Didn't realise the referee was Courtney. He'd been there five years earlier on the cusp of oblivion and now on the cusp of a long awaited return to a higher division.
Recall Blake getting jeered during the warm up. Had he played at Blackburn at some time in his career?

Didn't Williams have a storming game to keep us out against Rochdale which we lost 1.0.

Why did we let him play against us?

I hadn’t realised Roger Hansbury was in goal for them that night.

Man of the match that day - why on earth we allowed him to play I don’t know.

Good referee too.

Have to confess, neither had I.

I remember seeing a player called Cohen Griffith who I thought was quite a player that night.
Never heard of him since. shows what I know!

Nathan Blake went on to play for Blackburn later on in his career.

We jeered him for that association after he left but either he was being abused for another reason or it's a case of the memory playing tricks.

He was a very handy player. I think Stan may have tried to bring him in once or twice (not sure on this?) but it was never likely to happen. He'd have been a big improvement on what we had in place.

Blake was a youngster then and went on to have a good career.

We just knew we were on the way up as this game progressed with Mexican Waves lapping the Turf.
Seem to recall a bunch of American kids in the Bob Lord that night, perhaps a high school team or similar. They all had matching jackets with white under the arms which made them clearly visible as they joined in the waves

I had retired to the Bob Lord by then but there was an incredible atmosphere that night.

Always a Claret was Roger. Let 4 goats pass him in 45 minutes at Cambridge in 85/6 season and then helped us in our way in 92 by shipping another 3.

There was. An air of expectancy more than the game two days before v Scarboro.

Yup, remember that. 0-4 before half time. Don’t think the Cambridge fans appreciated Roger happily talking to Burnley fans under the circumstances.
