Re: Dale Stephens Incident
When I posted this thread I thought there had been an incident at the ground last Saturday - not sure the club have ever made a similar statement when anything like this has happened. Did the club comment when Ashley Barnes was found guilty of a similar offence last year?

Did they put out a statement like that for Barnes?
They way this was worded it felt more “serious” than that

****. **** player as well.
Sack him - literally nobody wants him here.
59mg as well, that’s a huge amount. I know people who have felt absolutely ****** and blown under. Drink driving is ridiculous though in any circumstances.

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
There are few things I deplore more than drink drivers. I don't care if you're Dale Stephens or Ashley Barnes, it's inexcusable and one of the most selfish, irresponsible things you can possibly do.

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
Legal limit 35mg - Stephens at 59mg
Back in 1992
Legal limit 35mg - Jimmy Mullen at 146mg, and the club supported him in the courts rather than condemn him.
I will never condone drink/driving in anyway shape or form.

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
How do they calculate the fine? I’ve seen many of these cases where the driver was at least twice, sometimes three times over the limit and they’ve not received a fine of that amount, perhaps it’s earnings related. Stephens like Barnes earns enough money to either get a taxi or a driver. I have no sympathy for either of them.
Re: Dale Stephens Incident
Shouldn't be treated any differently to Barnes. If he wasn't sacked (which he should have been), then I don't see how Stephens can be.

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
I think he should be sacked but (with no legal training or knowledge) I guess we'd be on dodgy grounds to do so given we didn't with Barnes who had a bigger punishment from the courts for the same thing. And probably not worth any potential hassle given he's obviously off in the summer anyway.
Horrible, horrible behaviour though.

Don't know but Barnes was fined almost £14,000.beddie wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 2:02 pmHow do they calculate the fine? Re: Dale Stephens Incident
He blew 59 so that puts it in the very lowest category of the sentencing guidelines. Just. He could have got between 12-16 months.
It looks like has pleaded guilty at the first opportunity so he would get a 30 percent discount for an early guilty plea
The 30 percent discount is for fine only and not the length of disqualification. Hes done well to get 12 months as he will also get offered the DDAC.
He would get fined either a band B or band C fine
To assist with that see the following and minus the 30 percent for an early guilty plea
Fine Band B 100% of relevant weekly income 75 – 125% of relevant weekly income
Fine Band C 150% of relevant weekly income 125 – 175% of relevant weekly income

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
To have a squad of 25 and the two of them get convicted for serious drink driving within a season is DISGUSTING. Shame on the two players. If ever I go for a curry with my mates a half lager or shandy is my lot, but even then I am conscious of it.

Does this latest conviction point to bigger discipline problems within the club, possibly even a sign that the ‘Burnley mentality’ no longer means fierce discipline and a siege mentality?

It's a low point for the club having 2 drink drivers in the first team squad.
Re: Dale Stephens Incident
Watching us this season I get the feeling the will to "run through a brick wall" for Dyche is no longer there. The squad has been allowed to become stale, and too many of them know they're off this summer no matter what.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 2:39 pmDoes this latest conviction point to bigger discipline problems within the club, possibly even a sign that the ‘Burnley mentality’ no longer means fierce discipline and a siege mentality?

It certainly doesn't help. It's hard to shake the feeling that there's something rotten at the club at the minute, and incidents like these just make it worse.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 2:39 pmDoes this latest conviction point to bigger discipline problems within the club, possibly even a sign that the ‘Burnley mentality’ no longer means fierce discipline and a siege mentality?

Daft really it’s not as if they can’t afford taxis money he’ll be on he could technically afford a chauffeur to be on standby at all times, hope some sort of in-house education is offered as it’s clearly becoming a problem within the club not that grown men should need it.

What I don’t get is taxis are so easy to get and players have so much money they could have waiting to take them home.
It’s not even like it’s expensive for them.
There is no excuse not to ring one.

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
I thought any athlete worthy of the name didn't or shouldn't consume alcohol for fitness reasons:
https://super.stanford.edu/alcohol-drug ... erformance
To me it illustrates a cavalier attitude to their profession.
What are the club rules, if any, regarding alcohol?

Re: Dale Stephens Incident
Jose Mourinho was the magistrate that day if Stephens has got the going rate
in reality the fine from the courts should be at least a months wages from the defendant (I can see arguments for multiples of that) to get the message across as to the utter seriousness of the offence

A friend of ours was killed by a drink-driving, selfish scumbag. I feel sick that in some way a bit of my money goes into his (Stephens) pocket. I feel the same way regarding Barnes.

I'm no mathematician but i think he must be on about 17.5k to 20k a week to get the fine he has received
