They put around £20 million per annum into the club, which is a small amount for people that own a $billion company.

I would think the Venky's would consider it money well spent if the club manages to get into the Premiership and the kind of global PR that would generate for them.

And I guess they would then try to sell to get as much of their money back as possible.

I just can't see how you can make money out of clubs the size of Rovers.

Thank god we don't support a club that size..........oh

Correct.

Also comparing our situation to Rovers. They had decided long before seasons end they weren’t sticking with Mowbray, their season finished before ours and they have seemingly scrambled around to try and persuade someone to take the job.

Where as we have identified our first choice and gone out and got him.

Does anyone seriously think that we can't do anything because we haven't announced the new manager yet?

Thankfully we don't have to make money out of the club we just have to suspend intelligent facilities enough to maintain belief

According the LET the Venkys have spent over £200 million on the club and we have just been sold for that...! So,....

It hasn't stopped us extending existing contracts, and I've no doubt Kompany will be working behind the scenes.

I’d imagine the person wanting in on any pics (and subsequently delaying the announcement) will simply be Alan Pace.

Rovers fan in peace (again).

JDT looks like a decent appointment on paper for us. He's got a lot of work to do in the next couple of months, but I think most Rovers supporters are just relieved it wasn't Simon Grayson.

Regarding Kompany, sounds like you're announcing him today or tomorrow. The work permit saga must have driven you nuts, and it's curious why that took so long (to do with coaching qualifications or... couldn't he have just applied for citizenship?).

Anyway, looking forward to the new season. Fixtures released in ten days, and plenty of local games to look forward to for us both. All the best (until 30th July).

Maybe I read it wrongly, but I just took it to mean Pace (who is in desperate need of good PR at the moment) has been abroad/on holiday/away on business or something and wants to ensure he is on the photos with Kompany.

Wasn't there some talk towards the back end of the season about a new overseas investor?

They would presumably want to be involved with a new manger announcement and it would explain delay.

I guess we will find out soon.

I’d be interested in knowing which of the sides who didn’t bounce back (Stoke, Derby, Bolton etc) didn’t gamble in year 1.

We seem to be going for it within the parameters having a very delicate financial situation to address, i.e. paying VK what we are etc. We seem to be doing it “progressively” with a young exciting manager who plays good football (which many of us wanted even in the PL). What I don’t know is what all the other clubs did.

To put it another way, for once I feel I can’t gauge our chances of success,

More that priority is being given to Ukrainian nationals seeking refugee status or visas to come here…

The division of the Home Office that deals with this stuff is massively overworked, incredibly understaffed, and to be honest, we’re not that important as an entity in the grand scheme of things…

To be fair, we played good football in the Championship when we got promotion under Dyche. I don't recall many people saying that we were getting the ball forward and putting it in the net in too few passes.

A very high proportion of what makes entertaining football depends on how effective it is. Take a look at the Brighton forum when they've gone 6 games without a goal, and we can see how un-entertained they are by their "good football".

Like kids who want to open their xmas pressies in the early hours & are forced to wait until after breakfast. How anyone thinks that there is nothing going on behind the scenes regarding recruitment needs to understand how things work in football. I can’t believe our new manager would not have had some input into contract extensions…. :)

Good luck to you too.

I've got to admit I was excited with the thought of dropping to the Championship because of all the local derbies. Matches will mean more this year for sure and we will win far more games than in the last few years. Combine that with a new attacking football style, and I can't wait for it to get started.

I think the whole Vincent Kompany saga has been an absolute PR disaster from the club. and should and could of been handled a lot better
How, if it is believed that it is down to a work permit, could it have been handled any better? How is a PR disaster. It is the people on this message board that making it a 'PR disaster'.

I’m not sure that people who bandy this phrase around know what a PR disaster actually is!

I was under the impression Sky bet had closed the book

https://m.skybet.com/football/manager-s ... t/29409503

But it would appear not
Now I know what is going on, AP is putting a shed load of bets on @ 1/20 , so we could be waiting a while for him to make £120 million back, probably need to borrow at least another £2 billion :D

I've got to admit I was excited with the thought of dropping to the Championship because of all the local derbies. Matches will mean more this year for sure and we will win far more games than in the last few years. Combine that with a new attacking football style, and I can't wait for it to get started.
A number of ours weren't bothered about being in the Championship when we were bobbing around in the Premier League. You get the odd smattering of that on message boards, but I don't think even they would "prefer to be in the lower leagues". The local games this coming season certainly adds a bit of match-day excitement, mind.

I cringe when I read managers (or the media) telling us they like to play an "attacking style". We've had plenty of plodders in the last decade talking about a "style of football" and an "identity". It's just ********, really, and I've seen what an absolute shambles of a defence that "style" can create. Give me a team built on a solid defence over an "attacking style" any day of the week. Not to blaspheme on here, but Graeme Souness (for a time) and Mark Hughes brought us the best runs of success since Dalglish, and they certainly focused on a solid defence first and foremost. Dyche seemed to do that for you, too.

No Kompany announcement today, according to Chris Boden.

Sigh
