with my father because he wasn’t into sports. I think he missed out. He loved the town and I think “You would of loved this atmosphere, Dad!” I’m sure we would have shared many happy conversations, but it never happened.
Really sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.
Tomorrow is the 2nd anniversary of the death of my dad.
He wasn't a football fan, I had to find my own way, but I've plenty of great memories and life lessons from him.

Re: Rip dad
I lost my Dad in December, and like many on here have him to thank for introducing me to the Clarets. I was born when we were the team of the 70's, and my Dad insisted I be called Leighton after Taffy, my mum compromised and Leighton is my middle name. My Dad told me he was in tears at Hillsborough in 74. He didn't go on much in the last few years but we were there all through the 80's and we can both be seen on the video of the Orient game in the CFS. Wonderful, happy memories that I'll always cherish and am so grateful to have. Really sorry for your loss CC, RIP and God bless your Dad. And thanks for sharing this with us.
Re: Rip dad
So sorry to hear your really sad news. Thoughts and prayers with you and yours.
Re: Rip dad
Beautiful description of your dad very touching and so true of so many of our dads. It's lovely when you have such happy memories of your dad as I do, I remember when my dad (RIP) brought me on the Turf for the first time I loved my dad but after that game as I held his hand walking away from the Turf my love and admiration for him went up a notch.
RIP your dad Cornwall, it gets easier.

So sorry to hear of your sad news cc - keep those precious memories close and safe
mate. Nobody can take them away from you.
I know what you're going through as it's very close to 12 months since my dad passed away
at 93. Remember him taking me on in 1958 with my rattle, stool and bloody great big
rosette pinned to my homemade bobcap. Brilliant, precious times I shall cherish forever.

Re: Rip dad
I am very sorry for your loss. A top post to remember your dad by. Like so many they all start the journey and get you addicted to BFC. Nearly 30 years since he first took me on. We both went away for a few years, me through work and my dad fell out with money crippling the game. He comes on again now, and really enjoys it again. I'll miss him a lot when he can't come anymore. I have continued the trend, both my lads have season tickets. Sending you my best wishes and hope you and your family are ok. UTC.

Re: Rip dad
Sorry for your loss mate, that was my first season as a claret as well. And like yourself dad was the reason I followed the clarets. He died in 2015 and I miss him every day. He’ll always there though, and the thought of that will keep you strong when you’re feeling down.

Re: Rip dad
So very sorry for your loss Cornwall, I laid my Dad to rest last March having not seen him for over 12 months due to him having to shield and following the covid guidelines. I have struggled over the last few months after all the stories of parties etc coming out and thinking how I would of done things differently if I had know then what I know now. I live in Grampound Road village so if you feel the need please get in touch and maybe we could draw strength from each other. Stay strong.

Re: Rip dad
I have to give a mention to my Dad (Reg) passed away Tuesday night 25th. He was a the main reason I started going to Burnley in 1971. He wouldn't let me go to old trafford because my oldest brother had his ribs broken in a crush at a game there, instead he and my step mum would drive us to Burnley and to nearly all away games, we went in to see the game and they went shopping in which ever town we were at. RIP Dad love you.
