500K per week agreed with City.
Re: Haaland
Excellent. We'll now be able to watch in awe as Pep uses his miraculous coaching abilities to turn him into a goal scorer.

Great news.
If all these top clubs are to spend all that money it might as well be on the best players in the world.

Re: Haaland
Slight change of topic, but father and son footballers?
The fathers are usually the better footballer, right; for example, Johan Cruyff versus Jordi Cruyff? Or our own Brian Miller compared to his son Dave, who also played for us.
However, Erling Braut Haaland is very definitely a better player than his dad, Alf-Inge Haaland. Similarly, Frank Lampard Junior was a better footballer than Frank Lampard Senior. And, Harvey Barnes is a better player than our own Paul Barnes.
Who else?
And is the father always the better player, or are there lots of other examples of the son being the better player such as those that I give?

Eidur Gudjohnsen was better than his dad. Interestingly only father-son duo I know of to play together at international level.SlidingTackle wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 1:09 pmSlight change of topic, but father and son footballers?

Sandro Mazzola was better than his father Valentino going further back. And more recently, Paolo Maldini was better than his father Cesare, but also much better than his own sons.
Patrick Kluivert significantly better than his son Justin.

I was surprised recently to read that only one of them (Shaun, I think) is his biological son. Re: Haaland
Haaland is obviously an extremely talented player with a mean strike on him- that being said I do believe that there are some concerns surrounding him, namely his fitness levels.
He’s 21 years of age (turning 22 mid July) and has had a significant amount of injuries for a tender age (see attached image).
I mean compare that with Dwight McNeil who are similar ages and played a similar amount of games.
Speculation on if he’s just injury prone OR is it because he’s taken certain ‘things’ to improve his overall development and athleticism.
So yeah - brilliant player but reason for concern - especially moving to the PL which is widely renowned for being more physical & demanding - especially around the winter period when players don’t have the luxury of a winter break unlike in other leagues! (Yeah the World Cup this winter doesn’t count)

So the conclusion is probably that there are lots of lads better than their dads and lots of dads better than their lads, have we thought about comparing grandads with their lads lads or lads lads with their grandads?

When the signing is complete and confirmed think city might finish at least in the top 3 next season football as gone mad utc
Re: Haaland
Compared to a lot of the high paid equivalents, footballers do pay a lot of tax. A substantial amount of their wages do come through PAYE so no tax dodging there, although someone like Haaland will also have a hefty chunk as image rights (probably going into an overseas company) and various other things.Suratclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 9:24 amand that will probably depend on how imaginative his accountants are and the exact wording of his contract.

Re: Haaland
So now City finally have a genuine striker what excuse will Guardiola use when they fail to lift the CL next season.
Crazy wages but the game somehow seems immune to the factors affecting other industries, and salaries just keep skyrocketing.

Re: Haaland
I understood that under the UK tax system, because their high-earnings potential spans a relatively short period, sports men/women are able to set up a trust fund and have their earnings paid into that income-tax free, only becoming liable for income tax on withdrawals from said fund, whether those be this year or in twenty years time? IR35 would certainly catch them otherwise.aggi wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 10:11 amCompared to a lot of the high paid equivalents, footballers do pay a lot of tax. Re: Haaland
In 2021, Bet365 earned about 3 billion in revenue. Denise Coates 300 million salary is well within their means.
Over 5 years, Haaland's contract is rumoured to be worth about 500 million. Between him and De Bruyne, that's their Premier League TV revenue gone for the next 5 years.
I wonder how they will raise the money for the rest of their over-inflated squad and Pep's penchant for transfer spending over the same period?

You're quite right aggi. He will pay massive amounts in tax.aggi wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 10:11 amCompared to a lot of the high paid equivalents, footballers do pay a lot of tax. Also worth noting that the money that pays him mainly comes from abroad. It comes from the owners, the TV agreements (now mainly from abroad). It also comes from Citeh fans but also other commercial sales (again, now mainly abroad).
Despite the money originating abroad, the tax will be mainly paid in the UK. No doubt whatsoever his accountants will do what they can minimize his tax bill but that is normal.
If Haaland arrives it will obviously be good news for the PL but it will also be good news for the UK taxpayer.
Re: Haaland
Isn't that similar to what Rangers were doing, which was found to be against the rules and led to their downfall?AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 10:44 amI understood that under the UK tax system, because their high-earnings potential spans a relatively short period, sports men/women are able to set up a trust fund and have their earnings paid into that income-tax free, only becoming liable for income tax on withdrawals from said fund, whether those be this year or in twenty years time? Although I think you're describing a settlor interested trust which isn't great for tax benefits.
It's the image rights, shirts deals, etc where the "creativity" generally comes in.

Re: Haaland
It’s a good job that the premier league has a financial limitation on how much money that clubs can spend otherwise we would have some clubs practically buying trophies.
