Staying up
Which game do we secure our safety this season?
Everyone around us is inconsistent. If we secure those 2/3 signings before the deadline I can see a Dyche style run of games where we stay up comfortably. It’s not over yet.

Re: Staying up
Massive IF, as it’s unlikely, but a win tomorrow and it would be 2 points behind 17th with 4 games in hand

Re: Staying up
And a loss tomorrow against Arsenal would still leave us with
2 games in hand against Watford, 3 against Newcastle and 4 against Norwich.
Given who we've got to play in the next 4 or 5 games that makes the game
against Watford an absolute 100% must win.
It's daunting but not impossible.
Still a dog fight even if we manage to beat them.

Someone is always last, even at elite level though. I fear no amount of sweat, blood or tears will suffice this season, it's the basics we are lacking. Re: Staying up
I feel we need a win tomorrow to have any hope of convincing anyone to sign for us next week. A loss tomorrow and a performance like against Leeds could be bigger then just 3 points gone. We need to be on it, and I don’t think we will. The players don’t have it in them anymore and nor does Dyche. I really hope they prove me wrong.

Re: Staying up
Normally, a team with one win, bottom of the league, on Jan 22nd would be absolutely down and out
But this isn't normal
COVID means we've missed a huge chunk of games, and the vast majority of the squad have been here before
Its still a very tall order, but its not hopeless
If we can get players in as well, then who knows?

Re: Staying up
If we don't get a striker and a midfielder in before the end of January, we'll be relegated.
Simple as.
Get them signed up, and we've a fighting chance.

Re: Staying up
A poster on here said about 2 or 3 weeks ago he had "no doubt" we'd stay up. When I questioned that, he said again, "No doubt."
I can't believe anyone of sound mind and body can say there's "no doubt" we'll stay up.
Look at the record since this date last year.
Makes Cotterill's bad run look half-decent.
Laws was fired for far less.
Eddie & Jase resigned/left because they weren't perceived as good enough/ wanted away/ glad to see the back of them.
But Saint Sean of Kettering appears bullet proof.
I said when ALK took over we were well and truly shafted.
Nothing since has made me change my mind.
Anyone expecting 2 or 3 major signings in the next 10 days needs to have a stiff drink and go to bed, because it's not going to happen.
PS - For clarification, I wouldn't consider Andy Carroll a major signing.

Really! What do you actually mean by 'refusing'? You think that they're looking forward to taking a massive drop in their salaries if we get relegated?Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 9:50 pmThat’s beings disrespectful to the fat kid. Re: Staying up
Anyone half decent will be gone anyway. Cornet, McNeil and Taylor are not going to be playing football in the champ next season.
Re: Staying up
More chance of Sean Dyche playing 3511 and/or being able to make a tactical switch.
Start planning now for a season in the championship, and save the not so bright people the heartache and expectation.

Talk of staying up has a hollow ring about it at the moment.

Re: Staying up
Elizabeth, we have all known that this PL journey would come to an end sooner or later.
Perhaps this season, perhaps next.
We've had a wonderful run in "the best league in the world", if it's over we have to accept it and enjoy Championship football...
until we get promoted again

Re: Staying up
I would have no problem with Championship football Bill, I find the PL unhealthy.
If it is to be this season I hope we go down fighting not the stale way we have been playing in the last few games.
That would not be a good way to go down

Agreed, Norwich were dead and buried a short time ago. Sneak a couple of wins and the whole scenario changes .Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Sat Jan 22, 2022 10:06 pmNormally, a team with one win, bottom of the league, on Jan 22nd would be absolutely down and out

Re: Staying up
With our current squad we've got very little chance of staying up
unless Dyche can come up with something verging on miraculous
both in terms of formation and tactics alongside getting the majority of players
to regularly put in best performances over the rest of the season.
We lack some of the key basics required - pace and technique in particular - and there's
little or nothing Dyche or the players can do about that.
Cornet has those skills/abilities but he's about the only one.
McNeil suggested he also had some of those but just hasn't shown enough this season.
A couple of quality signings might give us a much better chance but
we'd need them to 'do a Cornet' in terms of a relatively immediate impact.
And it would be close to another miracle if we could actually persuade
and get these players to come up to sunny Burnley.
Yes we've still got 21 games to play, 12 of which are at home
but we would probably need to win at least half of those home games.
And our goal difference is better than those around us and who knows it may
come down to that but not unless we start getting those wins and 3 points.
We've performed a few miracles over the last 6 or so seasons
but it's getting more and more difficult especially with an ageing squad.
But In God we must trust.
Either that or Andy Carroll.

Re: Staying up
Early in the season we were starting games brightly and taking an early lead only to let it slip. In the few games we have played recently we have looked like relegation material in that our heart has gone. As supporters we need to get behind the team and try to encourage them to recover their lost confidence. The table is skewed at the moment because of the postponements. It only takes a small spark and we could go on a good run. A reasonable return of 1.5 or more points per game from our games in hand will put us in a much better position.
