That's the fourth person I've heard of as having pneumonia in the past few days - has it always been with us during the pandemic or is this another sinister development in the Covid virus' effect ?

Re: John Toshack very ill
Many people contract pneumonia because of other illnesses and that takes some fighting against.
Hell of a partnership with Keegan at Liverpool in the 1970s, let’s hope he pulls through.

Absolutely, the Toshack/Keegan duo did for a hell of a lot of teams including us if I remember an Anfield game, 1974 I think, correctly.
JT scored, KK assisted, as they say these days.

That was some team in the seventies.
Re: John Toshack very ill
Wasn't there a memorable goal scored for Wales following a link up between John Toshack and Brian Flynn where they passed the ball to each other 'several times (three perhaps,) before BF put it in the opposition goal ? Or am I getting JT mixed up with someone else ?
Re: John Toshack very ill
Toshack played a 1-2 with Flynn who scored on his debut for Wales maybe it's that goal you're thinking of.
Get well soon, to him.

Over 2,000 people per week (averaged over the whole year) die of flu or pneumonia. More in winter, of course. It's very common - a lot of it is because it's very rare to see people die of old age according to their death certificate - they have to have a more proximate reason.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 5:31 pmThat's the fourth person I've heard of as having pneumonia in the past few days - has it always been with us during the pandemic or is this another sinister development in the Covid virus' effect ?

Sept 2020 I had gone to pharmacist to book a flu vaccination. They were still waiting for annual flu vaccine to be delivered. Pharmacist then told me a pneumonia vaccination was available to all over 65 year olds. I got mine immediately. One dose protects for ever. I recommend anyone who is eligible to get vaccinated to protect from pneumonia.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 5:40 pmMany people contract pneumonia because of other illnesses and that takes some fighting against.

Will second that, I saw my Dad die of pneumonia and it was awful seeing him gasp for breath as he did, if your post means one person gets the vaccine and thus avoids contracting pneumonia it will be worth it.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 11:49 pmSept 2020 I had gone to pharmacist to book a flu vaccination. Re: John Toshack very ill
I got my pneumonia jab in 2003. I’d gone to the docs for my flu jab and was asked if I wanted the pneumonia jab at the same time.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Sun Feb 27, 2022 11:49 pmSept 2020 I had gone to pharmacist to book a flu vaccination. Re: John Toshack very ill
My dad suffered with dementia for a good number of years but at the end he contracted pneumonia and that’s how he was the last time I saw him.
Re: John Toshack very ill
My Dad had cancer of the oesophagus but it was the pneumonia that finally caused his death as his body was too weak to fight it off.And the cause of death on his death certificate was pneumonia.
I echo the thoughts of Paul Waine that if you are eligible for a pneumonia vaccine then have it. For your own sake and also for the sake of your loved ones.

Re: John Toshack very ill
Very sad to hear that Toshack is so Ill, what a player he was. I remember day dreaming as a lad that Burnley would buy him from Cardiff. He was snapped up by Liverpool to be one of their greats.
I would also recommend that everyone gets a pneumonia jab, like many on here I was given it with a flu jab a few years back. They don’t call pneumonia ‘the old man’s fry’ for nothing.

Re: John Toshack very ill
The Toshack /Keegan partnership was always the one twin strikers benchmarked themselves on. It did create something hugely successful for other clubs possessing a big front man playing along a lively striker. Dont think anyone surpassed these two thought but we did see Heskey/ Owen, in our case Vokes/Ings that were successful too. We have had other good twin combos ie Lockhead/Irvine, Fletcher/Casper, Taylor/Blake where there was a real understanding between the pair and plenty of goals

We won at Anfield in 1974 and the following year lost 1-0 with a last minute goal, I think, from John Toshack. Toshack also had a time of success as a manager with Swansea after his playing career ended.

Not sure about it being next season Toshack scored the late one.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 1:27 pmWe won at Anfield in 1974 and the following year lost 1-0 with a last minute goal, I think, from John Toshack. My first Anfield visit was the season before we beat them there. Think that was late in the season, Spring time.
Then we won at Anfied next season.
Though might be wrong.

I was nudged re an oft forgotten fact at The Bridge quiz last week. John Toshak and Swansea finished 6th in the top flight in 1982 as Liverpool were crowned Champions. An excellent achievement. An extremely good player was Toshak.

Re: John Toshack very ill
The ageing years catching up with me again. 73-74 we beat them at home on Boxing day 2-1 and it was the return at Anfield, as you quite rightly say in the Spring that they beat us 1-0 in the last minute. 74-75 we won 0-1 in Sep/Oct with Ian Brennan's goal and drew at home in March 75,1-1. Lost 2-0.at Anfield in 76 and got relegated. I must do better.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Mon Feb 28, 2022 1:51 pmNot sure about it being next season Toshack scored the late one.

Fabulous news .
When we had Danny Ings and Big Sam , their movement and almost telepathic interaction always reminded me of Big John Toshack and Kevin Keegan .

That pitch would be " a threat to player safety " now, and the game postponed ...Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 10:13 amThis one.
