Red card.

Post by Bullabill » Sun Mar 13, 2022 9:42 am

Collins' card was surely not for violent conduct so, presumably, it was for denying a goal scoring opportunity. I was under the impression that if a penalty resulted, dismissal was not required (goal scoring opportunity still exists).

I believe that only applies if you attempt to win the ball. I don't believe Collins did.

Pen for sure. 50-50 on the sending off.

Based on the laws of the games as per below it was a definite red card

DENYING A GOAL OR AN OBVIOUS GOAL-SCORING OPPORTUNITY

Where a player denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by a handball offence the player is sent off wherever the offence occurs.

Where a player commits an offence against an opponent within their own penalty area which denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and the referee awards a penalty kick, the offending player is cautioned if the offence was an attempt to play the ball; in all other circumstances (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing, no possibility to play the ball etc.) the offending player must be sent off.

Clear penalty but also he's clearly challenged for the ball so it shouldn't be a sending off. He doesn't get anywhere near it but the intent is there.

He didn't challenge for the ball. He pushed him in the back. No intent to play the ball at all.

Not sure about that, he's putting pressure on the attacker and challenging him. It's not like he's kicked his legs out from under him. Clear penalty, but not a red card for me.

He very clearly sticks his right leg in, in an attempt to get the ball. He gets nowhere near it and bundles Toney over. Clear foul but not a red card, according to the law.

A little unfair when you consider the perspective - he's fourth choice and more often than not hasn't let us down when he's had to come in from the cold and play.

He certainly did, after making up a lot of ground to catch Toney. There was a coming together and a penalty was correct, however, how Tierney saw that as a red card is beyond me, although, much that happens in the modern game is a mystery to me.

If we can't even agree on that being a red card and penalty as fans, then how can we expect referees to be consistent?

Lee Mason on VAR.We will never ever get anything in the history of football from him.he is so consistant and bad against us.Arsenal etc.he hates us with a passion.loving where we are now.on the pitch he is worse!

Absolutely agree with this - it feels this season like any “in the refs opinion” decision has needed to be made then any chance to give it against us has been taken.

I feel there's more than ineptitude behind Tierney's decisions when it comes to Burnley. It all started at Huddersfield.
