My mum is looking at swapping her car but swaying towards the leasing end of things. Basically she's looking at spending monthly rather than an initial layout. Doesn't need to be a big car as it's just for pottering around town.

As I know this is the font of all knowledge, I said that I'd try to tap into some experience so has anybody got any recommendations in or around the Burnley area ?

Google around for the best deal. All the companies you see online are effectively brokers for the handful of big lease cos. If you don’t have anything particular in mind you can usually find a bargain

But don’t forget, there’s always an initial outlay in the form of a deposit. Depends on your deal but normally an amount made up of a multiplication of your monthly payment.

I’ve leased a few times, the most recent being my new car arriving yesterday.

The tip is to get familiar with prices. Have a look at lease loco, contract cars, select car leasing and XLCR at colne.

Do the maths, look at the monthly cost x months, add the broker fee, the upfront fee and then see what the real cost is per month.

I found a deal with leaseloco, worked out better due to a lower broker charge.

The challenge at the moment is the lack of stock, the lease companies have very little to offer as there is such short stock everywhere. Maybe speak to the ones I mentioned above and give them idea of the car you want- they probably won’t get it but they should be able to find a few alternatives.

At the moment, I think leasing is the best option- it’s just finding a car to suit when you need it.

I used to think this. But sit down and work out cost of ownership say over 4 years and leasing becomes attractive. Especially if you would need finance to purchase the car.

Depends on what you buying and depreciation but usually leasing is cheaper. Ironically things like high performance sports cars you may be better buying because they often don’t depreciate as quickly percentage wise as your bog standard drive around town.

I paid 3600 quid for a Hyundai i10 2011 plate only 21k on the clock in 2019. It’s been a cracking car so far but with having a family now it is a bit small. Because of the booming 2nd hand car market, I’ve had it valued at the same price on one of those car sites.

Unfortunately leasing charges have gone up a lot this year and thats assuming you can find a car. Second hand car values have gone through the roof as well. Supply issues as with most things these days.

I’ve leased my last few and it’s suited me but now I work from home full time I’m considering not replacing it when the current lease is up. It seems pointless spending hundreds per month for it to be sat on the driveway 99% of the time
