Probably longer then if Dyche had taken him off against Leicester as soon as he got injured instead of waiting for ages and potentially making his injury worse.

The plus is that we're not playing until April 2. So he has time make the bench for the City game.

I was there and it it looked like stupidity, particularly from a manager who is ultra cautious about players playing when not 100% fitthelaughingclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 5:15 pmProbably longer then if Dyche had taken him off against Leicester as soon as he got injured instead of waiting for ages and potentially making his injury worse.

It was deemed just a knock, by the physios. Mee willing to run it off, until he realised he couldn't.
Re: Ben Mee?
The Radio Lancashire commentator yesterday when announcing the teams yesterday mentioned a fracture to the fibula. Could be a while.

I read a few days ago that it was a hairline, fingers crossed it's healed enough in 3 weeks time, city as we all know is a write off, just damage limitation which could prove to be massive in terms of goal difference.

Re: Ben Mee?
Not a silly statement at all. He could literally hardly walk, and Ben telling the physio he's OK is no marker - this is Ben we're talking about. It was a stupid schoolboy error.

We need him back to help turn the 0-2 results into 0-0s. Seriously though a big miss and I really hope he remains with us in the Championship.

SD on Mee's chances of facing City..."I doubt it, there is a chance but it would be a risk and reward scenario that we have had so many times this season. We will wait and see.”
Re: Ben Mee?
I don't think anyone is saying is that it hasn't cost us. What's silly about your statement is saying that it Dyche's fault because he shouldn't have believed Ben when he said he could carry on, that it's Dyche's fault because he shouldn't have believed the physios when they said he could carry on, and that it's Dyche's fault because he should have anticipated the two further fouls.dougcollins wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 6:00 pmNot a silly statement at all. You can correctly argue that every time a player goes down with a contact injury, that injury would have been avoided if the manager had taken him off a minute earlier. But it doesn't follow that the manager made a mistake.

Re: Ben Mee?
You require the manager to be a medical expert now do you? Mee was treated on the pitch after which it was deemed that he was fit to continue. I would expect the manager to take that advice.thelaughingclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 12, 2022 5:15 pmProbably longer then if Dyche had taken him off against Leicester as soon as he got injured instead of waiting for ages and potentially making his injury worse.

Re: Ben Mee?
There’s simply no way of knowing unless you do an X-ray get the results back whilst the game is stopped before it recommences but what some people seem to be saying is that he should have been sacrificed as a precaution.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 5:52 pmYou require the manager to be a medical expert now do you? Thought we all having banter and bigging up Ben's approach to injury and absolute bravery.

It should come as no surprise that having people who know far more about our players than the manager and coaching staff that we also have some who can conduct a medical assessment from either a seat in the stand or at home and know better than the medical team on the pitch.

Re: Ben Mee?
Importantly, as the Everton game is now on the 6th April is there a chance (not touch and go) that he could play in that game?

Re: Ben Mee?
When did I say that I require the manger to be a medical expert? It was obvious watching he wasn’t 100% fit. Maybe you thought he was mobile enough to continue but he clearly wasn’t. Even if he was physically fit enough he was not mobile enough to continue. It is the premier league not Sunday league. Footballers often want to continue when they are injured, it is there nature. Dean Marney wanted to continue after he did his ACL, should Dyche have listened to him? Even though he could barely walk if the physios had said he was in tip top condition should he have played the second half? We have seen physios say a player is ok after a head injury, Keane a few years ago for example, then it transpired he had a concussion. The physios, sorry “medical experts” aren’t always correct. I would expect the manager to use some common sense myself, it didn’t take a medical expert to see Mee was struggling and wasn’t mobile, and if our physios, out medical experts, said he was fit to continue when he really did not look it and it has since transpired he has a cracked fibular then, well, good experts aren’t they!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Mar 14, 2022 5:52 pmYou require the manager to be a medical expert now do you? And yet, the team of medics on the touchline, including doctors and physios thought it was OK that he continued.thelaughingclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:27 amWhen did I say that I require the manger to be a medical expert? It was obvious watching he wasn’t 100% fit.

Football (and I'm not saying it was the case here) does have a big issue with injury assessments and keeping players on the pitch though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 10:21 amAnd yet, the team of medics on the touchline, including doctors and physios thought it was OK that he continued.

Re: Ben Mee?
Because you can’t 100% accurately determine the injuries in fracture cases without X-rays you are pretty much guessing & hoping things can continue it’s only after further examination you know for sure & by then the damage is done or made worse the longer the player plays.

Can't always be picked up on an x-ray, I had a piece of bone floating round my knee that wasn't picked up on x-ray, only when I had an mri scan was it seen.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 12:31 pmBecause you can’t 100% accurately determine the injuries in fracture cases without X-rays you are pretty much guessing & hoping things can continue it’s only after further examination you know for sure & by then the damage is done or made worse the longer the player plays.

Fair enough, but you need some sort of further examination to be sure whether it’s X-rays or MRI scans, you can’t just look at something & have a feel & make a decision based on that, you need specialist equipment & waiting times for results to come through.alwaysaclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 17, 2022 11:37 amCan't always be picked up on an x-ray, I had a piece of bone floating round my knee that wasn't picked up on x-ray, only when I had an mri scan was it seen.

Re: Ben Mee?
Initially I had examination by hospital doctor, who said I just needed physio, after they'd x-rayd, I subsequently attended physio for 5 weeks with exercises including in the pool, my knee was continually swelling until I suggested to physio should I not see someone with it, she said OK and gave me a letter to take to my gp, on seeing my gp he agreed to refer me, when asked how long would it be he said maybe 3 months, my actual words were don't be stupid I'm in constant pain. I suggested I pay private and asked how long, I was seen within 7 days and admitted for arthroscope in under 2 weeks but the consultant said straight away I had cruciate and cartilage damage when he did the obvious test's and had a feel, he subsequently fished out a considerable piece of bone and confirmed he's initial thoughts, make what you will about the diagnosis. Although I do admit Ben will have far better access to the medics.
