Re: Russia Invades
The assassination of Putin is going to be the only way out of this horrific mess. I suspect his senior military generals have a military coup nagging away in the back of their minds. It will take a lot of courage to move from thoughts to action though.

Interesting how often we are seeing unarmed citizens obstructing troops who are unwilling to move them on physically…

Might not be so straight forward… Putin gets rid of them as soon as they seem to question him in any way. The evidence came on day two or three when he fired his Chief of Staff…. The last thing a leader normally does at the start of a war.

At least it proves that frontline troops are abiding by some sort of rules of war. You can’t attack unarmed civilians.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 12:08 pmInteresting how often we are seeing unarmed citizens obstructing troops who are unwilling to move them on physically…

Is this the case for beer though? Isn't most foreign beer brewed in the UK under licence?ClaretInLeeds wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 11:45 amYou laugh, but what companies are effectively doing is ostracising Russia in any way possible. Advertising, promotion, buying from Russian suppliers and procuring Russian made assets will hurt Putin because his own people will turn on him and, at worst, remove him from power.
As trivial as it seems, every little statement like this will help Ukraine.
Probably the cynic coming out in me but I think there's also a fine line between organisations taking genuine action to support Ukrainians or hurt Russia and exploiting the situation for self-promotion.
Re: Russia Invades
Has that been confirmed though?elwaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 12:12 pmMight not be so straight forward… Putin gets rid of them as soon as they seem to question him in any way. If it has he could have been sacked for any number of reasons including proper military ones like a failure to achieve objectives that Putin was told were achievable with the forces at hand.
Re: Russia Invades
If Putin is replaced, what sort of person do you think will have the authority required to do it? My guess is only someone similar to Putin, one of his cronies.

I think anyone willing and able to take Putin from power will be well aware of his backing. After years of staking Parliament it is going to take someone incredibly brave within the Duma, more likely they will align once a populist leader emerges outside Parliament, those within will start switching sides.

Couple of damaged (captured) Ukrainian T-64s
Btw, capturing undamaged stuff that can be used against the opposition is only really helpful if you have the trained crews to man them

Downside to travelling at speed through unfamiliar territory can create its own problems. A decent road block and drivers reacting to sudden halts… Archduke Ferdinand or Enniskillen type traps.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 1:39 pmRussian troops in Balikaya (Khark'iv oblast)

Farmers recovering a Russian TOR SAM system
Ukraine had no TOR systems before the invasion, now they have more than one at least (assuming it still works)
If they work, then these are state of the art (well, for Russia) systems and will make it harder for their aircraft to operate over Ukrainian air space

Watched Biden’s State of the Union address, he is attempting to keep ‘America First’ on side with a whole raft of ‘Buy American’ measures, reducing medical cost and a huge infrastructure rebuild and generally “Let’s make America great” and future-proof… a balance no doubt for the amount America react to ‘foreign wars’… as we know they have form against ‘European’ wars.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 02, 2022 2:07 pmWorth mentioning here that the shelling of Kyi'v and Khark'iv (and others) and clear targeting of civilians could result in more refugees, and that may well be part of the Russian plan now

They flew Syrians into Belarus, telling them they could cross to the West without an issue, which (of course) turned out to be false
The reasons the queues are so big at the border is that they are checking who is coming over I think

Pretty easily solvable as long as the West remains united though
