How many points will we get this season ?

Post by FCBurnley » Thu Apr 07, 2022 2:38 pm

I’m going for an optimistic 37 which might be enough to keep us up but who knows in this crazy season

34, 2 wins, 4 draws, 3 losses, just enough to stay up.

As long as it's one more than the team in 18th I don't care.

It would be great to emulate Leicester's last 9 games in 2014/15.
After 29 matches they were rooted to bottom spot having won 4, drawn 7, lost 18, scored 27 and against 48 with 19 points.
They finished the season in 14th place having won 7, drawn 1 and lost 1 of their last 9 games, scoring 19 with 7 against and picked up 22 points to give them 41 for the season.
We can but hope!

Based on the same level of points per game as the games already played the bottom of the table will end as:
Leeds 36.77
Everton 32.76
Burnley 31.45
Watford 27.87
Norwich 22.8

9 more points gets us to 33 and could be enough. Wins against Watford and Norwich and 3 draws from the other 7 games would get us there.
If we don't get to 33 points then we don't deserve to stay up. I would hope that we can get 36 points and hopefully not need anything on the last day of the season. It's still very much in our hands and we've got the players to do it. If we get Ben Mee back I can't help thinking that it'll be a lot easier but we've still got enough about us to get the results that we need without him.

I think we can get to 34/35 and that would give us a reasonable chance of survival. Fingers tightly crossed for 36/7 and comparative safety.

I feel like we need 4 wins or 3 wins and maybe 3 draws. 9 to go. It is possible. Beat Norwich and Watford and things look good but it isn’t that easy. Important couple of games now. I feel like it is too little too late at the moment. Hope I am wrong. I just feel like Everton, Leeds and Watford too will get a few good results when other teams are on the beach towards the end.

I’m thinking another 8 or so points which might not be enough.

If we get to 36/37 points I believe right now it’ll likely be enough as one of the clubs above us will have a horrendous run in of results. It’s still a tall ask though, and I am not sure we’ll get more than 33.

Ask against after the Norwich game. :D

As long as we get one more point than Everton and the same as Watford
then we should be safe even though it might be goal difference that keeps us up.

Enough hopefully and 35 should suffice I'd think, which if we can maintain our form over the past 9 matches is definitely possible, also depends who we get the points against, and if we can inflict serious damage on our main rivals all the better for us.

Im with you Burnley FC i can see a lot of draws but maybe not the wins we hope for, it then depends on what others do. Its very hard to predict we may get more away at West Ham than we get at home to Wolves, but the result last night has to give the team a big lift.

I’d be surprised if 35 wasn’t enough.

One more than Everton over the next nine games. Looking at their fixtures against ours very possible.

Win at Norwich and at least draw at Watford. Hope its settled by the last game but if we need something from a safe Newcastle we will get it

21 more points , Everton and Leeds have hard run ins, but they are all hard if you don't win your games, we will win 7 draw 1 lose 1.

Maths my friend ... 7 x 3 = 21 +1 = 22 😉

On the number of games remaining we have 9 left, Watford have 8 & Everton 9 matches to play.

Looking at the form guide based on the previous number of games:

Burnley 10 pts from previous 9 games.
Watford 7 pts from previous 8 games.
Everton 6 pts from previous 9 games.

Based on current form we'd stop up with 34 pts, Everton would have 31 pts & Watford 29 points.

Blimey! I never knew Everton's form was so bad, and if they hadn't nicked that IT winner against Newcastle it would be even grimmer for them.

Worth noting that in those 9 games we played Chelsea, City & Liverpool as well, so now we've got our toughest fixtures out of the way every possibility that we can at least maintain that form over the rest of the season.

And don't forget Watford & Everton also play each other, so one or both will drop points come what may in that match.

Effectively it's an 8/9 game shoot-out between those 3, others may yet get dragged back in, but I sense it'll be 2 from those 3, Norwich are probably already gone, and if we go to Carrow Road and bag all 3 points that'll just about seal their fate.

What Wednesday's victory has done is ensure we have it entirely in our own hands, and after the 1st half of the season we endured I'll settle for that.

It's also worth looking at the managerial bounce of both Roy Hodgson & Frank Lampard:

Watford have taken 8 points from 10 matches since Hodgson took over.
Everton have taken 6 points from 9 matches since Lampard took over.

We also had Spurs and Man Utd as well, OK we won Spurs but it was another top 4 contender.

Of even more relevance was that all five were at home. That didn’t give us much scope to win many more points, yet we did.

We’re not as bad as some make out, but we still have to do it from now.
