Huddersfield v Luton

Post by depechedingle » Mon May 16, 2022 4:12 pm

2nd leg of the Championship Playoff Semi Final tonight.

First leg drawn 1-1 at Kenilworth Road, setting tonight's game up nicely.

Huddersfield finishing 3rd in the regular season will start as favourites and of course would if we stay up, would be a local away game.

However, the thought of the uninitiated big club away followings visiting Kenilworth Road makes me smile. If you've not been it is really the most remarkable of routes to your seat in the away end.

The other semi final pits Nottingham Forest against Sheffield United, tomorrow.

I suspect, I will watch this rather than the Newcastle v Arsenal game tonight.

One of my favourite weeks of the season, the play offs in each league, the added bonus of Rangers in the EL final on Wednesday but the end of the Premier League and the drama that will bring.

My Mrs keeps banging on about how I was watching the "important games" earlier this season and I try to explain they are important because it decides who plays in these important games :D

I can see Newcastle beating Arsenal tonight, not sure about Huddersfield or Luton but I don't feel it will matter as Forest will win the play offs in the Championship.

Luton in the PL with that ground would be marvelous. It's not even Championship standard

Huddersfield looked the better team on Friday, but anything can happen particularly with that ref , at least it’s not Friend I suppose.

Hudds should have had a peno.
Clear foul.

I like 'Udders. Glad they've got though.
But you've to feel for Luton. They were the better side really.

Hudders celebrating like they are up !
When we won at Reading I liked that the players just came to applaud us fans at the end, they and Coyle knew the job wasn't done.

Not quite as over the top as Lampard & Derby three years ago. You’d have thought they’d won the Champions League that night. Then they lost the final.

I think a big part of that was because it was against Leeds and there was a lot of bad blood between the teams after the spygate incident earlier in the season.

I did prefer the understated celebrations we saw at the Madjeski in 09 though. Still work to do

I’m sure it was exaggerated because of spygate but it was ridiculously over the top.

Both good,
both have good academies.
if we go down these are the sort of club we should try to copy.

We've already got a category one academy.

No foul for me. Yes, two players went for the same ball and the forward fell over, but I'm still not a fan of the idea that the forward has right of way and if he touches a defender it's a foul. Why would it not be a foul for the forward barging the keeper who was on the floor?

I would suggest that the category is less important than the end product

Looks most likely outcome but the great thing about Forest is they always have the potential to implode and mess it up.

"Dyche then leads them on a 5 season unbeaten run to take all the domestic honours available making Forest a European force again..."

We have for the moment yes, although even if it passes the PGAAC inspection, then sadly in the event of relegation it'll likely be one of the casualties, I sincerely hope not as a decent young player or two coming through the system is what we all wish to see, but the harsh realities of the huge drop in revenues will mean tough judgement calls unfortunately.

Huddersfield virtually scrapped their academy about four years ago, they are Cat 4 now which means no players under-16. They run an u17 team and a B team.

Yep, I read up on their restructuring.
Seems to be going OK for them.
