We are going up

Post by Woodleyclaret » Tue May 24, 2022 8:47 am

Tarks going, Dwight may go ,Maxwel going? and Nick Pope off, maybe
But we have a core of a strong team along with some incoming players and our U23 players stepping up we imo have a very good chance of bouncing straight back up

Agree. A decent managerial appointment, good recruitment and we’ll be up there for sure.

Don't want to throw a downer on things but I'm in the opposite camp.

Firslty, could we even attract a decent manager with all the negativity surrounding the club, in particular the finances? I don't see us as being that attrctive of a proposition to any other manager apart from ones who've been out of work for some time and are desperate for work.

The difference between Fulham, Bournemouth and ourselves, is those two clubs not only got to keep the vast majority of their best players, they actually added to their squads and made them stronger. Chrisite chosing Bornemouth over us for example when we were a Premier League club.

Our new guy will not only have to highly likely cope with the loss of 3/4 of our best players, he will also have to deal with massive gaps as the OOC players leave, but also an ageing squad that is far from ideal for a packed Championship camapaign. With the reported loan repayments, what sort of finance will be availble to cope with all this, and mount a serious promotion push?

To me this feels so so much different from the last time we went down and bounced right back up.

I hope I'm totally wrong...

I think in 2 or 3 weeks time we'll know which part of the league table will be concerning us. By then we should know who the new manager is, and have a good idea as to what Pace's intentions are.

So far Pace has been able give us a lot of smoke and mirrors, but that won't be possible anymore. His words won't matter, because there will have to be actions, one way or another, and then we'll know exactly where we stand with him.

Some huge clubs down there and only 3 places up for grabs. Fulham and Bournemouth and others before them have shown it can done quickly though. Need to have a real go at the first attempt.

Id bet Richardson has a break through year, if he can stay fit. Bobby Thomas has been in and around the first team for a while now and looks just as good, if not better than Jimmy Dunne (who just won poty at QPR). Not sure on the others but Dodgson could replace Pieters (should we not decide to keep him) and Helm has looked like he’s got something about him, could be a squad option in midfield.

Looks a fairly weak division next season to me.

Of course there are so many variables our end, but if we can get a decent manager appointment with a vision on how we are going to play, then that's a start

Not saying they will ‘rip up’ the Champ but could all play a part, which would be nice.

Yes, I've mentioned this on another thread. If we were unwilling to splash what was needed to stay in the Prem I can't see that this will change in the Championship when we're faced with this very strange financial mess we seem to be in . So what have we got in the pipeline .Who are the prodigies who didn't get a look in ( for reasons I can understand ) in the Prem ? Question for.CT.... you obviously watch the U 23s and others a lot so who are the likely new faces we are going to see next season ? We don't seem to have brought anyone through since Dwight and it would be reassuring to think that there are some decent prospects already in house who can give us something to look forward to next season.

Personally I don't think the Championship has much quality in it especially if Forest go up.

IF we get the managerial appointment right, keep some of the old guard and add some decent quality then we'll be reet.

This is exactly as I see it.

We’re actually quite lucky that we’ve gone down this year, with two much poorer teams than us, and, to my knowledge, no huge financial backing (comparative to Brentford/Fulham anyway).

The EFL financial regulations have really kicked in in recent years. The standards are poor. Anyone who thinks we’ll be unable to attract any players or managers are way off. Obviously not the calibre we might otherwise have gone for, but our budget will be one of the largest in the league and providing we use that wisely, we’ll be there or thereabouts.

Many fans on here didn’t want Dunne anywhere near our team. He just got POTY at QPR by way of example. We’ve also just finished a poor season with lots of draws but basically have a very strong defence that prem teams have struggled to break down. I don’t see Championship teams having much luck.

Keeping a core together & getting some pacey and creative attacking talent is they key.

The championship is knowhere near as bad as some make out.

Look at West Brom, mid table finish and I would argue there squad has similar quality to ours.

Midfield is our biggest problem, plenty of teams down there have better midfields.

We'll be the team everyone wants to beat and the high number of Derby matches will make it more difficult. But as long as we get the managerial position sorted and strengthen the midfield then we shouldn't be far off.

Let’s be honest. Who hasn’t missed the derbies. Blackpool, Preston, Blackburn and Burnley all in the same league. Can’t remember that happening for a while.

It is the first time Blackpool, Preston, Blackburn, Burnley and Wigan will compete in the same division.

The major issue is the clubs unity - between board and all the myths/facts/bullshit and the supporters - you cant do it without unity. We enter next season with massive beating sticks ready to lash out at the first sign of a bad performance / sale of a good player / a defeat - beating sticks like the board / new manager / no SD - ETC ETC. The current "relationship" with the board and supporters seem very "cloak and dagger" - if it was a proper human relationship it would be at counselling now due to major issues with honesty and trust.

When you wake up on a Saturday morning and it’s the day we play Blackburn at home you will be thanking the good lord that it’s not Man City in the EPL. Those are the days that you really look forward to with a passion. Not many of those days in the prem.

Interesting games but the locality makes it all the more difficult.
I’d sacrifice local pride for points anytime as our competitors won’t have that derby problem

Radio Lancs said it was 1960/61 since Blackpool, Preston Burnley we’re together, no mention of Wigan although Bolton were in the league then too

Wigan didn't join the league ranks until 1978, but yes all the other main Lancashire clubs were solid top flight sides in the 60's, and often reached the cup final as well.

Plenty of derbies in there. A few london clubs. Watford/Luton. Sunderland/Middlesbrough/Hull. A few midlands clubs. Only really Norwich who don’t have any.

Norwich's closest away game next season is Luton which is 100 miles away.

I'm looking forward to it. Loads of local derbies and plenty of away games within a 2 hour travelling distance. If we'd have stayed up over half our away games would have been in London or the South coast.

Next season should purely be seen as 46 games to get back the Premier League.

Every game is potentially worth three points to us. Great as it would be to beat Rovers I couldn't care less if we won/lost as long as we get promoted at the end of the season.

That's all that should really matter at this point in time.

Appointing Kompany is a good start, feel more confident than I did a few days ago now.

Keep a solid core, and add a sprinkling of youth and we'll be a match for anyone in this league.

They should probably be in the Belgian league to be fair.
