Holiday advice - snorkeling
Anyone got any good suggestions where to go for snorkeling?
I'm wanting to do it off the beach, not having to get boats etc.
Looking to go in August with 2 kids so I want to go somewhere family friendly.
Could really be anywhere (cost depending, it IS the school holidays ) - Wouldn't really be looking to go to Egypt/Mid East so has anyone got any experience of areas I should be looking at?
Cheers

Morre Jable, Fuerteventura
Saw a sting ray just off the beach there with a snorkel last month
Its nice for kids as well, as some days its good for body boarding, and the beach is so big it never gets busy

Hikkaduwa was one of the best snorkelling experiences I have ever had (off the beach). From swimming with green turtles to seeing thousands of fish of the coral reef.
Couldn’t recommend it more.

Majorca Cala bona, Cala d'Or safe for kids and plenty of fish. Lanzarote playa chica at Puerto del Carmen.

Great place but not one to recommend at the moment given the news and latest FCO advice: 'The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) now advises against all but essential travel to Sri Lanka, due to ongoing political and economic instability'Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 1:45 pmI went snorkelling and scuba diving in Sri Lanka in April this year.

Yes that’s a good point. There was political turmoil whilst we were there but it looks to have progressed.

Olu Deniz in Turkey ... great fun down at tge lagoon snorkelling along the cliff face ... sea horses and a miriad of fish ... feeding the fish with bread crumbs great fun for the kids ... also a day trip to The Saklikent Gorge great for kids followed by white water rafting on the river (assuming your kids are teens or near teens and not toddlers T_E obviously) if they are teenagers they might pester to go paragliding off the mountain

There’s a great day out catamaran from Bridgetown, Barbados that does snorkelling all down the west coast of the island.
Swam up close with a few turtles - pretty incredible!

there's a reason claretdiver spends his time in Asia...... you have to also bear in mind it sounds like the family are beginners, and then there is access. Red Sea has been mentioned, and to what has already been posted I would add Aruba in the Caribbean, as well as Belize. If all of that is too expensive consider the Florida Keys and you can mix it with Disney, where they have man-made snorkeling
Re: Holiday advice - snorkeling
Both Lanzarote and Fuertaventura are brilliant for snorkelling from the beach. Seen some brilliant fish in both these areas.

Perhaps a little far but I did snorkelling a few years ago on the island of Ko Tao (Thailand) and it was incredible. Would love to return.

Pre covid we were regular Red Sea every year, from Namma Bay and it is absolutely stunning, but I see you mentioned you would rather not do Egypt.

I was in Sri Lanka a few years ago and went wading from the beach into shallow coral. I was up to my waist just looking at the different fish when a two and half foot black tipped reef shark swam past my legs. Certainly managed to get my attention.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Tue May 17, 2022 1:45 pmI went snorkelling and scuba diving in Sri Lanka in April this year.

Re: Holiday advice - snorkeling
My wife and I had a very similar experience except it was with the green turtles. I can’t recommend the snorkelling any more that out there, it was truly amazingCirrus_Minor wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 7:20 pmI was in Sri Lanka a few years ago and went wading from the beach into shallow coral.
