Keep the faith

Post by Milltown1882 » Sat May 07, 2022 5:00 pm

Nobody expected us to take 10 from 12 before this game, it’s now 10 from 15. Week off for the players to refresh before going all out at Spurs.

If Leeds and Everton lose tomorrow we’ve lost nothing and it’s another game down.

Agree. It's a body blow, but still all to play for and no doubt some shock results thrown in. UTC.

Disappointing result today, but we were bound to come unstuck at some stage, just have to hope both Everton and Leeds also slip up tomorrow.

If we can keep it alive heading into the last day then anything can happen.

We still have everything to play for.
Both teams losing tomorrow and its still the same scenario.
We still have points to play for and we are capable of getting them.

We had no hope and were heading in one direction not long ago, it should really be survival is a bonus given the position we were in but it wont feel like that if we go down.

I think we are ****** after that, can't see us beating that lot away from home especially with the injuries piled up and Spurs always beat us away.

Leeds will fancy themselves picking up more points against Brighton (H) and Brentford (A) than we will against Villa (A) and Newcastle (H).

Leeds game against Brighton is their equivalent of our game today (most likely game to pick up 3 points). Its quite possible they could lose all four remaining games.

There is. First half against Southampton and second v Wolves showed that. Unfortunately we’ve just lost two strikers from that which made it work and had Cornet out injured, our biggest attacking threat. Now we’ve lost Tarkowski. Terribly unlucky.

Wow I hate the flip flop nature of this message board at times we win a couple of games “yes we are staying” we lose 1 “oh we are down now”.

I have no idea if we will go down or not, but I still fancy us to get points I thought maybe 6 points from the last 4 I still think we can get that. Leeds may get 6 points I suspect more likely 4 not sure Everton can get 9 points though to go above us assuming we get the 6 that is.

How did Tarky pick up his injury? Commentators suggested that he may have been brought off as a precaution. Any news if it is more serious?

Its like Paul Whitehouse in that Fast Show sketch on here, can't make his mind up about anything. Need to equal or better Leeds results, that's all.

Will be watching Aresenal/Leeds tomorrow with added interest.

After the Norwich game, we were sleepwalking towards relegation without a fight.

This season has been poor, and the squad is lacking in real quality, so to be going into the final 3 games still very much with a chance of staying up is an achievement in itself.

Today is a real set back, but like the OP says, if Leeds and Everton lose this weekend (especially Leeds), then we haven’t lost anything.

Today needs to be used as a bit of a reset by the players.

I’m still hopeful of 4 more points. Whether that is enough or not, we will have to wait and see.

Football often throws up funny results - it wouldn’t at all surprise me if we went to Villa and then won.

I think I’m right in saying that their away record is better than their home record. We can still do it but we need to be far better than today.

Feel sorry for the team, but if we put our neutral hats on we got what we deserved from that starting 11. Its credit to them we have pulled a lead over Norwich and Watford

The main reason why teams are near the bottom to state the obvious is that they lose more than they win.

Did i think we would go undefeated to the end of the season under the new manager- No

will Leeds or Everton win all their matches - No

To me 38 points will keep us up, a backs to the wall draw against Spurs and then we can learn off today’s performance v Villa for the return match then it will be game on for the Newcastle match and I will take it being in our own hands going into the final match.

Everton’s win against Chelsea was a real hammer blow, but today’s loss against a Villa team with nothing to play for was probably one of the final nails in our Premier League coffin.

Jeez the doom mongers are out tonight. The OP is right. 10 from 15, who’d have thought that a month ago.

Play football the right way, quick to players not aimless balls in the air and we’re have showed we have quality in areas.

Villa are safe now. They’ll be on the beach in a weeks time and so will Newcastle ;)

The injuries are going to kill us I think. Forward line was severely affected against Villa and if we’re without Tarky for the foreseeable it’s going to be incredibly tough.

We have to be realistic Spijed. After all the effort and fight of recent weeks, we were sadly very, very lacking yesterday and if we were mid table we could regroup, have a reset and do better next week, but we're in a position where every point is going to be crucial and we missed probably as good a chance as we've got left to get some on the board. Yesterday just felt like the majority of games this season (under SD) Decent, but no way good enough for this level.

I think we lose at Spuds but beat Villa (now safe) and Newcastle which gives us 40 points and will be enough

Yesterdays result (although it might not feel like it now) could be a blessing in disguise.

I'm just glad neither Everton or Leeds have Man UTD still to play

I've got faith, but I'm also a realist

If Tarky and Mee are out of the Spurs game, its Collins and Long v Kane and Son

To believe we have a chance with that is the sort of faith is reserved for Brexiteers still thinking the benefits are just around the corner

Even with Tarkowski and Mee we were going to be up against it. It's the Villa and Newcastle games that are the important ones.

With three games left, you need your strongest possible team available in every game

It looks like injuries are going to be a huge factor in whether we stay up or not sadly

(course, over the course of the season we won't have been good enough as well)

We have taken points of everyone we have played twice bar Citeh and Liverpool. We also beat Spurs

So we can expect points v Villa and Newcastle

I agree 4 may just be enough given our goal difference v Leeds

For a club which has traditionally worked with a very small squad with minimal "rotation" under Dyche in the PL, we've had loads of seasons where we've been incredibly lucky with our injuries. This season it's really hurt us and it seems even now, this close to the end, it's still hurting us with all of Jay, Vydra and Tarks going down in the past week. Getting our best XI out in pretty much every single game has always been crucial to us and we have rarely been able to do that this season and can't do even now.

Yesterday was a blow no doubt but we were never going to win out or even go undefeated under Jackson. Winning four Premier League games on the bounce is tough for most teams. Spurs are a fantastic team on their day and we can only pray they throw in a performance like the recent game against Brighton. But I cant see us getting anything there. However, if we can go into the final two games within a point of Leeds or level, I still think we're favourites. Brighton is a tough game at home and Leeds will be under immense pressure in front of an expectant crowd. Brentford just did not fold as most expected after their mid season slump and the Erikson signing has proved a master stroke. No way are they lying down for Leeds and I've never bought into this "they're on the beach" talk for any team. A relaxed team often beats a team fighting for their lives. It will be tough with our injuries no doubt but we've just got to dig deep one last time and find one big result.

Leeds have to play the sides who are 4th, 6th, 8th and 10th in the last eight game form table. The highest two of those are Brighton and Brentford. By the time we get home from Spurs we will have a real sense of what we need to do because Leeds will have played three of those four games.

I always fancied 3 points against Villa just imagined it would be at the Turf but why not at Villa Park, for me we will beat Newcastle last game as well.
After watching that game Yesterday at our ground, I wouldn't be too confident of 3 points away to this lot. Anything can happen though

Villa better away than at home, Leeds’ injury list is as bad as ours and now adding a suspension to that. Anything can happen now, we are in a lottery - thankfully we at least have a ticket!

Everyone now sees it as between us and Leeds now clearly we are the favourites, but Everton aren’t out of the woods yet and Southampton are going to struggle to get another point. Could Leeds and us get 6 points each and send them down on GD, be mad if we did?

I’d be delighted, but amazed, if we pick up six more points.
