Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
Apparently it's all done, contract agreed etc.
Looks like Poch's stock has fallen quite sharply if they're going with Ten Hag.
Anyone know much about him and what he's been like at Ajax?
Got a big rebuilding job on his hands at Utd

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
Has a very strong accent, apparently. Not that I’ve ever met a Dutch man who doesn’t have a very strong accent.
The summary I read last night likened him to Guadiola, with a little more focus on the defensive side of the game.

The next in a line of supposedly top managers taking on the Utd job. I can’t see him doing anything more than the last few have done.

Get rid of Pogba and tell the rest of them to run faster, easy.

Is his accent as strong as, say, Steve McLaren’s?

He's not the only under performer.
It's also being reported that the club didn't consult the players this time, whereas they did consult Ronaldo over Conte and he didn't want Conte...

They reckon his younger brother Ruud Nine Hag is a better coachGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 6:56 pmI think they worked together in Holland, so possibly

As others has said, many similarities to Pep with playing style etc, in fact he was reserve manager while Pep managed Bayern. Has achieved ‘Dutch total football’ with Ajax despite losing several key players in De Ligt and De Jong. Definitely a rebuild needed though to 1. Get rid of egos (Pogba and Ronaldo for a start) 2. Players to suit the philosophy

Some people reckon Utd need to give him 3-5yrs to first have a clear out and then to implement the style/philosophy he wants his team's to play.RVclaret wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:03 pmAs others has said, many similarities to Pep with playing style etc, in fact he was reserve manager while Pep managed Bayern. Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
Possibly. It even took Pep a couple of seasons to get his team together. For example Yaya Toure didn’t suit the system and was eased out of the team. What united need is a clear strategy and far, far better better recruitment.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:04 pmSome people reckon Utd need to give him 3-5yrs to first have a clear out and then to implement the style/philosophy he wants his team's to play.

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
It’s a massive job on his hands as there are very few that fit his style. Take the goalkeeper. David de Gea has been incredible for United at times but there’s no way he stays under this manager. Henderson would be a fair better option but I imagine neither would get much game time. His philosophy is total football and de Gea just isn’t of that mould. Pogba will go. I imagine they’ll sell Ronaldo.

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
Whoever takes on the poisoned chalice of Utd is on a hiding to nothing, and they definitely need to weed out the ego's such as Pogba and Ronaldo for starters, however their real issue is just how strong City and Liverpool are at this moment, and I see no signs of either dropping from their scarily high standards, so if Utd are to mount a credible title challenge they'll need to massively improve, in time they may get back to the top, but it'll take lots of patience from their fans.

I don’t follow the hysteria around players like Ronaldo, so I may be missing something obvious, but who will want Ronaldo and can afford him?jdrobbo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 7:54 pmIt’s a massive job on his hands as there are very few that fit his style. PSG are probably the ones who'd be able to afford and consider it.
Mbappe is off this summer to Real, so they'd have space.

I had, maybe wrongly, assumed PSG would be out of the question with both Messi and Neymar there. He’d suit that dreadful club down to a tee though.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 8:24 pmPSG are probably the ones who'd be able to afford and consider it.

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
Pairing Ronaldo and Messi would be a marketing dream for PSG.
They're currently very unhappy with Neymar, they don't feel they've had a good return on the £3.4 million a month wages they've thrown at him since he signed a new deal last year and the £198 million they paid out for him in transfer fees.
They feel he's had his head turned by the celebrity lifestyle etc.

A footballing manager to manage a commercial club.
Good luck with that one.

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
He may not be involved in that side of things. The report I read on him suggested that he’d have a number two and Director of Football for anything outside of coaching / managing the team.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Wed Apr 13, 2022 8:53 pmA footballing manager to manage a commercial club.

I meant the footballing manager will want to play his best team and not sign shirt sellers, who might not fit the way he wants to play.

I’m old fashioned, things like that are bizarre to me. I know that football is changing (not for the better in my eyes) but to me it is about (and always will be) having the best players on the pitch, or the best players to make up the whole.

Now confirmed by Utd, with £1.7 million paid to Ajax to release him from his contract early

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
They could appoint Pep Guardiola with Jurgen Klopp as his assistant and it won't make a shred of difference unless they change how they run the club, and how they identify and buy players

From end of season on a three year contract. I was surprised it was only three years but then remembered that's beyond the time granted now for managers of that club,

His name anagrams to Cheatinger, as in, Man Utd are even more cheatinger than they used to be.
Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
Surely the club have figured out things need to change. Rangnick moving into a consultancy role, he’ll have picked up a lot from the inside during these past months. Believe they’ve sacked their head scout and Woodward is outgoing. Its also reported in Ten Hag’s agreement that he’ll have final say on any transfer.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Thu Apr 21, 2022 1:31 pmHe'll prove to be yet another managerial disaster hopefully, and flush a few more hundred million straight down the khazi.

Always best to have a number two before getting down to business. Canny start from the Dutchman.

Rangnick - to work for Utd 6-8 days a month for the next two years in a consultancy role, mainly recruitment and is expected to be announced as the new Austria manager.

Wonder if he's regretting taking the job yet when they're being linked with someone like Marko Arnautović, De Jong doesn't want to go there and Ronaldo is trying to get out

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
United basically need what’s happened with us over the summer - a huge clear out and refresh of the playing staff.
Ten Hag wants them playing his brand of football from Ajax, which was sensational, with the likes of McFred in midfield and Dalot at right back.
They should start by getting shut of Ronaldo, what a terrible signing that was, said it at the time.

Hopefully, ETH will carry on the recent tradition at OT and continue flushing hundreds of millions down the khazi.
Got a hell of a job on there, as he said himself.

Re: Next Man Utd Manager - Eric Ten Hag?
They never learn.
They've been buying players for the last 6 years, who's best days are behind them.
Sanchez
Fred
Mata
Cavani
Ibrahimovic
Matić
Now Arnautovic
They should be scouting these talents when they're young and improving, not when their best days are behind them. The recruitment at OT has been woeful, but with the Glazers in charge it isn't going to change

Imagine signing a 5ft8 centre half to play in the PL for 60 million when there’s such glaring holes elsewhere…… When Tarky was on a free and they also have a 3x UCL/1x WC winning centre half sat on the bench in his prime

Saw some wag saying this evening that bookies were offering a 10/1 double on Man U and Ryan Giggs both going down.
