Potential theft of £4!
I’ve just been to Tesco in Padiham and there were a couple of people hanging around the queue for the self service. They were just standing around with a bottle of coke in a trolley. Anyway, as I walked by them to get to the self checkout, I’m sure I heard her say bye and then something which sounded like my last name. Thought nothing of it and presumed they were talking to someone else. As I’ve got back to my car, I noticed my phone banking had sent me 2 notifications of payments, one was the one I did at the self checkout and there was one for £4 which was taken out one minute before. I clicked into it and it says Tesco and looks identical to the genuine payment. Is it possible that they took the cash and somehow had a machine which makes it look like it’s gone to Tesco?!
I know this sounds ridiculous over £4, but do I have to contact the police or my bank? If it was those two, then god knows how many people they’ve taken cash from.

Not sure of the technicalities but I would report it to the police and ask them to check the CCTV in the store .

Sometimes, I think these self checkouts take a nominal amount as well the money you are spending to check if you have enough funds or something. It might get refunded

Sometimes a till won't register the first payment and take it again.
Keep an eye on it, if it's an error it takes 5-7 days for it to be put back into your bank.
I've had that happen before at my local co-op

Cheers for the replies. The thing about a duplicate payment is it’s for a completely different amount. It’s probably nothing, maybe just a delay in another Tesco payment pinging through to my app or something, just seemed a bit weird.

If it were me I’d get in touch with my bank.
£4 now - what might it be next time?

I’d probably not do anything for the sake of £4
Re: Potential theft of £4!
I would without hesitation contact my bank now. An delay might cause you further issues down the line.
Re: Potential theft of £4!
I recently paid a taxi driver with a 20 pound note for a 7 pound fare. He gave me 13 pound change. When I got into my house I opened my wallet to put the change inside and realised that I must have given him two 20 pound notes. Those little plastic buggers stick together alright.
I just hope he hadn’t noticed either for my faith in humanity but yes there are some devious sods about.

When you get notes out of an atm, screw them all up individually is the top tip to prevent that

Re: Potential theft of £4!
I wonder if you've somehow paid the bill for whoever was on the self-checkout till before you? No idea how it would happen. Did you collect your paper receipt? (I know a lot don't bother). Is there another receipt there also for £4?up_the_clarets_1989 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 31, 2022 5:43 pmI’ve just been to Tesco in Padiham and there were a couple of people hanging around the queue for the self service. I'd speak with Tesco in the first place. They may also be interested in what had occurred. If you think someone has access to your device then maybe need to have a word with your bank/credit card provider. It's only £4 this time and it may never happen again, but, there again...
Good luck.

I saw them too, wondered what they were doing, they didn't want to join the payment queue when someone offered, looked a bit 'obvious' but will check bank in the morning.
Re: Potential theft of £4!
Contact your bank ! Sometimes a smaller amount is taken then it grows . Like TFL on the tube of local buses.
