Aaron Lennon, I’m happy to say I was wrong.

Post by Jamesy » Mon Feb 28, 2022 11:05 am

Just feel the need to comment on how pleased I am about Aaron’s performances and commitment to the team of late. He is looking a real threat and could be a key player in our quest for survival. Big credit to Sean and the management team for putting their faith in him.
When he re signed at the start of the season I was one of the first to criticise the decision as I thought he could add no value whatsoever to our squad. However the rejuvenated Aaron Lennon is looking like the Aaron Lennon from several years ago and I hope he is good within himself at the moment. Thank you Aaron, I hope your run of form continues and you can stay injury free.

Agreed Lennon has adequately replaced the 2 injury-prone crocks Brady and JBG who could never put together a run of games when the going got tough. A bit harsh but so is life at the bottom of the PL. Keep it up Aaron.

Can't knock AL recently, and I agree he's now a key 1st team starter, which I wouldn't have imagined a few months ago.

He's providing goals and assists now, as well as still putting in a defensive shift, and he is once again enjoying his football.

Credit to him for proving all the doubters myself included wrong.

I think that Wout’s strength at controlling the ball and intelligent holding play has allowed the midfield to link much more effectively with our attack. The whole of the midfield four have benefited and we are no longer giving the ball away so cheaply.

I too have been a ‘constructive critic’ of Lennon’s positioning and movement off the ball but he’s definitely improved a lot over the last 4-5 games (has Dyche given him a little bit more ‘freedom’ from defensive duties?) and deserves credit for his hard work and positive forward play.

Well done Aaron your efforts are appreciated!

AL has the one thing that is lacking with every other player in our side and that is pace to burn. He has the ability to get back at players if they have gone past him, which is a real asset.

Talk about a massive over reaction.

Since the start of the year, coincides with Weghorst joining us, quite a few players appear to be happier with their football. They look like a “Band of Brothers“ again.

Never thought I would say this but he is undroppable. I feel now we need to win games Dyche has had to unleash his attacking prowess.

I like it when fans get it wrong and hold their hand up.

Add me to the list - thought AL was past his best but he's proved us wrong. Brilliant - couldn't be more pleased for him.

If I remember correctly, Sean had wanted to give him a new contract but this was not forthcoming and he went on his way and was playing in Turkey.

Sean must have considered that he was a valuable squad member and I know that AL had been grateful for the opportunity that Sean had given him. Whatever the reasons, Sean must have felt that he could still do a job for us and he re-signed him when he had the opportunity under new ownership.
AL has certainly been repaying the faith shown in him and long may it continue.

I never really understood the negativity towards him first time round but was surprised we took him back. He’s having a right purple patch just now and is a key player.

And he's right footed so balances the team up nicely.
He links well with Roberts
This also allow Brownhill to stay more central rather than going wide right to help out left footed, ineffective wingers.

His year in Turkey obviously did him good.

I always liked him. I think the negative comments were down to his age but he doesn't play like a 34 year old at all.

A lot of us thought that we needed a new right winger this window and Aaron Lennon has stepped up to the plate. Attributing his improvement to Wout is unfair, he always seemed to be behind JBG in the past but maybe playing regular football has given him that edge back to his game. Long may it continue.

I've just been reading a report in today's paper and he is the fastest player at the club. He also once suffered from depression badly and keeps a note of all the good and positive things that happen everyday.

He has surpassed most fans expectations I think and thankfully he looks like a rejuvenated player just when we needed everyone to step it up.

Credit to Dyche and Co who clearly know far more than us mortals and well done to AL for finding his form again.

He's 5'11'' so he'll be looking down on a fair few.

Really? That’s incredible.
I’d have thought the younger Cornet and maybe Roberts and brownhill would be our fastest.

I’d imagine Lennon probs in the top 10 fastest prem
players , one thing he hasn’t lost is speed . Though we’re a painfully slow side it must be said . He’s so much better when being able to attack and get out wide rather than playing tight and being dragged into midfield duels

I was one of those who was absolutely fine with him re-signing and argued for the shrewdness of the deal, but even then I only saw him as a valuable squad player. Never thought he would make the shirt his to lose. I sometimes roll my eyes out of the back of my head when I hear the phrase, "in Dyche we trust," because to me at least it seems a bit of a non-statement in any chat about footy, but this is one of those occasions, like so many over the years, that demonstrate why trust has been genuinely earned.
