Looking at the table now...discounting the City game already...the Everton game is really last chance saloon. Fail to win that and there really can be no way back barring a remarkable turnaround in form.

The irony is, it was yet another Leeds defensive error that cost Wolves the game. We are getting no luck, the only vague luck affecting 3 points was Kane hitting the bar. Not so much the Norwich game, but last night and tonight Everton and Leeds were getting hammered.

It will be very, very hard to keep strong minds now, on and off the pitch.

The problem never has been the number of goals we've scored. It's when we've conceded that's killed us this season.

You should always be capable of winning games 1-0, but far too many times this season we've let a lead slip. And even when we haven't scored we should have seen out the Brentford & Leicester games.

Agree, but Leicester did it with Pearson. They went gung ho for the last nine games and it paid off.
Dyche needs to go out with all guns blazing.
Completely different situation. A group of core players all considerably younger about to reach the peak of there careers.

Our squad is the oldest in the league with half of them out of contract in three months.

If we are being realistic it will be challenge to get to 30 points

Teams at the bottom all tried to do everything they could even changing their manager - Norwich, Watford, Newcastle, Leeds and Everton - 2 of that list sacked their manager after a win !!!!!!! We have a awful record this season backed up by some awful performances. I am not a SD hater but amazed if his position is not looked at.

Take a bow Kevin Friend

Can't rely on other teams dropping points, but you should be able to rely on impartial referees being consistent.

We were down after Newcastle away IMO.
You can't churn out the amount of lack lustre no fight performances we have and survive.
We have zero fight, very little quality, can't score, and started to leak sloppy goals, it's a recipe for disaster.

It's sad to say that, this season, we have been nowhere near the quality of either of these two sides.

At the risk of banging the same old drum, the lack of investment has come back to bite us in the bum
this season.

Ultimately, no matter how much you spend in the Prem, every team bar a handful, WILL get relegated sooner rather than later.

The problem is we have had a number of games against relegation rivals that were seen as 'must win' this season and we haven't won any of them. Many of these games saw us putting in pathetic toothless performances.

Norwich (h)
Newcastle (a)
Leeds (a)
Watford (h)
Brentford (a)

We can get out of this but going off our big game performances this season, we have shown no sign of turning it on when it's most needed.

To win a lottery you have to buy a ticket, we errm and arr at the counter and hold onto our 2 pounds. In football terms we hang back, we defend from the front instead of attacking from midfield.
We are going down but sadly with a whimper blaming the post, crossbar, the ref,VAR, covid, time wasters, lack of money, injuries, bad weather, lack of atmosphere etc etc etc. In the cold light of day we are awful we really don't deserve to be anywhere near an elite league when all we do is in essence tw@t it forward and hope for a flick or header on whilst hanging back to defend.

The record has nothing to do with Leeds scoring in stoppage time but another poster who just can't wait to have a go. Of course we wanted Wolves to win but there's nothing we can do about what's happened. It's as if some on this board just can't wait for us to go down so they can tell us that they told us so.

Not a Burnley team anyway. We got away with it for a surprising long amount of time winning 1-0. There are numerous examples of games over the years where those 1-0's could easily have been draws or losses.

We've been shite for a while now and of course with plenty of other factors included, we've been found out.

Looking forward to next year - whatever division we are in

JBG, Long, Lowton, Hennessey, Westwood, Norris still under contract

Most likely Jay, Cork, Pieters, Barnes and Lennon could be offered new deals

If so, that would make 13 of our 25 man squad over 30 next year (Pope and Wout also turn 30 next season)

Assuming Tarks, Mee, Vydra, Bardsley and Stephens, will be gone - and they would all be all at least over 30 next season anyway

That totals 16 of our current squad of 25+

And people wonder why we have struggled this season

Building for the future Sean ?

That’s true in a sense, I agree that life is about putting yourself in a situation where a coin toss and something great might happen, it’s definitely the case in football. I’ve long been in the camp of saying Dyche is way too risk averse.

However, luck plays a wider part too, and I maintain we have had little. That sending off tonight and then the two goals hitting the posts and ricocheting back to the attacker, defenders jumping under the ball, keepers flying out and missing the ball. That’s luck. As was Jay’s shot off the underside at Brentford.

We can’t rely on luck though. If we go down, I tend to think it is for good. So we really need to go for goals and make sure we get them. We have the players to score them if they get a bit of confidence.

And yet we'd scored less at this stage of the season in 2017/18 when we were on our way to Europe. The lack of goals didn't kill us then so why is it now?

Depending on other teams results at this stage of the season is obscene.

The current bottom three are gone.

That’s a cast iron, double hard fact.

Anyone who doubts it can put their money where their superfan mouths are. …..

Are you suggesting that we've ridden our luck for so long with all those 1-0 results and clean sheets and that was nothing to do with being very well organised?

Remember when we beat Liverpool 2-0 with 18% of the ball, yet they barely had a chance on goal?

I think CT recently pointed out that we'd scored as many goals at this stage of the season as we had done when we finished 7th. The key for a well drilled Burnley side was always the ability to see a game out, something that's been sadly lacking this season.

One of the problems has been that we don't get that many chances, never mind easy one's.

But definitely should haven had at least 2 goals against Brentford. Which at the time of those chances, would have no doubt won us the game.

We have lost more points from winning positions than we ever have in the Premier League. That’s defence.

I take your point, we have conceded about 30 goals fewer than Leeds, but it isn’t how many we concede, its when we have conceded them, and against whom.

You can't expect your keeper and back 4 to keep a clean sheet every week at this level, it's just not realistic. How many times have we all come off the Turf thinking "how the hell did we win that"?
As Sean likes to say, it's fine margins, so you can't really complain if they start to go against you.

Lack of goals has been a huge factor this season together with not converting many good chances that you know at the time will cost us dearly.

And yet we'd scored less at this stage of the season in 2017/18 when we were on our way to Europe. The lack of goals didn't kill us then so why is it now?
I don't know Tony, but we obviously haven't scored enough, or we wouldn't be where we are now.

Got to begrudgingly admire Leeds tonight. Yes the sending off changed things but fair play to them for scoring 3 second half goals and coming away with the win. It's not over, but I think they have Saints at home the day we play City. The massive disaster was Brentford as I think they were our only realistic hope of dragging somebody down into the fight..

Conceding late goals against Leeds, Leicester (twice) & Brentford would never have happened in previous seasons.

I actually thought we'd turned a corner after Arsenal away & then Spurs at home.

And just to cap this season off - bastards will get promoted.
Now that isn’t going to happen. They have started to implode. Tenth place finish for them, trust me. A local Derby beckons but I won’t be going to Ewood on some crummy old 1980’s double decker.
