Maybe if he played in a team that was more on his level instead of a hoofball side. We are pathetic under this current management. He’s kept a hold of a squad and let it rot away.

You lot seriously calling him out? Have you a clue? What has he and Jay (equally as useless) been able to feed off? That approach play is utter garbage

Harsh to single him out. Struggling tonight but obviously a good player needing more from those around him.

Re: Weghorst
There have been worse than him but he’s been very poor. It’s a question of whether he’s better than it appears but doesn’t suit Dyche’s style (in which case poor signing), or is simply not good enough.DAVETHEVICAR wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 8:21 pmA scapegoat and others are far poorer tonight than him
One thing is for sure, he certainly isn’t a target man.

Can’t blame wout. The midfield is genuinely not there. They are somehow too high when we defend and too deep when we attack. Absolute shite apart from first 15 ish mins.

Re: Weghorst
You wonder if we really scouted him. Or did we just think "he's tall, scores goals in the German league, plays for Holland...
He'll do for the way we play.
He'll do for the way we play.
Re: Weghorst
Yeah he doesn't fit our style of play at all and I don't care how tall he is, he can't header a ball. If you play into his feet, he rarely loses the ball and lays it off really well. 2 or 3 times tonight he's alive in the 6 yard box for the cut back and the ball doesn't reach him. Wout and Jay had 0 shots between them (the Jay goal aside), they just aren't supplied well enough often enough.

So why play hoofball ?
As bad a first half as seen all season from both sides

If Chris Wood was doing what he is doing at thee moment he would be getting double pelters.
Early days as this league is a lot gaster than he is used to. But even when played to him he's struggling to control it at the mo. It's not just "hitting it long to jim" either

Re: Weghorst
The first half was fine until Westwood’s moment of stupidity. It was oh so typical - have a team on the ropes and then hand the momentum to the opposition.
I said it after City, and I’ll repeat it again after tonight, Weghorst does not look happy. There’s a player in there but we’ve got to learn to involve him effectively.

I believe he was 2nd top goal scorer in Germany to Lewandowski when we signed him - so he can't be that bad if you play to his strengths

Definitely wasn't happy when he came off. Grabbed his jumper and stomped down to the far end of the dugout away from everybody.

Bang on, Bigvince.
I was stupid to open the thread.
I mean, damn it, we won a game we absolutely had to win.2-1 down (two penalties, you know those things we never get given) and we manage to win.
We have a colossal challenge on our hands but when you show you CAN actually win a match and against the team above you, you just take it and savour it.
Don't you?

I don't always agree with your comments and have criticised you in the past. I think you are very astute here. For Jay's goal, he was available making a great run. I think he has great touches and plays people in very well. We've not gelled with him yet but he is a much better player than some people on here can see.KRBFC wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 10:02 pmYeah he doesn't fit our style of play at all and I don't care how tall he is, he can't header a ball. Go away. Got a 1 in 2 games record. He needs the ball to his feet. He contributed to the 2nd goal by drawing the Everton defence to him.

Not a "Target Man'" in the sense of how we play. However he needs to adjust and be stronger in looking after the ball when it comes to him.
Needs time to adjust. But the question is do we have that time this season?

Wtf does that mean? He’s 6’6” so we wallop it into the air? He’s technically excellent and you want to negate that by thumping high balls into the box because he’s tall?

Technically very good indeed and probably better than all the other players with the ball at their feet, works his swingers off all over the pitch, even out wide because he’s making up for others and you wanna give him ****?

Astonishing to pick him out for criticism.
No chances for him tonight so he made chances for others, was exceptional in midfield and his defensive work was outstanding. A real team player who gives 100%

I like him. Works hard. Good footballer. We just need to get the ball into his feet more.
Great movement to find space which would have resulted in a tap in with a better cross from Collins

Not the player we thought he was. Probably better. A technician. Not suited to our current set up unfortunately whereby we manage to pass the ball correctly and get moves right only in patches. Most of the time the ball is all over the place.

Re: Weghorst
We don’t play to his strengths but I was never convinced he would score that many. He’s not a target man and looks better deeper Technically good but he’s playing in a much faster league which can take some adjusting to.
Re: Weghorst
Looks good with the ball at his chest or feet, the sort of striker who needs players running off him. Looks poor in the air so doesn't quite fit with the current tactics.
Because of how deep he currently drops, probably due to our weaknesses in midfield, we've either given possession away or made the cross by the time he's made it back to the box.
We need to strengthen in the centre so Weghorst can get further forward.
I think Vydra would be an interesting partner for him, someone with a bit of pace he can slip in.
I'm wondering if we should revert to Jay and Vydra starting for the remainder of the season and have a pre season next year to figure out where Weghorst fits and hopefully get some players in to compliment him.

We’ve disagreed on a few things recently (namely Jack Cork) but this I concur with wholeheartedly. Give him the ball chest down and he’s excellent. We’re currently playing to his biggest weakness. He’s a very clever player with balls to feet.

During that mini hot streak we played into his feet more. He was really really effective.
Great result today but the performance wasn’t at the levels of the other month. Hopefully we’ll get back there. I’m still pretty confident he will be an incredibly important player for us.

We’re teetering on a knife edge. Go down, we likely lose Cornet and Wout. Stay up, we likely bring in better central midfield quality and build an evolving team around the aforementioned duo.Indecisive wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 12:28 amDuring that mini hot streak we played into his feet more. Weghorst is quality, just as Lukaku is quality, but if you don't play to their strengths then you are hanging them out to dry. These is nothing wrong with Wout, just the way we play. He'll continue to look poor until we change our style, only he isn't poor, only our football is.

Yes one player can score goals in this league and the other is yet to be seen.
Weghorst is far too slow he’s never going to score regularly in this league.
