Team v Chelsea
Definitely changes required from Tuesday as some were leggy.
I'd bring Cork back in, and there might be a case for Lowton in place of Roberts given Chelsea's strength in the wide areas. Mee has to be a doubt, and if there's any question I'd rest him for Brentford, Cornet I'd try on the left and give Lennon a break.
Pope
Lowton Tarks Collins Taylor
Cornet Cork Brownhill McNeil
WW Jay

Re: Team v Chelsea
Two thoughts on this.
Firstly, we've always done OK against teams playing Tuchel/Conte's system by matching their 3-4-3 with a 4-4-2. It allows our back 4 to stay narrow against their leading striker and inside forwards, and then matches our midfield 4 against their 2 holding players and wing backs - with 2 strikers able to give us a platform against a back 3 when we get the ball. The key to that is of course the work rate and tactical acumen of the two wide players. Lennon is a given for that job and McNeil (for all his detractors) is better than the vast majority of creative players in that regard, and certainly better than Cornet. It also relies on the strikers giving us a platform when we get the ball to get us up the pitch and out of our defensive shape, and filling in holes defensively. Given Cornet hasn't worked as a striker in giving us a platform (including at Stamford Bridge, where he was hooked having been pretty ineffective), and Rodriguez and Weghorst have, it seems to me a no brainer to go 4-4-2 but leave Cornet on the bench.
The counter-thought is that at Stamford Bridge we became more effective when Dwight went centrally and we matched 3 up against their back 3 and risked giving the wing backs space. My view would be though that bringing cornet off the bench to make that shape as an option is a much better bet than starting in that shape.

Re: Team v Chelsea
Cork for Westwood and Jay Rod for Cornet. Presuming Pieters is definitely out?

Re: Team v Chelsea
I think Cornet would be better on the bench to use if we are chasing the game and I'd play Pope in the centre of his goals rather than behind Roberts protecting the corner flag. Apart from that I reckon your team could maybe get a draw if we played wellVegas Claret wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 4:24 amPope

Re: Team v Chelsea
Exactly my choice. Jay and Cork deserve to start and Cornet on the bench gives us 3 options if we need to bring him on. Jay & VW will offer the Chelsea defence more of a threat and physical presenceClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Mar 04, 2022 4:51 pmPieters is out. I'd make those two changes plus Collins for Mee.
