Dyche comments on the game

Post by boyyanno » Sat Mar 12, 2022 5:52 pm

Copied from the BBC:

“That’s the story of our season. We were solid, we never really looked in trouble, then we give away a goal. We were not a million miles away but you have to score a goal and that’s not what we’ve done.

“We had a grip on the game, a one v one, hitting the bar, we had good energy, corners and we couldn’t find a goal and they did.

“That’s the realities of the Premier League. We shouldn’t lose that game today. They might have accepted a point.

“Nowadays you touch people in the box and it’ll be given. Why really [give a red card] when it’s that kind of challenge. They’ll say the rules are the rules.

“I’ve learned down the years that’s what happens in the Premier League. You go on a strong run with a confident edge and all of a sudden you lose three. The main thing is stay calm with what we’re doing. We’ve still got games in hand. We’ve got to find goals. That’s been our biggest challenge all season.

"We’ve got to score goals. That’s the biggest challenge from now on. We created enough chances.

“The experience level is right, the energy is right but you have to find the details. We were hoping Maxwel would do better. We’ve not been far off but we haven’t been the right side of it again today.”

Can't believe he's mentioned Cornet there. Has anyone got a link to the interview for context?

why not mention Cornet ? I suspect he was asked "do you think Cornet should have scored"

It was a sunday league finish unfortunately

Dyches post match comments are as predictable as our match performances

I think is comment about energy is spot on.

If anything I thought Brentford looked knackered after 70 mins today

If he’s going to hang a player out to dry publically, by all means say Cornet as he was rubbish (and has been since his return from AFCON), but certainly wasn’t on his own today. Westwood, Weghorst, Taylor, McNeil and the completely out of his depth Roberts should all have been said too.

As it reads it sounds like he's blaming Cornet for the loss.

It would be pretty shameful blaming an individual player for a defeat in which the tactics and team choice were stinking even if he should have scored it.

He may want to single himself out before any player given our disgraceful team selection and style of play.

I was hoping he'd do better.

We did look the better side, but even with few chances Brentford did seem more likely to score.

Would be harsh if he singled Cornet out, especially as he made that chance himself chasing down a back pass. Dwight missed a sitter. Jay's was just a hell of a strike and very unlucky. 10 corners and we didn't look like scoring from any, that for me is the strangest thing for us.

Think Dyche is admitting he’s been hoping Cornet could be the answer up top, and admitting he may need to re-think that. Something more than me has been pointing out, but it means playing two of McNiel, Cornet and Lennon, not all three.

You don't score goals, or not enough, when you play as negatively as we do.
We get the ball on the deck, pass it around, work crosses into the box, have bodies in the box to meet the ball, and we score goals, and we have a chance of winning. We've shown we can do it, and against the best.
Today, the tactics, the energy. the composure, were all missing, again, and we got what we deserved.
I would rather SD came up with that conclusion, because if he can't see it, he isn't going to change it. If he doesn't change it we are doomed. You don't stay up, and don't deserve to stay up. playing that way.
Instead of putting pressure on Brentford, we just put pressure on ourselves.

Agree to a certain extent but if Cornet took one of his chances we would have had the 3 points

Details eh? Can’t start finding them TWENTY SEVEN games in to the season.

Here’s a reality for you Dyche: you dropped players from a winning team.

“We’ve got to score goals. That’s the biggest challenge from now on. We created enough chances.”

I don’t think we did create enough chances. Whoever is up front is feeding off scraps, really poorly delivered scraps.

Dyche has to see that the way we are setting up and / or the personnel being used is strangling our supply.

Im fed up of hearing about fine margins, however true it may be. The problem is we are always on the wrong side of these fine margins and simply repeating the same things isn’t changing that.

That was yet another game where the opposition was there for the taking but we deliver a lacklustre performance. We shoot ourselves in the foot week after week and that strong jaw is looking like glass!

If you don't score you don't win.
We've won three games all season.
No side in England or Scotland has done worse.

Dyche has to take responsibility for how we're playing and the results, but we just aren't taking our chances, the very few we make, and some of that's on the players. McNeil has missed two easy chances in the last two games and Cornet today, well... Not sure what he was trying to do. I know it's easier said from the sofa but surely in that situation you either try to pot it in the corner or lift it over the oncoming keeper. Instead what he did was all sorts of limp and lazy.

Too many players are bottling it.

Don’t think that’s in context. Would like to hear it - dyche isn’t one to single out players. I presume he would have been asked a question and will have been talking about Max doing better with the chance.

Only one team has scored less goals than us all season
We are the lowest scoring team at home (level with others)
But the guys up front need the service to help them score and our midfield are quite frankly woeful in that area

He can single out whatever player he wants, because for happy clappers will accept whatever he says.

Absolutely. Never, ever takes any responsibility, even collective, or offers any hope he might reflect and change things. Just reels out the same old cliches.

Dyche is as guilty as anyone as to why we lost that game today.

Man up for crying out loud and admit you got it wrong.

I'm not entirely sure it is. He's asked about Cornet but doesn't answer in his immediate comment, but then brings up the wasted opportunities from both Cornet and McNeil in response to another, separate question.

Either way, it's worrying that he genuinely believes that we're doing things right but just not finding the finish. Every man and his dog can see that the way we played today was completely unacceptable. Just aimless hoofs with no thought to keep hold of the ball for a bit.

so he's mentioning facts that happened during the game and didn't single Cornet out at all. Mentioned at least 3 or 4 players in the interview

edit: you don't need to talk to me about hoofball, I'm sick of mentioning it on here, our patterns of play when Westwood plays are dire
