It’s as simple as this…
Win we might stay up
Draw we probably won’t stay up
Lose we are down.
Up the Clarets
(Oh and please play it on the deck to Weghorst)

Re: It’s as simple as this…
That’s a fair assessment but whatever the result the fact that there’s 1 less game to be played meaning our potential points tally will have changed will be reflected in the odds adjustments, some people seem to have the idea that games can pass by without any sort of accountability in reflection to the odds.CoolClaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 1:23 pmWin we might stay up

The odds won't make any difference to whether we stay up or not.

Just for the love of god have a go at them and play some football. If we lose then fair enough, but at least have a go, give the fans something to get behind tonight, a reason to believe, stop this just hoofing it forward, and Westwood with the pointless blind chips to no one in particular. We have a go and the Turf will get behind the lads.

They won’t to be fair nobody said there would, there’s only 1 thing which can do that & that’s us winning the required number of games & even if we beat Everton tonight & win all our remaining games we still need Everton to draw at least 1 of their games if they win all their rest after tonight. That scenario is extremely unlikely anyhow. Odds are just an indicator of a likelihood of something happening or not happening nothing more & nothing less.

Can someone tell Westwood that Wood left in January, and is now getting his chips from Shelveybuzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 2:02 pmJust for the love of god have a go at them and play some football. Don’t underestimate Everton. Yes they are struggling but Richarlison DCL and especially Gordon ( if he plays ) need max respect.
Cornet is our only player with a half decent scoring record this season and must start. I agree with the OP s take on today’s result. Lose and it’s season over

Normally I'd feel like Everton will try to sit back and defend like Crystal Palace did knowing they will stay ahead with just a point.. but when you look at their remaining fixtures if they don't beat us, who are they going to beat?

Re: It’s as simple as this…
Mathematically no, but fail to win this and it's hard to see how we survive.
And as much as all the focus is naturally on catching Everton, it's worth pointing out that Watford are still more than capable of finishing above both Burnley and Everton, and also still have to play both at home, so Hodgson will be watching intently tonight no doubt.

It’s a must not lose game. We have others we can win but Everton have it a lot tougher. Then there’s Watford to consider

We are due a 97th minute scrambled winner.
Not since we beat Old Etonians on this day in 1894 has so much been a deciding factor in a relegation battle.

Re: It’s as simple as this…
Everton will be more than happy with a point so will be hard to break down. Towering header from Aaron Lennon in the 92nd minute to nick it ?
Re: It’s as simple as this…
Its not the "Odds" that matter ... I'll even lay 10-1 on thatJakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 1:29 pmThat’s a fair assessment but whatever the result the fact that there’s 1 less game to be played meaning our potential points tally will have changed will be reflected in the odds adjustments, some people seem to have the idea that games can pass by without any sort of accountability in reflection to the odds.

Re: It’s as simple as this…
Four points between tonight and Norwich is an absolute minimum, with the win coming tonight, thus depriving Everton of any points.
Failure to achieve this, and where the points to survive will come from is difficult to see.
So it can't be any less than the fabled "maximum effort" tonight. And then some.

Re: It’s as simple as this…
Not entirely true. We win tonight and both win all our remaining games then Leeds go down so it doesn't matter what Everton do. I know it won't happen BTW.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 2:27 pmThey won’t to be fair nobody said there would, there’s only 1 thing which can do that & that’s us winning the required number of games & even if we beat Everton tonight & win all our remaining games we still need Everton to draw at least 1 of their games if they win all their rest after tonight. Re: It’s as simple as this…
I agree I was trying to do it without factoring any other teams apart from tonight’s opponents without complicating things, mathematically anybody from palace down on 37 could be relegated, obviously it’s daft I think to consider anybody above Leeds to be in threat due to the ground that would have to made up.

Yeah like SD to be entirely truthful. He’s just publicly keeping the pressure of the lads by telling little porkies.claretandy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 4:57 pm"Not season deciding" according to SD, i'll have a pint of what he's on...
Re: It’s as simple as this…
Personally, I don't think a draw is a disaster, a defeat makes things very hard, a win and Everton will be in disarray.
Hope to hear chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' directed towards Lampard tonight

Re: It’s as simple as this…
I just wish sometimes he'd come out looking fired up to these interviews and reply, " absolutely it's a must win, I know that and I've drummed it home to the players". Sometimes I feel in these massive defining games, Newcastle away, Leeds away etc we seem as if we have a " it's not the end of the world attitude if we don't win", where the opposition have exactly the opposite, and we produce the nothingness of a performance to match.claretandy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 4:57 pm"Not season deciding" according to SD, i'll have a pint of what he's on...
This is a must win, as is Sunday..I want to see those lads running through brick walls tonight for this club and out battle Everton, and then hopefully take a couple of chances...UTC

Re: It’s as simple as this…
Amazed anyone can say it’s not must win. It absolutely is.
I hope the players believe it is too. None of this ‘oh a point wouldn’t be bad’ - the manager and team need to be approaching this as the must win shoot out that it is with the passion, blood and thunder required.
