Pope 7
Roberts 9 - his best game for us
Collins 9 - rolls Royce performance
Tarkowski 8 - lost Adams and was saved by a superb recovery tackle by
Taylor 9 - helped carry the ball out a lot too
McNeil 9* - deserved a goal / assist, really hope that performance gives him the confidence
Cork 8 - such a better midfield with him in
Brownhill 8 - two assists, some really tidy forward play too
Cornet 7 - constant threat without the end product tonight but him wide really helps with fast transitions
Weghorst 7 - -1 for a terrible miss but really helps us play football when we are knocking it around
Jay 8 - also should have scored but some very clever movement

Pope- 8 solid as ever, some good stops
Roberts- 8. +1 for the goal, very energetic performance, best performance he's had.
Collins- 8 +1 for the goal, but did everything he needed to.
Tarkowski-7. Let them in once or twice, but we pushed up so much that's to be expected.
Taylor-8. Outstanding 2nd half block, energetic, often doing the work of 2 in defence.

McNeil- 7. I still prefer him on the left, but much more the Dwight of old. Ummed and ahhed whether to give him a 7 or an 8.
Brownhill-8 MOM. He's so much better with Cork alongside him. Said it after Spurs, after Brighton, and again here.
Cork- 8. Did everything he needs to do well, kept us ticking over, couple reckless tackles but hey ho. Was happy pushing up further than he has for ages.
Cornet- 5. Don't know what it is with him. I'll get flak for giving him 2 low ratings in a row I'm sure. He's clearly an excellent player but he lost the ball a few times, struggled with crossing and positioning, and left Taylor pretty exposed again. As I said after West Ham, got to keep a player who can win you games in, but he's all-or-nothing at times.

Weghorst- 7. On the one hand he got it into the box far more, his linkup play was great...on the other he missed a sitter and hesitated way too long on another. Quality player, mixed bag, all the tools are there though.
Jay- 7. Forster denied him with a top save, he led the line well and energetically.

Lennon- 5. We waned offensively when he replaced Cornet, but shored up defensively. He didn't do much.
Vydra- N/S not on long enough to score.

Pope 8 - not a great deal to do but he was excellent when called upon.
Roberts 8 - what a strike for the goal and by far the best I've seen him defensively.
Collins 8 - dominant this evening. If he times his run better in the second half and he gets two goals.
Tarkowski 7 - played well but caught under the ball for the Adams chance.
Taylor 7 - one phenomenal block in the second half but some sloppy moments.
McNeil 8* - class.
Brownhill 8 - another very good performance alongside Cork, played a part in both goals and covered well for his team mates when they were caught out of position.
Cork 7 - a very assured performance.
Cornet 5 - poor tonight and I'm not sure if he was under instruction to be playing as far forwards as he was but he didn't give us enough going forwards and left Taylor exposed at times. Lennon may come into the thoughts for Sunday.
Weghorst 7 - some good hold up play and worked very hard. Should have scored at least one goal however.
Jay 7 - gave us a platform and covered a lot of ground. Should have scored the chance in the first half and thought he was slightly sloppy with the ball at times.

We played some excellent football this evening, particularly in the first half, some of the movement and invention qith the passing was great to see. A fantastic team performance and it perhaps could have been more comfortable.

Pope - 7 - so he can distribute the ball well

Roberts - 9 - I wondered when we would see the Conor Roberts for Wales
Collins - 8
Tarks - 8
Taylor - 7 - give it away in some dodgy areas. Defensively he worries me but does well down his wing

McNeil - 8 - lost his man twice at corners but that’s the Dwight we know going forward
Brownhill - 8
Cork - 8
Cornet - 6 - ineffective

Jay - 8
Weghorst - 7

Lennon - 6

Pope 8
Taylor 8
Collins 9 brilliant player already, scary what he's gonna become.
Tark 7
Roberts 10 made some crucial blocks defensively dont forget. MOM
Mcneil 9 back to his very best
Cork 9 I thought his legs had gone months ago, I was wrong he was just out of form, back to his best.
Brownhill 8 2 assists, good tonight.
Cornet 6 a little quiet, looked threatening, with Mcneil so bright we can afford Cornet to have a night off.
Weghorst 8 absolutely everywhere, brilliant performance, shame about the two chances missed.
Jay 7

Passed em off the park first half, blew them away. Who says these players can't pass the ball? you've been tricked

Pope 8 So good when called upon.
Roberts 9 Great Finish and a good game
Tarks 7 solid
Collins 8 good goal and a fantastic prospect.
Taylor 8 Incredible block and great defensive work.
McNeil 8 Top class today. Deserved a goal.
Brownhill 7 two assists and a solid performance. Great Corners.
Cork 7 does the simple stuff so well which gets weghorst and brown I’ll thriving which in turn improves the whole team.
Cornet 6 quieter one today, didn’t quite fall for him but always a threat with his movement. Great Corners.
Weghorst 6 Good game linked up well but has to score.
Jay 7 Puts a proper shift in and unlucky not to score.

Pope 8
Roberts 9 looked to rise in confidence with the goal
Taylor 8 shocking back pass but made a block worth a goal. Would have been more than my nerves would take going into the the last ten at 2-1
Tarkowski 8 solid as usual
Collins 10 didn't add one for the goal, just can't remember a better centre half display in years
Mcneil 8 didn't start well but benefited from switching wings intermittently. Some great movement and attacking play
Brownhill 7 gave him a 3 on Sunday. Much improved. Takes a good corner but his free kicks......
Cork 8 really composed, ran his socks off, looked like he wanted it and did the simple things really well
Cornet 6 much better than Sunday but he's something of an enigma
Jay 7 all over the place (in a good way) should have scored first half
Weghorst 6 great effort and fight but lacking in quality where it counts- hopefully I'm wrong and its merely confidence he's lacking
Lennon 6
Vydra 6

It's never been impossible to escape points wise but the reason for most people's resignment to relegation was the performances, the style of play and the failure to turn up in these type of games. All three were answered tonight. Heard the players interviews and Jackson both saying they haven't changed anything but its clear to see there's a different direction. No aimless hoofs, just patient passing and dare I say quality. Even tried a "trick" free kick! Repeat this on Sunday and it's game on. Well done to all concerned.

Pope 8 - solid and didn’t give them a sniff

Roberts 9 - that’s the attacking quality he shows for Wales, makes one wonder if it had been stifled until now
Collins 9 - another great finish and so,id at the back, potential leader
Tarkowski 8 - lost Adams but was solid generally
Taylor 8 - they did get a few crosses from that side but that block (o.k. Adams was offside) was superb

McNeill 9 - smiling and classy. A bit risky in possession when facing his own goal still, but again I wonder if coaches had been on his back
Brownhill 8 - two assists and an energetic performance playing further forward
Cork 9 - sat in that watercarrier role letting the rest play, we do so better with Jack in the side, the stats prove it
Cornet 7 - very lively, didn't get that final touch today but worked his socks off

Rodriguez 8 - full of energy, seems to get a lot of shots, most on target
Weghorst 7 - very good first half, missed a great chance but knitted play together well. When Jack plays he plays well.

Lennon 7 - lively as usual

Outstanding performance after a nervy start. Contrast to Everton who have been a wreck in every game except against us, including the ones they won against Newcastle and Man United. We now have a chance, probably a 40% one.

I suggest we have a look at Leeds fixtures too. Very tough, just one easyish home game.

Jackson seems to be letting them express themselves and trusting them to do it. The risks in that are evident but it should lead to open games where we rely on our defence and have to take chances. As long as he retains the shape they know it could work. Sunday is now huge, Wolves have had a good rest and have a great away record, we are thus underdogs. A win there and it could cause Everton and Leeds to wobble in the coming days. If we get lucky we could be past Everton and on the coattails of Leeds as they enter their own horrid run of games.

Pope 9 good saves and equally distribution
Roberts 9 a good player. Great goal and performance.
Taylor 8 shaky first 10 but played well after that.
Collins 9 superb
Tarkowski 9 equally superb
Cork 8 all over the pitch
McNeil 9 best performance of the season. A threat all night.
Brownhill 8 as above and passed the ball well.
Cornet 7 a threat with his pace but not quite his night.
Weghorst 8 ran his socks off and linked up play well.
Jay Rod as above

A tricky first ten mins but after we went ahead we played some superb stuff and could have been 4 or 5 up at half time.

From tv:
Pope 7 not a lot to do, but threw ball out to wide players much more than before
Roberts 9 fabulous performance, everywhere on right hand side of the pi5ch
Collins 9 better than Maguire already, he's going to be massive for us
Tarks 8 did what Tarks does
Taylor 8 plus 1 for the block
McNeil 9 the shackles are off
Brownhill 8 possibly his best game for us (Cork makes a difference to him)
Cork 7 did the donkey work in midfield with that touch of class
Cornet 7 frightens defenders
Wevhorst 8 very good footballer
Jayrod 7 worked very hard to make himself available
Lennon 6 worked hard

Jackson, Mee etc 8 some of the football was a joy to watch

Mom? Roberts, Collins, Mac ? difficult choice

I'm not rating, and I also thought Roberts did well, but I seem to remember the best Southampton chances coming from his side.

I think we have our answer in terms of what the players make of the decision last Friday. That was a performance of real freedom, enjoyment, and guile. It felt like the players took a collective big deep breath out and just went and played football. The weight has well and truly been lifted from them. We scored a brilliant early goal and then just kept attacking them and we should have had 4 in the first half. What a breath of fresh air.

Full credit to Mike Jackson and his assistants who've gone about this in exactly the correct way. No real changes but they've transmitted belief back to the players in their own ability.

Best I've seen them play in a long, long time. I think the highlight was straight from kick off in the second half we were on the attack after a passing move and had won a corner in which Tarkowski should have scored within 30 seconds of the restart. Under Dyche, that was a big boot out for a throw in.

Pope - 8 - one smart save - handling spot on, distribution from the back excellent

Roberts - 8 - his best game to date and a terrific goal to kick it all off
Tarkowski - 8 - outstanding again
Collins - 8 - another good showing and goal to boot
Taylor - 8 - one superb block, carries the ball well, defensively solid

McNeil - 9* - back to the Dwight we know. Looked like a player who’d had the world lifted off his shoulders - head up and smiling again.
Cork - 9 - not started many games but he’s now started 3 of the 5 games we’ve won this season. No coincidence. Calm and assured - we simply play better football when he’s in there
Brownhill - 9 - pressed well and two assists to boot - can’t ask for more
Cornet - 6 - some half decent stuff in among, but some poor stuff as well - plays on instinct.

Weghorst - 8 - a handful - held it up well when played into feet, knitted it all together
Rodriguez - 9 - just an intelligent footballer. Calm, great movement, touch and interplay - unlucky not to score

Lennon - 7 - did a job when he came on

All in all a great team performance. The togetherness was evident and we played some really good football. Onto the next one

Not a poor performance on the pitch and a really good balance to the team

Course, its just one swallow, and its up to us and them to build on the standards set last night and play at that level for the remaining games of the season

Win against Wolves and we have a huge chance of staying up, but last night was just one fantastic game if we don't

We have to be honest and say Saints made and missed a number of great chances and that's a worry going forward, but then again we made far more and looked a constant threat and that's actually very heartening going forward. We definitely appear to be playing with more purpose and freedom post Dyche, but whether it's coincidence I don't know. What I will say, is when Jackson took off the excellent McNeil and brought on Lowton and pushed Roberts to wing back it was a brilliant call to help us see out the game and one I honestly don't think Dyche would have made. I'm worried about Cornet because he was limping off at half time and played on before being forced off and I'm not sure we'll see him on Sunday and we need his pace and the outlet ball he frequently gives us. Now we have to do something we've spectacularly failed to do all season and that's turn a couple of decent results into a "run". Over to you Michael Jackson!

I think the shackles off approach is always going to produce a greater risk but I think that is the risks we now need to take (risk v reward) (take a risk to win v stay safe and draw). As you say the new approach is certainly very heartening. Where I do have slight concerns as well is the two chances from set pieces for the saints (West Ham also scored off a free kick into the box)
