The fight to survive is there
We will be cursing that penalty miss but that performance gives us belief that we will fight to the bitter end

It sounded like a much better performance ( from Radio) than the inept showing at Norwich. Shame Cornet too the pen.

I expect some bitterness towards Cornet tonight but I hope it doesn't spoil the appreciation of what was a good battling performance

Re: The fight to survive is there
Cornet took the corner that Wout scored from, also won the penalty with a run we rarely see. People miss penalties these things happen.
All round that looked like a shackles off performance and a team playing for each other not the manager.

We need to let Maxwell off-he earned the pen, and but for him we might be bottom of the PL right now. Hopefully this will spur him on

How refreshing to be making an early substitution when WHU were getting right on top, and the team must have had a bit of open mindedness in putting Jay as wide midfielder when McNeil went off. Beats the meat and two veg of the previous 30 games

I suppose it's the least we can expect
and let's hope it continues in our next two home games
where we need to get at least 4 points from.
Two massive games that will determine whether we're still in with a chance
but we'll probably also need Everton to lose their next two.
Hope the fans get behind the team at the Turf and the team give them something
to get behind.

Yes and he needs supporting after missing 2 bad ones and he’s our best player…. ******* infuriating thoughwarksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 4:28 pmWe need to let Maxwell off-he earned the pen, and but for him we might be bottom of the PL right now. Hopefully this will spur him on
Re: The fight to survive is there
Definitely shackles off so a big relief
Re: The fight to survive is there
If we win the next 2 then we are right back in it. However we’ve only won 3 at home all season so the chances are minuscule
Re: The fight to survive is there
We’ve got to be creating more opportunities. Today was a good performance but we are still not really creating chances - how many shots on target or times did we test the keeper?
It’s **** or bust time now, we’ve got to go for it - which probably means being a little more willing to take risks.

Re: The fight to survive is there
Watched parts of the game as at work, for me it was a much much better performance than we've seen week in week out, looked to pass it to each other and mixed our passing up. Even with the Pen miss (oh well) we owe Pope for that hard earned point, with a number of outstanding saves towards the end.
Thoughts are with Westwood with this evening, as the full extent of his injury will no doubt come out in the next few days.
Its been a real rollercoaster 48hrs for Burnley FC so to get a point today shows we are not dead at all yet.
Lets get into Southampton.

We looked dangerous enough and another day Jay would have stuck that in the top corner for the win and we would have stuck the penalty away.DCWat wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 4:36 pmWe’ve got to be creating more opportunities. Re: The fight to survive is there
See...we can actually pass it. Brownhill still gives it away far too much (everything he does it at breakneck speed) but we can move the ball around. Cork helps that but it wasn't just him today. ..
We form triangles (school boy) to keep it moving. Still rode our luck towards end but so what.
Brownhills sort of volley to play cornet in for the peny was good so I'm not getting at him.

Re: The fight to survive is there
We've just potted our manager 48hrs before the game along with 99% of the backroom staff, we are down to our injured captain having to lead the team, they've just witnessed a friend in Westwood suffer the most horrific injury, we've managed to get a point away from home to a club in the top 8 and just got to a European semi final, and we get the above comments?!DCWat wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 4:36 pmWe’ve got to be creating more opportunities. Perhaps the balance came from the line that said “today was a good performance”. If you don’t think that we need to be creating more in the games that we’ve got coming up, that’s your prerogative, but that was the just of my post.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 4:56 pmWe've just potted our manager 48hrs before the game along with 99% of the backroom staff, we are down to our injured captain having to lead the team, they've just witnessed a friend in Westwood suffer the most horrific injury, we've managed to get a point away from home to a club in the top 8 and just got to a European semi final, and we get the above comments?!

Re: The fight to survive is there
Fair or not, there is definitely an element of truth. Mc Neill, whilst not outstanding, did in fact try and get on the front foot today, and, ok I know Westy got injured, but there weren’t as many aimless punts forward today. I think if the penalty had been scored, we would have won at a canter.

The penalty miss is irrelevant and what happened today may not be representative of what will happen in the remaining games although we all hope it will be.Claretitus wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 5:31 pmFair or not, there is definitely an element of truth. It'll be great if they can fight like this and give the fans something to cheer about. But in terms of survival, I think that ship has sailed sadly. A point at West ham is great, but unfortunately at this point not enough in my opinion.

Re: The fight to survive is there
I’m more hopeful of staying up after what I saw today with players given a bit more freedom to play, than what I saw in the last few weeks ie Brentford away and Norwich away, never mind most of the other rubbish we’ve had to endure this season. If we go down fighting, and showing a bit of effort/spirit, then so be it, but Everton at home apart, we’ve not seen any for a while. Most of that is down to Dyche, like it or not. I was a big Dyche fan till 18 months ago, he had to go. He has. So let’s deal with it and move on.

Re: The fight to survive is there
We need wins to stay up, but we also need draws. That was a good result in what is on paper the second toughest game in our run in.
Comments about us dropping points from winning positions are a little daft as West Ham threw everything at us and it’s not simple to just shut out a superior team. And by that logic we shouldn’t have beaten Everton from a losing position.

Totally agree with the sentiments but the cold hard truth is that we urgently need wins and we've missed a big chance (again) today.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 4:56 pmWe've just potted our manager 48hrs before the game along with 99% of the backroom staff, we are down to our injured captain having to lead the team, they've just witnessed a friend in Westwood suffer the most horrific injury, we've managed to get a point away from home to a club in the top 8 and just got to a European semi final, and we get the above comments?!

Re: The fight to survive is there
The effort has always been there, we lack in composure and nous.
A point would have been brilliant, IF we'd beaten Brentford and Norwich, as it is it isn't good enough. We were hanging on, and grateful to Pope, in a game we had to win. There is a lot of positives about us, but it's also obvious why we are going down.
I just hope whoever takes over can get a better tune out of them, but they deserve a pat on the back for not giving up.

Re: The fight to survive is there
Why are the chances miniscule, if you had to select 2 opponents, Southampton & Wolves would be among the better ones to pick, followed by a trip to Watford, and then Villa at home, absolutely no reason why we can't pick up a good haul of points from those 4 fixtures based on today's display.
And if we can get ahead of Everton I strongly believe they'll struggle to respond to the pressure, of course our problem is actually nudging ahead of them.
But plenty to play for yet.

I disliked his brand of football and do accept that his reluctance to change things affected our chances of staying up.
Plenty of fighting spirit today and I felt we went about it differently today, a great effort
We will need to stay up for me to accept the sacking

I agree with 50% of this post Elizabeth. However, I DO support the sacking of Dyche now, wether we stay up or not. IMHO, we wouldn’t have been anywhere near the top 6 in the Championship next season if we go down.Elizabeth wrote: ↑Sun Apr 17, 2022 6:27 pmI do not support the sacking of Dyche so close to the end of the season and feel he deserved so much better.

Such a shame we couldn't bury a bloody penalty for goodness sake, but the patient is still alive and breathing and I for one am up for the scrap which resumes on Thursday. We've a decent chance, but we have to perform pretty much every game.
