The UK has both red and white phosphorus in its everyday arsenal. The issue here is not the substance, but it’s probable intended use. We use it to ‘smoke screen’ utilising its burning properties to produce a dense smoke cloud. Others use it for other means.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 12:44 pmuse of white phosphorous

Not sure, I was researching aid to the countries that support Russia and that came up, I assume it is like Yahoo news and a collection of news from the likes of Reuters under one banner. I get why they would try to influence Belarus though to turn to the West not to Rissia. As they said in Game of Thrones you make peace with your enemies or something like that.JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 10:58 pmThat article is from August 2020, what is the Daily maverick I have never heard of it?

IR Illum is something else. ‘Phos’ is purely reserved for ‘smoke screening’ in the UK military.JarrowClaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 24, 2022 11:05 pmNot sure many would use them in built up areas like the Russians did but hey. U.S. President Joe Biden said on Thursday that if Russia were to use chemical weapons in its invasion of Ukraine, the United States would respond.
"We would respond, we would respond if he uses it. The nature of the response would depend on the nature of the use," Biden said at a news conference in Brussels.

Yesterday and today there have been US Chinooks flying to the same area of the remote airfield close to the border of Ukraine. You would suspect it’s the delivery of the US arms Biden promised.

The longer it goes on the more the west can wean itself of Russias gas and oil. The deal yesterday helps. Hopefully we can turn on more North Sea oil and gas. I have no idea how long that takes by the way.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 10:44 amIts beginning to sound like Russia is going for a long war, and will be relying on the usual suspects in the West to undermine Western support for Ukraine

I think at the moment many Russians who own villas and property across Europe probably think the ban on them going will be a temporary thing, but once they realise it’s not, there could be more unrest. Well I hope there will be.
Today the equipment loses are at 1800, a long war at that rate of attrition will see his equipment reduced by 50% in 12 weeks. That has to be unsustainable and as I said before the Russians would have to pull back and regroup.

Ukraine claims over 4000.
If the number is in between it would still be around 3000 pieces of kit.
It’s a shame we don’t know the accrual amounts of kit he sent in, but as I have said that is serious degradation of equipment and loses like that cannot be sustainable.

Quite agree, they also look stencilled rather than hand painted - I eventually decided they were the original invasion grouping and the ‘rallying symbol’ for communists of ‘Odessa’ - the city where the October Revolution (the failed one) started in 1918 - aka the “Bolshevik -Odessa Revolution” - but it’s my musing rather than anything I’ve found.

The G20 agreement sets out special prices for members and probably most important Guarentees IMMUNITY from prosecution for the members. Not sure how the voting works but I think Biden’s idea is to force China into a corner where they potentially also risk their membership if they do anything silly. But again I’m no expert on G20 so others will probably know more.

And the horrendous cost of living crisis is going to make it hard for Western countries to prioritise, especially if it turns into a slog fest
But I am relatively comfortable that the EU/UK/NATO/AUS/JAPAN etc will remain united v Russia
Still think the key could be China, but it doesn't have to do a right lot now and Russia is falling over itself to sell them discounted oil and gas
