It's a pity the Geordies were coal miners and not lumberjacks. "Selling Wood to Newcastle" would've been a bit of a gag -

Re: Bank of Dave.
Might need to be after 1st April for the new financial year possibly.
I dont mind Dave, he's a bit brash and not to everyone's taste but he's put his money where his mouth is and helped raise the profile of the town, and also put decent money towards sponsoring the CFS when not many people were putting much money into us.

Re: Bank of Dave.
The Banking hierarchy wouldn't allow him to join their elite club by announcing himself as a Bank so he had to use the title 'Bank ON Dave'.
He certainly upset the system by calling them out!

Re: Bank of Dave.
Spot on.
The fact he couldn't create a bank which was fair in the way it paid out great interest on savings and provided affordable loans to businesses shows how controlling and corrupt the current banking system is. The "big" banks don't want Dave creating this new banking model as it will deny them billions of pounds.

He’s got a contract with us to provide his home made meat & potato pie, he’s now in discussions with a local garage to convert his helicopter into a giant mixer to deal with the expected tonnage.
Re: Bank of Dave.
Yep I've got that on DVD
Oops my error, its a slightly different title of my DVD, my eyes aren't what they once were

There is an advert on FB asking for actors for 'Bank of Dave'. Is this the exciting news?
Maybe the club are contributing to the production costs.

Well thank goodness it is not easy to set up a new bank and that there are regulatory steps and capital adequacy rules.

Hollywood film made in Burnley. Lots of opportunities for extras, I'd imagine.
Re: Bank of Dave.
Sounds promising (good cast!) and the Channel 4 series i recall was quite interesting, but is there much of a story?
Local minibus salesman wants to take on big banks to allow local people and business access to funds in the credit crunch, set up a local loan company, got a channel 4 series, then largely sank into obscurity again. Now looks like his 'bank' just offers funding for his minibuses?
It's a bit thin isn't it?

Re: Bank of Dave.
Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman) would have been my choice to play Dave, but I suspect Rory Kinnear will master the local accent better!

Apparently he is a huge fan of British comedy so he might have managed to pick up various accents over the years. As you say though, very impressive cast.

We’ll done to him. You can’t knock someone for putting in the time and effort that he did to get this up and running. Brilliant that all profits go to charity. A good success story for Dave and of course Burnley.
Re: Bank of Dave.
fair enough like, but not sure how this would tie in with the club?
Unless netflix are paying a huge wad to have the cricket field stand re-branded as the 'fishwick' again for filming purposes?

Re: Bank of Dave.
I think ‘Bank on Dave’ were offering a fixed rate of 5% interest to investors (businesses paid 8% interest on their loans I think) when they were first formed 10 years ago. Anyone who made a significant investment will be quids in!

I looked to invest a sum a few years ago but think they had a cap set on the number of savers allowed.

Has he not seen Whistle Down the Wind? They don’t come bigger than that.

It’s the only film I know of that featured our next door neighbour and saw the cast stay at the Keirby prior to the premier at the Odeon.maccclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 8:29 pm“There’s never been a Hollywood film made in Burnley”

Our connection was much more tenuous: mum worked in the factory that printed the label on the bottle on the table in the scene in Towneley cafe…..
Although I guess that would qualify as the horses mouth on a transfer rumour thread.

Almost Burnly
The 1998 film 'Girls Night' with Julie Walters and Kris Kristofferson is filmed in Rawtenstall and Las Vegas.

The opening scene is a fly through the Rossendale valley....... also some footage of the Picture House in all its former glory.

10 minutes slot on BBC this morning, about 8:50. Dave Fishwick turned up in his old minibus to the premiere in Burnley yesterday. He brought the two BBC presenters a pie, Lancs hotpot and bene.
I'll enjoy watching on netflix.

The actor playing Dave Fishwick is a good foot taller and hopefully a lot less annoying.
Re: Bank of Dave.
I really like Dave Fishwick,he's very personable, bubbly, charitable and a Claret.
