Russia Invades
Re: Russia Invades
Sorry. I was obviously unaware Johnson was in Kiev. I don't like the man but I must say fair play to him.

Re: Russia Invades
Hi Lowbank,
That's perfectly understandable. Whilst I doubt Putin would order his troops to take Johnson out - although one does wonder all the same - there are no guarantees all Russian troops have left Kiev. They are committing the worst possible crimes so assassinating a politician might seem quite natural to one of them.

Many thanks for your post.
There's absolutely no problem! I didn't take it personally.
We're all on the same side on UTC and we're all on the same side on this thread which we all wish had no reason to exist. But there is a war in Ukraine and we all want to know the truth. We need to know the truth. I have children and I need to tell them the truth.
This thread has shown the very best of what a forum can achieve ie solidarity and respect amongst its members. No "points scoring", no BBBs.
I have the least military knowledge of the regular contributors and I come on here to learn.
I'm truly grateful to you and all the other Clarets who are sharing their knowledge and sources of info.

When you say Ukraine bombed it’s own people with missiles I don’t think think they even have, you will do anything in my book.

Re: Russia Invades
It’s looking like it’s going to be fairly quiet for a few days whilst the Russians regroup and try to re-arm.
Now it’s difficult to read between the lines of all the stuff that’s written.
If we try to go half way between reports, Russia has limited resources to deploy.
I expect in a few days they (Russians) will start to take ground , but if we have sent enough weapons I think Ukraine will eventually take it back and some ground the Russians currently hold.

Ukraine has captured 1000 pieces of kit from the Russians. In some cases they now have more kit than before the war started.

I wasn’t going to post/share this link, but at the end of the video it requests the viewer to share it.
A Ukrainian civilian says Russian troops opened fire on his vehicle, killing his father as they were evacuating from the town of Ivankiv in the Kyiv region. The man captured video of the February 25 attack on his phone and said he and his father, Oleh Bulavenko, had returned to their home to rescue their three dogs. RFE/RL has verified that no Ukrainian troops were in the area at the time of the shooting. The sole surviving dog refused the leave Bulavenko's body after the shooting. Or that he was the first in town either.. this is still very brave of him though he could of quite easily done a side step, I guess with some of the language used against us coming out of the Kremlin he is a target above most leaders. I am curious about how the russian populace are being kept in the dark
news correspondents report colossal internal support for putin.
Its not so much the obvious reporting within their country being one sided, rather the inability of foreign news leaking into their system.
Surely in the modern technological era there would be ways and means to let the russians have knowledge of the truth. what about russians living abroad who can contact their freinds and families and let them know what has been occuring.

They are getting the message into the younger people in the cities, but in the rural areas (where the soldiers are mainly drafted) and older generations rely on state news just as they always have, Putin can’t be telling lies, it all sounds so familiar; the West was ‘out to get the Soviet Republic from Lenin to the fall of the Wall.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 10:41 pmI am curious about how the russian populace are being kept in the dark

^ really good bit of journalism here from Vice that was published at the back end of 2019 - shows the cognitive dissonance of those in Crimea. Mainly how they get influenced off the Russian propaganda machine but deep down know life/things were better under Ukrainian control.
Also shows what the russians real goal was to annex Crimea - it certainly wasn’t liberating people..

Great to read the Johnson "love in"..especially when we're chatting about the ease with which a country's population can be hoodwinked by a populist approach to the media.

Allegedly a Russian tank firing into a group of Ukrainian soldiers at close range after Ukrainians mistook it for one of their own. Just shows the fog of war, and what a minute of complacency can cause.
Obviously not a nice video. Don't watch it if you'd rather not see it. It's not bloody, but people were almost certainly killed.
