That was horrible, just horrible.
We were awful for the first 80 minutes. I went to hang the washing out. No idea what happened in the last 10 minutes but we were second best to everything today. Can't let the result cloud my thinking sorry.

Ridiculous. It's ALL about the result.

Re: That was horrible, just horrible.
Sometimes you have to find a way to win games ugly, and that's exactly what we did today.
The result was all that mattered this afternoon however we achieved it, and all it will say in the stats is.
Watford 1 Burnley 2.
Just enjoy the win and savour the table, now up to 16th.

That was wonderful, we were well off it for 80 mins, but I can absolutely let the result cloud my thinking. Up the Clarets, magnificent!

Yes we were awful but 3 points is all that matters at this point, loads of pressure on Everton now, can see them crumbling tomorrow with another defeat hopefully.

It is when we find ourselves in the position we are in. I'll take an indifferent performance and three points any day.

We weren’t awful for 80 mins. We had a 10 min spell in the first half and from around the hour mark we were slowly starting to dominate the play.
I always felt if we could knick one we’d have had a shot at winning. No chance we pull that back under Dyche the way we’ve operated the past 2 years.

To say we were horrible for 80 mins is not true, we weren't good in the first half, but from 60mins onwards we were on the front foot

Commentators who watched it beg to differ. It was deserved. Watford enjoyed the first half buoyed by the own goal, the second half was ours.

Fully agree HOWEVER we did what we haven’t managed to do all season and beat a relegation threatened team away from home.
You did feel as the game went on that if we got one we would get another - it’s the story of their season.

Stinky kebab on a curbside at 2am. Disgusting, bad for the health, but I'm full and have zero regrets that I experienced it.
Re: That was horrible, just horrible.
Not fully agree, horrible is harsh. First half yes, second we were much better without really creating much.

Points and not performances are all that matter.

We were good after Barnes introduction and Lennon/McNeil switched wings. Also a few spells here and there first half but not sustained. Lennon on the left is a big no no.

We’ve been awful last 2 games , but we kept fighting against a side so poor it beggared belief . And a great win ensued. You can see the players totally want it. Last 15 with wings switched we played it on the deck too

Every pro watching that match and commentating on radio and tv said Burnley played well in second half and deserved the win.

Re: That was horrible, just horrible.
We were not awful
First half we failed to achieve the required levels but we stuck at it
Second half once Barnes came on for Weghorst and McNeil and Lennon switched sides we controlled possession and created good chances. Ultimately enough chances to win the game
When things aren't going to plan you hang in there and believe in what you are doing - that's a long way from awful
Newcastle, Leeds and Norwich they were awful - a world of difference from that performance today

My daughter and BF were at the game , I rang her 10 minutes after full time and they both agree we were awful for 80 minutes and no idea how we won that. Goals came from nowhere, but the fans were ecstatic at the end.Guppyspotter wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:35 pmWe were awful for the first 80 minutes. I went to hang the washing out. Horrible is just completely wrong. Yes, off the pace in first half, but, the players came out on front foot in second half. Certainly from 60 mins on, you just felt we would get 1, and when we did, our tails were up, their heads were down. Look at the stats. Not many games this season where we’ve had so much possession, and been on top with passing, goal attempts, and shots on target. If we’re that horrible against Villa next week, I’ll take that now.

Re: That was horrible, just horrible.
Cant agree.
We were off it and knocked off our game going one nil down. As it would. Its the absolute crunch end of the season and we could have easily seen the pressure cripple our players.
We worked our way back into the game and Watford offered nothing in terms of attacking intent.
Happy to rely on an eigth minute gift.
Under the previous regime, at this point I’d have had no hope of getting back into it yet I knew we’d get our chance to equalise.
Even before we scored for 1-1 I knew if we got the first, the second would / should come as they’d have to switch from a defensive mindset to an attacking one and give us more space to play.
They parked the bus and we still broke them down. TWICE.
What a monumental effort from our lads.
Couldnt be happier for the team the scorers and the town.
Well Done the lads!

Re: That was horrible, just horrible.
Whilst we lacked quality on the ball in the first half we were far from awful. I thought we still controlled most of the game.
The ref tried to ref the game essentially by not reffing the which played into Watford's favour - I lost count of the number of obvious fouls not given and/or loose balls that fell Watford's way. Ref gives them an odd soft decision or for blanat dives and Watford score an unlikely goal. We get a penalty scratched off and Barnes eventually looks to have scored (and I'm convinced Foster gives a penalty away in that same move) but our lads stuck to their task admirably and gained one of the biggest wins of our last few years.
Lesser teams crumble in those type of circumstances but we took our medicine and got more determined without losing sight of how we planned to win the game. Manager makes some shrew subs and we we deservedly won the game.
With 15 minutes to go I still saw us as the better team and still controlling the match.
Our attitude is incomparable in this PL. We have Sean Dyche to thank for that but Mike Jackson and Ben Mee have reinvigorated it.
Brilliant Burnley!

Re: That was horrible, just horrible.
Lowest point for me this season was when Leeds came from 2-0 to beat Wolves, the night after 10-man Everton beat Newcastle in injury time. I was certain that was it - everything was conspiring against us.
I imagine that’s how we’ll have made Everton/Leeds fans feel tonight. Massive result - don’t really care about the performance!

I thought Watford played like a team with no pressure on them, this game kinda summed up Watford's season, they've shown signs of being a really really good side going forward (5 at Goodison, 4 against Man United) they just can't keep it up and can't stop conceding goals.
Watford came out flying though for the first 25 minutes, the first half petered out pretty even. The 2nd half was a different story, particularly the final 25-30 minutes, we absolutely dominated possession, missed some great chances and then nicked it. We were ALWAYS going to have a spell in the game, we made the most of our spell. Lennon has to score or pass, Barnes header is a hell of a save, Lennon had an easy square pass to Wout for a tap in, somehow badly overhit the cross.

Pretty sure I read we had 12 shots in the 2nd half, not sure you could say we didn't create anything either, Lennon has an absolute sitter 1v1 with Wout square and Barnes' header from 3 yards is a wonder save.

No visible signs of panic from us when it wasn't going so well - belief in our ability to turn it around. Stuck to the game plan and didn't resort to playing the percentages from a direct/long ball game
Really refreshing to see - as the commentators on NBC remarked - it was a high quality game for a relegation scrap

We were not at our best but we "found a way to win", and more importantly secured 3 points.Having said that I can see why Watford will be relegated. Its a result to cherish particularly when you see how poor we were home and away to Norwich and got just one point.Same with Leeds

I listened to it on 5 live and co-commentator Glen Murray summarised by saying we weren't in it for the first 15 minutes but went on to dominate.
He also said immediately after Cork's goal that he thought Burnley would go on to win.

The stats were all in our favour - shots on target, possession, passes in final third, fouls conceded, territory.
It was a relegation battle, full of nerves and not pretty. But we deserved to win. Not just for the last 10 minutes. We gradually ground them down despite that they were on their final chance and were busting a gut.

Not exactly horrible but outclassed in the first half, pressed hard and physically dominated. But even then you could see what we were trying to do, we just didn't get enough time and space on the ball. We kept going and came back into it when Watford dropped off a bit.
Nothing to worry about.
