The Roosevelt is brilliant, absolutely gorgeous.too. If you look around various NY hotel provider websites, it sometimes pops up at a relatively bargain price. It's featured in loads of films.

Yes, closed down in 2020 due to COVID pandemic and owners state it will remain permanently closed unless someone buys them out.

You can stay in some lovely apartments. A bit of luxury and privacy at the same time.

Re: New york hotels
I stayed at the Edison a few years ago. I paid for one of the rooms that you see a photo of. I paid quite a lot of money for 3 nights for a nice room as I’ve stayed in some real dumps in New York.
The room bore no resemblance to what I was expecting. I went to reception with my iPad showing the room I had booked and after a brief argument with the receptionist, she threw some keys at me for another room. This too bore no resemblance to the photo. But it was much larger, so we just kept that one.
New York is notorious for expensive hotel rooms, they spend money on a lavish lobby and don’t update the rooms.
I would stay there again, but I wouldn’t pay what they ask for the rooms.

Hotel already booked by travel agent so I'm a little committed

Re: New york hotels
I stayed at the Edison 3 years ago but never again. Very run down and impersonal (to be fair much like a lot of Manhattan). The only saving grace is there was quite a good "jazz" bar on the ground floor.
Frankly the whole Times Square bit in midtown is worth avoiding.

Daughter, a seasoned traveller, has stayed at the link. In Times Sq. She recommends it.

Re: New york hotels
I use airbnb for NYC. Great apartments, available all over the city, full kitchen, lounge, much cheaper than the hotels.
Re: New york hotels
Wherever you stay be super careful. NY ain’t what it used to be.

I'm at staying at the 'Yotel' in New York in the summer, if anyone knows anything about that one.
Thanks in advance.

My wife is an independent travel agent and had just put together a couple of New York packages. She has a business account on WhatsApp if you want to drop her a text on 07580140450.

Re: New york hotels
Stayed there around 10 years ago now. Basic but slap bang in the middle of Times Square. Given we were sightseeing all day and into the evening it was fine for what we wanted.
Re: New york hotels
Which is the one which has jennifer Lopez in a maids outfit again?
Re: New york hotels
Most are dumps around Times Square. They know they can sell rooms easily and never update them.
ROW a few blocks away is pretty decent, more like a higher end Travelodge.
Personally I’d stay somewhere in Brooklyn and avoid Times Square. (Once you’ve been, that’s pretty much it).

Re: New york hotels
Just booked for 4 nights in the middle of June.
Hoping to take in some sort of sports match, leaning towards a Mets game. Would’ve preferred to see the Rangers play but I believe it’s the playoffs then so there’s obviously no news on fixtures for then.

Used it a few times fidel... Get what you pay for... Decent enough.. Functional and smart but smallish rooms.. Very private feel to it, and handy for most of the uptown area.. Great if you wanna see NYC and not sit in your room obsessing about the hotel.
Lobby isn't like a "normal" hotel..so just find the guys in the bellhop outfits who'll clue you up.

Re: New york hotels
My favorite NYC hotel is the Citizen M Bowery. It leans a little towards micro hotel rooms, but larger, and with lots of gadgets, but the bars, staff, rooftop, coffee shop, very chic decor make it the most enjoyable hotel for me. It’s also walking distance to the Village and loads of very cool secret bars
