How more morally bankrupt can Putin get? He's ordered schools to give pupils lessons in how to fire Kalashnikovs.

I honestly don't think he's pulling the strings anymore. It strikes me Putin has seriously weakened his authority with this whole botched "operation" and that guy in charge of the Wagner group (for one) is probably wielding much more power and making far more important decisions than Vlad these days.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 12:29 pmHow more morally bankrupt can Putin get? It talk's about an ideological fracture between pro-war figures and Russian President Vladimir Putin, eroding confidence in Putin’s commitment and ability to deliver his war promises.

The attacks today were a “response” to a political speech addressed to world leaders by ukraines president. Pitiful and vile by the Russians. Those fence sitting third world countries should be ashamed.
Ps for any plane spotters a Qatari C17 has just flown over Rishton on way in to Wharton. Quite a sight!

Don't we still have cadet training at schools, not to mention the ATC, Sea Cadets and Army Cadets? I was in The ATC aged 14 and we learnt to fire .303 Lee Enfields.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Mon Nov 14, 2022 12:29 pmHow more morally bankrupt can Putin get? Yes, but I’m not sure you can compare the two tbh.
Teaching kids at school how to fire automatic weapons whilst their armed forces are mercilessly killing their neighbours is a bit different to voluntarily joining your local armed forces cadets don’t you think?

Yes, but only in private or grammar schools (I was in the Army cadets at LRGS)
Firing Lee Enfields is one thing, but the only time I ever fired anything remotely like an AK-47 was in an actual army camp in Okehampton (SA80, and even then only on single shot)

Fired those myself, Hipper.
In the ATC in the late 60s. We were told they were actual WW1 guns.

Re: Russia Invades
Just read about the Polish incident no doubt Russia will say Ukraine did it. This is an attack on NATO country could history repeat itself re the 2nd World War and the attack on Poland then brought Britain and others in.

If Russia has any brains at all, they will apologise and offer compensation
Course, they haven't used their brains yet
Of all the NATO countries to hit unintentionally, then Poland would be the worse one to hit
Don't think there will be much of a response from NATO, but a contrite Russia would certainly help

I think it will be proportional upped military support and potentially longer ranged missiles to Poland, Estonia and Lithuania have already said they will support what ever action poland deems necessary, those Baltic states really hate those ruzzians

I hope not. It will be put down as accidental. NATO just needs to keep it's head and continue to wear down Putin.

Just heard this. I'm hoping, very desperately, that this was an accident. In all honesty, I suspect it was (obviously without any proof). If Putin starts attacking Poland then things are going to get even grimmer.

Re: Russia Invades
100% an accident
The Russians are getting their arses kicked by an army with what is essentially 1980s Warsaw Pact and NATO equipment (plus some HIMARS)
And they will know NATOs strength is in the air, and the Russian air force has completely failed to achieve anything in Ukraine

Re: Russia Invades
Article five calls for all needed support to deter or protect a nato member , it does not specifically call for military direct action and article 4 would probably be activated first. Flight tracker shows a hell of a lot of plane activity on the border with Belarus and russia now, probably a defensive pre caution, need cool heads in next 24 hours

Russians say its a provocation
NATO AWACS and ISR aircraft will know exactly what caused this, so either Russia is continuing its dumb as f**k decision making of 2022 or they are very sure its not them

China didn’t declare war when the US bombed their embassy in Belgrade. NATO won’t suddenly kick off over the sad death of 2 farmers (even if Russian missile and not a Ukr S300).
A good example of why these things aren’t judged by professionals by what’s written on football message boards!

First look does suggest its the remains of an S-300 SAM missile
Course, it wouldn't have to be fired if the Russians didn't attack Ukrainian infrastructure this close to the Polish border

Likely to have been .22 SA80 as well not the proper 1. Anyway just to add Cadets is not about teaching someone to be a soldier or to prepare someone to go to war anybody who thinks that is very deluded. It is more about discipline, team bonding and mostly having fun.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Nov 15, 2022 3:57 pmYes, but only in private or grammar schools (I was in the Army cadets at LRGS)

Up to the age of 13 all I wanted to do was join the army, a year in the cadets finished that sadly

Apparently China and India are distancing themselves from Russia. Stop buying the oil and gas would finish the war though, Putin would be bankrupt.

Not going to happen, they are getting Russian oil and gas at very cheap rates
But they will be putting pressure on about ending the war, especially after what might have happened last night
Course, whether Russia will listen when its still in complete denial about the reality of the war is key
I don't think they are there or anywhere near that yet

No I'm not writing Putin's propaganda, it's just an acknowledgement that we're living in dangerous times and all leaders need to keep clear heads and hope there are no knee jerk reactions.

Its an Ukrainian S-300 SAM missile, fired only because Ukraine is being attacked by Russian missiles in revenge for Russia losing yet another battle on the ground in Ukraine
You are quite right that its dangerous times, but launching missiles to attack non-military targets close to the Polish border is very provocative by Russia, and quite in keeping with the lunacy of this entire sorry episode
I don't worry about the reactions of NATO btw, I worry about the hotheads and fanatics in the Kremlin who are happily swallowing the propaganda they have been fed for decades and haven't worked out yet how badly they are off compared to NATO
