You can tell we lost today
All the pussies are out crying again.
FFS we just lost to the European Champions. Should have been in front at half time and then Chelsea suddenly were clinical - 3 chances and scored every one. Game is over then.
Still plenty to play for

But that's why the cry babies (me included) are out in force. Because we SHOULD have been leading at half time and if you miss sitters against these kind of teams, you know what's going to happen. And unfortunately it did. They weren't the best Chelsea team to come in recently years and I can't help feeling they were fortunate with the first goal and overall they got away with it today.

Not really, its about putting the ball in the net, legally. If we’d been awful and scraped a lucky point we’d have been cock-a-hoop. We didn’t score first half and they targeted our open secret weak left. Win at Brentford no one cares about losing three points to Chelsea.

Re: You can tell we lost today
Of course we all care but there has to be some sense of perspective. We play to the top of our game and Chelsea are more than half decent we lose.
We played badly and got potted. I look at it that this result flags up, yet again, our imbalance - something that others sides aim for and we over defend - our weak left hand side. We were able to play like we did against Spurs because of Mee and especially Pieters. Not sure what we do when those two are unfit, but I’d try Cornet back on the left to lob side their defence and track back, at least until we can get Pieters back. This is not picking on players, both Taylor and McNeal can turn a game on their day, but for now it has to be about shape and solidity first from here.
Dyche has clearly decided he also needs to find the right partner for WW. I don’t think Cornet is best employed up top and Jay Rod has been blowing hot a cold for a while, so hopefully he finds some sustained form from somewhere.
Re: You can tell we lost today
You are right Babylon. If we had taken our two good chances first half it would have been a totally different game. Can’t believe McNeil missed that chance he had. I suppose that’s the difference though between a decent player and a very good player. I’m not worried about Brentford tonking Norwich today, we will do a number on them next week if we start with the same line up we started with today with perhaps just Ben coming back in for Nathan Collins. Chins up guys we are not done yet. UTCBabylonClaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 6:50 pmAll the pussies are out crying again.

Re: You can tell we lost today
I agree that losing 4-0 to Chelsea isn’t something to get too worried about
What I think most are annoyed at is the manner in which we lost.
For the first half we were holding them off and looked in some control
That opening 10mins of the second half was as shambolic as if seen in a long time

Our start to the second half was bizarre. Misplaced passes, players colliding and tackling each other. We must be taking the wrong drugs.

We are not taking chances at crucial times, but conceding at regular intervals giving us no recovery time. Not looking good for us right now is it ??

Re: You can tell we lost today
What a silly statement of course people will care if we end up being relegated even if we win at Brentford, everything will be reflected what could have happened here or there if this that & the other would have happened, vydra missing against palace in the dying embers of the game & Dwight missing a gaping goal amongst many more. It doesn’t matter if we end up staying up 3pts against Brentford will help but it won’t be over there.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 7:09 pmNot really, its about putting the ball in the net, legally. Re: You can tell we lost today
Did you expect anything from today's game? Thought not.
Today, we lost to the European and World (Ha Ha) Champions.
This season they've knocked 3 past Spurs, Newcastle, Southampton, Leicester and Villa, and 7 past Norwich.
We could have been 2-0 up at halftime. You cannot blame Sean Dyche for those misses.
Chelsea's squad is worth around a billion pounds. Today, they brought on Kovacic, Loftus-Cheek and Werner, whilst having the likes of Lukaku, Ziyech, Christensen, Arrizabalaga, Kenedy and Sarr.
As has been said elsewhere today, today's loss will not define our season.
So, relax and get back to supporting the lads. Those off to Brentford next week. Start lubricating your vocal chords now!

Re: You can tell we lost today
We played pretty well first half. We'd the better chances.
Second half was poor. Largely because we imploded for 10 daft minutes and it sucked the life out out us.
We just happened to have a bad time against the current World & European Champions....it's going to happen sometimes when we're competing against these sort of clubs.
We've not got £50/£100/£150 million pound strikers to score at high ratios-per chance....
Ditto the same, with world class CM players who can spray a pass anywhere they want to, when they're not scoring themselves....and it goes on.
All we've got, for the most part, are a collection of very good, upfront Pro footballers who, do the best they can, in a way they're good at, using a system that's kept us up, agains the odds for longer than you'd think. Occasionally one or two will have individual, stand-out performances against the best in the world. Because they're ALL good players.
But the gulf now, with not only competing against Big City clubs, but also state backed sides is crazy.
The top Six these days, playing against the lower end of the Prem, is a bit like an old 1st Division side playing an old 2nd/3rd or even 4th division team every week! ( in my humble opinion, anyway)
Things didn't work out for Dwight today, Ash Westwood wasn't brilliant, and he'd a shocker last week.
But they'll both come back.
And if we do go down, maybe some on here will be happier about the football next year.
Or not.

Re: You can tell we lost today
I went to post on another thread, but it seems to have vanished, so here will do.
At Brighton we took our chances and won handsomely, but sadly there's been countless other times this season when we haven't converted our dominance into goals, and in this league you'll more often than not pay a heavy price for such profligacy.
On the plus side you can at least point to us actually creating the chances in the first place, but I guess that's why top strikers go for big bucks.

Hi BuxtonClaret, I followed the match thread and have a question for you.Buxtonclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 10:17 pmWe played pretty well first half. We'd the better chances.
You either watch an extremely slow stream, or you type with your toenails, but you are always 3-4 minutes behind everybody else. If we concede you will post something which makes those of us who aren't watching the game think we've conceded again. If we score we think we've scored twice in 5 minutes because you post.
What I'm trying to get at is it's best if you don't commentate on the match day thread because it's never in sync. It's always confusing.

Just to help the extreme head slapping Ayatollah Khomeini's on here......
When someone says the weather has been crap today (when it's factual and obvious to everyone), they don't mean it was crap yesterday, tomorrow, all week or everyday since time began.
They just mean today.

One went off, so I started watching a back-up. I was also casting my backup stream. Miles behind. Happens sometimes. Other times it's pretty good.
It's also one of the reasons I stopped posting for most of the 2nd Half.?
But will also say, on busy match threads, you'll find quite a few out of sync posts, from a variety of users.

You've missed dthe point entirely. It not that people complain we threw one in. It's all the "we are so ****" "Dyche is useless" "our players are not good enough for this league" "see - the good stuff was just a blip" "back to hoofball" shite that trots out when we fail to win.
We actually played pretty well yesterday apart from a mad 10-15 mins when we weirdly threw a defensive wobbler and Chelsea took full advantage. We kept plugging away after that but really the game was gone. That's not indicative of where we will finish as it's not normally our trademark

So it's not ok to question why we 'weirdly threw a defensive wobbler' ?

I don't know why we threw a wobbler but my thinking is they git a kind of unexpected goal which lifted Chelsea (as goals often do - see the Leeds and Newcastle games for the impact a goal makes) and then we didn't react I time. They basically had 3 efforts in 8 minutes that all went in. That's not usual for us.
