Ash is still around Turf Moor on matchdays. Sat next to him on one of Capital Punishment cup games over 10 years ago. Someone will have a season ticket next to or with him. He’s probably on here himself!

Can't believe it's so long ago.
Not a bad effort though.

He’s not on here but he’s very much a Claret and travels with Accy Clarets to away games. I have reminded him it’s 35 years.claret wizard wrote: ↑Sun Feb 06, 2022 2:12 pmAsh is still around Turf Moor on matchdays. Sat next to him on one of Capital Punishment cup games over 10 years ago. Ash used to sit in the Jimmy Mc upper next to my mum and dad. Super nice bloke for those that have never met him. Moved into the Cricket Field a couple of seasons ago. Burnley through and through.

Re: fao hoskinsgoalatswansea
Brilliant! Thanks Tony. I thought I was in bother when I saw the thread title.
As a kid Ash was my favourite player, and I remember my dad used to do business with FH Brown who used to sponsor games occasionally, so he took me in the sponsors lounge and I got Ash’s autograph. I was surprised I was taller than him as I was only 14 at the time. He took a few minutes to chat to me too. Stuff of dreams when you’re a kid. Top fella.

Just seen this link on YouTube and you forget how bad some grounds were back in the day, some of these grounds were bloody dangerous especially with the amount of fans we used to take away, I remember being behind the goal for this game https://youtu.be/A2mC-wN0EF4

What a ray of sunlight his appearance was.
Tony who was the Orient thug who broke his leg? Rare in those days to get a red card so early in the game.

I think it was John Sitton - although it's a long time ago so I could be wrongsteve1264b wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 7:37 amTony who was the Orient thug who broke his leg? Rare in those days to get a red card so early in the game.

You're not wrong, and in the first minute of the game. Sitton sent off, Ash carried on for a few minutes before having to be substituted.EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 8:09 amI think it was John Sitton - although it's a long time ago so I could be wrong

Re: fao hoskinsgoalatswansea
The weird thing about any Burnley message board is that it is like a journey to the past. I knew Jimmy Robson who was just a fantastic bloke - he lived on an estate off Glen View Road before moving to the Queens Park area of the town.
And I met Ashley Hoskins many years ago - I think he had family in Huncoat who I knew. Another very decent down to earth bloke.
It's kind of weird talking about them in public but also it's quite discombobulating trying to recall the circumstances, people and places that you knew them.

I should add Jimmy Robson isn't mentioned here but on another thread posted today. I don't just randomly name drop people - well not all the time anyway.

And I should also say that in the same estate Jiimmy Rob lived - Mick Docherty lived around the corner and I seem to recall Eric Probert lived around there too.
Just imagine being a kid and 3 Premiership players live near to you. You'd probably have to live in Cheshire these days

I had a bit of an exchange with Sitton on Twitter. He said I thought you northern lads like a full blooded tackle.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Feb 07, 2022 10:51 amYou're not wrong, and in the first minute of the game. Sitton sent off, Ash carried on for a few minutes before having to be substituted.
I do. But I draw the line at assaulting a 17 year old and breaking his leg in the first minute of a game.

It finished 2-2. A valuable point at the time.

Re: fao hoskinsgoalatswansea
For some reason the game was played on a Friday night and Ash's goal was so good that it was shown on Football Focus the next day; this being a time that we got naff-all coverage on the BBC. Actually, some things don't change.

35 years, a great goal and no mistake.

The presenter said just watch this. Its not Diego who, this is Ashley Hoskin of Burnley.
