I can’t be the only one today
That’s finding it incredibly difficult to get excited about todays match and even considering not attending, simply because we know what’s going to happen and can find better things to fill my time with instead of watching hoofball and rolling over yet again for City.

f you think we play hoofball then I suggest you might be better off finding other things to do every match day.

If people's predictions of being relegated are true, then let's all attend every game between now and May and just savour each moment of being in the Premier League because who knows when it could happen again.

Re: I can’t be the only one today
Absolutely spot on, seems some can't quite cope with or understand that for a club like ours to achieve six successive seasons in this league is a remarkable achievement. It's a difficult game today but if this season is to be the last then I'll savour every last minute of it.claretburns wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:09 amIf people's predictions of being relegated are true, then let's all attend every game between now and May and just savour each moment of being in the Premier League because who knows when it could happen again.

According to the thread about football styles that GodisaDJ has posted. Our average passing sequence is 2.3 passes.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:08 amf you think we play hoofball then I suggest you might be better off finding other things to do every match day.
Seems incredibly low, even if we were a hoof ball team.
I would describe us more as a team that passes to areas rather than passing to players which makes it easy for the receiver.

It’s strange because when we got promoted it was the games against United, City, Liverpool etc I was really looking forward to.

City no, particularly at the Etihad, but I still really enjoy the others. Trying to compete with the likes of United and Liverpool, which we did so well recently in those two home games, is what I'll miss the most should we go down.Bordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:27 amIt’s strange because when we got promoted it was the games against United, City, Liverpool etc I was really looking forward to.

It's more fun when we win, plus after a few years the novelty of playing the big boys will always wear off. When you first get promoted there's huge excitement about seeing all the big names down at the Turf.

And that, fundamentaly, is why we get all the 'hoofball' type of stuff on here now, because we are not winning enough games.

Re: I can’t be the only one today
It's a bit of a forlorn hope, but they play Atletico Madrid on Tuesday, then Liverpool a week tomorrow in that blockbuster, so just maybe they'll lack a wee bit of concentration today.
There's no disgrace in losing to them, just as long as we don't get mullered.
But I doubt it.

Re: I can’t be the only one today
I think hoofball has always been around to be fair, not just when we don't win, though maybe it will come up more. For example, at Brentford, we decided to hoof it quite frequently despite Weghorst winning nothing all game. Whereas at Brighton we played the 'mixed football' that Dyche says he wants and funnily enough won comfortably.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:39 amAnd that, fundamentaly, is why we get all the 'hoofball' type of stuff on here now, because we are not winning enough games.

Re: I can’t be the only one today
For a start, they are the best team in the country. Only a point ahead of Liverpool, whose style suits us more, but head and shoulders better than the rest. We've been good enough to take points off the other four from the big six this season. City are in a different league to the likes of Arsenal and Man U.

When players from fashionable teams hit a long ball, it's referred to as a long pass.

Let’s stop being pedantic. We are a long ball (hoof ball) team, the suggestions that we were never called this when we were winning is just ridiculous.
Take the blindfolds off people. It’s not a bad thing it’s been very effective for us for over the years.

Not at all. Watch MOTD or sky or any football programme where they do the analysis. A centre half from, say Liverpool, will hit a long ball and fail to find a team mate. The said pundit will then say "the long pass didn't come off on that occasion".

I think it's more the case that sensitive Burnley fans who don't like hearing about hoofball don't want to differentiate between a top team playing a ball 60 yards into a forward's feet and Nick Pope kicking it in the general direction of anyone tall in a claret shirt.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:57 amWhen players from fashionable teams hit a long ball, it's referred to as a long pass.

Re: I can’t be the only one today
Yeah, Van Dijk has an unreal passing range and often looks for a long diagonal to Salah on the right. Not always. It’s a useful, different way for them to break down a low block. That’s a long pass. Mee / Collins / Tark receiving the ball with no pressure on them and choosing to hit a long ball to the head of a big 6 foot 6 striker for the hope of a flick has always been known as ‘long ball football’.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 12:03 pmNot at all. Re: I can’t be the only one today
There is some truth in that. I don't think it's a coincidence that when we're winning games and on a decent run, we do tend to play with more confidence, and as a result we play some decent stuff at times. The flip side being when we're stuck in a rut and confidence is low, we revert to a more direct and safer style of play, which is much less attractive.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Apr 02, 2022 11:39 amAnd that, fundamentaly, is why we get all the 'hoofball' type of stuff on here now, because we are not winning enough games.
Swings and roundabouts, but I'm convinced a lot of it boils down to confidence.

Re: I can’t be the only one today
We are a side that relies on very little possession and have few players who can play an incisive pass or beat their men. At our best we converted a very high percentage of our chances, now we don’t. We are not a great passing side.
