F**K Weghorst, I'm done supporting him. **** off to Turkey, a worst standard than the Championship. Nobody disrespects my club in the press

Jelle Vossen, Belgian international, Poundland Dries Mertens. Was excited when we signed him but not to be.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 11:11 amWho was that lad that was signed under Laws? Big Fred Nimani was it? Who was the lad who came for about 6 weeks and left under Dyche - I think he was dutch? Then there was Hennings as well..... Due diligence looks to be lacking.
I can understand Weghorst wanting top flight football to preserve his international status, but it's just not what we want or need this. I was unbelievably chuffed when we signed him, what a disappointment it's been. Knew he'd likely leave if we got relegated but hoped it would happen better than this. What a mess.
Re: Wout Weghorst
Really disappointed with his comments. I have stuck up for him, until now. Perhaps if he had done what he was paid well to do, which is actually score a few goals, we wouldn't be in the Championship. At least Cornet and Pope (so far!) haven't thrown any toys from the pram, and the pair of them have actually proven they are good enough to play top flight football. I hope we get rid and it doesn't cost us too much.
Re: Wout Weghorst
Sounds like he doesn’t lose out at all after failing. No other Premier League club would touch him. Way off the standard required. We need grafters and commitment in the Championship not overpaid prima donnas.

Re: Wout Weghorst
All well and good if he's doing his bit nd leading by example, but i imagine if i had tried that here while missing sitters he'd have had some "honest discussions" with some colleagues pretty sharpishwilliamjblazkowicz wrote: ↑Wed May 25, 2022 12:25 pmThere was an interesting quote in The Athletic about Wout:
"The Dutch striker is an intense character, driven and constantly putting in extra work, searching for improvement, including sending late-night messages to team-mates with thoughts on how they could improve."
I assume "they" refers to the team as a whole. I hope he wasn't messaging Popey telling him how to improve his positioning

This is what happens when you get a manager who doesn’t spend the money that’s available!!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 10:57 amJust not what we wanted back in January and not what we need now. A bit like Rouwen Hennings, he lacks the pace and more so the strength to play in English football. We are going to lose on him so best to accept that and move on. And I hope when the new manager comes in, he gets to make the decision on who we sign.

We have had grafters for years and that's why we didn't improve.
We need better footballers to go with the grafters already in the squad.

I mean, what is it that he's said to upset people? If he agreed to leave if relegated in advance the I don't see an issue.
The way I read it; he was just saying it was already agreed. Can't argue with that.
Can't imagine it will go down so well with the existing players if we do manage to get promoted again and he trots back in the team though.

All this moaning about burnout - so they give us a silly tournament to supposedly replace friendlies. After which we will have pointless tournaments branded as pre season games (solely to make more money) followed quickly by the start of a new season into which they are shoehorning a bloody World Cup.
Far too much football, far too much greed and so much money involved that it becomes a vicious circle. Football is slowly eating itself to death - a long prolonged one at that!

Watched the first 20 mins - he tried to control a goal kick on his chest and got clattered. Winning a free kick has been his contribution

He touched the ball 3 times in the first 30 minutes, 1 was a headed clearance, then I switched it off, so boring.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 8:31 pmWatched the first 20 mins - he tried to control a goal kick on his chest and got clattered. Winning a free kick has been his contribution

I don't mind the idea of the Nation's league, but after covid it would have made sense to scrap this latest edition.
The problem is greed, everybody involved in football is too selfish to make any kind of compromise which will hit them in the pocket.

I believe that's a problem in all European countries except here and he's not shown or produced enough to attract another EPL club, so it's the Championship or Turkish Premier league as the lack of a Vax isn't an issue there either.

Just watched it back.
Definitely beef between them. Looked like he refused to shake Roberts hand, Roberts confronted him and Weghorst walked away shouting something.
What a disaster he’s been for us

I imagine and hope that Roberts said “Pity you couldn’t manage anything like that in a match that mattered Wout”.

10/10 for Roberts. As for WW hope the club tell him not to bother with pre season and to not enter the town again, we’ve had some wastes of money over the years but he’s top of the list.

Re: Wout Weghorst
The anti Weghorst stuff in relation to his attitude is very much at odds with everything Dyche said about him in the first month after he’d signed. He went out of his way to say what a professional attitude Weghorst brought to the club with him.
The signing hasn’t really worked, but this painting him as a pantomime villain is a bit OTT.

Re: Wout Weghorst
He acted like a petulant child at Watford. Players show anger when subbed often, but not like that match. He sat behind Jackson staring at him shaking his head. I would like to think he apologised to him and the team when Jackson’s substitution proved the catalyst for us to change a defeat into a victory, but judging by his reluctance in celebrating the win with the fans and rest of the squad, I somehow doubt it.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 10:01 pmThe anti Weghorst stuff in relation to his attitude is very much at odds with everything Dyche said about him in the first month after he’d signed. This tonight looked very much like a player (Roberts) getting something off his chest that he has perhaps wanted to say for many months, and who can blame him. Weghorst was a terrible signing for us in the system we play (not his fault). A player with a lovely first touch and close control, but with such a chronic lack of pace and physicality that he ended up looking a fish out of water. He missed crucial chances in the games that mattered, then made clear very quickly after relegation that he was off. He deserves any and all stick he gets. Pantomime villain, perhaps, but in a terrible season for all involved and with many players/staff underperforming, Weghorst was the sour cherry on top of a particularly out of date cake.
He will score for fun in Turkey, as that’s what flat track bullies do. England was too good for him, and he wants out because he knows it.

That is all well and good, but the rumours for a while have been that he isn’t popular in the dressing room. Roberts hasn’t really dispelled that notion tonight. Reading between several lines and the club may want him out as much as he may want to himself.agreenwood wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 10:01 pmThe anti Weghorst stuff in relation to his attitude is very much at odds with everything Dyche said about him in the first month after he’d signed. Re: Wout Weghorst
Hoping exactly the same. Surely if there are multiple suitors goals like that should trigger a bidding war.
By the way, if Hennessey was playing he would have saved it! Wasn't even on the bench which seemed odd after his heroics against Ukraine.
