Collins could do better than Leeds for me. If we have put a relegation release clause in a contract for a 20 year old then something has gone wrong. Looking at the deals with Cornet and Weghorst though, it wouldn’t surprise me.
I don’t disagree about Collins doing better than Leeds. Ideally, and who knows what is in his contract, we would hold on to him for longer. His value is only going to go one way and when he does go, I want us to receive top dollar (ideally with a sell on clause).

It’s easy enough to say ‘something has gone wrong’ if there is a relegation clause in a deal, what is less easy is if the player(s) will only agree to a deal if a clause is in place.

I’d far rather have these players with a clause than not have them at all.

Oh completely agree. I hope we somehow keep him as he’s perfect for VK system and would rip up the Champ. A season out of the spotlight, playing well might do him some good too mentally.

Worth mentioning Graeme Bailey also said we will accept a fee of around £12m for Pope. There are going to be some shell shocked posters on here.
Nixon said we value him at £40M.

You can have all the relegation clauses you want...the key is to avoid relegation

And Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes Newcastle should sign Pope this summer, for a fee reported to be around £40m.

“I’d pay it [£40 million for Pope], I think he’s that good,” said Merson on Sky Sports. "I think he’s very underrated. I think he’s a top goalkeeper. In this day and age, everybody has to have a good goalkeeper.

“Newcastle [could be an option]. I know Newcastle’s goalkeeper [Martin Dubravka] has done great since he’s been back in. But I don’t think there is a problem paying £40million for a goalkeeper, nowadays.”

We've been in the premier league for six years

We have a nucleus of good premier league players and clubs will be interested

The problem we have is that we don't have a billionaire owner who doesn't care about losses or reality and we (and the players) have to cut their cloth accordingly

The players only have a short career, and they won't want to hang around on 50% less than what they could earn in the premier league

Theoretically Collins, Pope, Roberts, McNeil, Weghorst, Cornet, Taylor could all go

The only good thing about being relegated this year is that at least it coincided with a lot of players being out of contract, so in theory if we have to build a new side we have both the spaces in the wage budget and the transfer fees that these players will bring in

The clubs that seem to be interested in our players are the ones more likely to be involved in a relegation scrap so that's something players will have to weigh up.

It would be a miracle if we held onto Collins. Real shame as one more season and I think we’d be looking at £50m.

The way the club's finances are structured suggests that missing out on promotion is not an option. The unenviable task of selling assets who will make promotion more likely doesn't make sense, especially when you're trying to do it with loan players that will probably need replacing once Premier League status is regained. This is a defining season for BFC both on and off the pitch.

I'm hoping VK can have a conversation with Collins, McNeil and Pope akin to the one Scott Parker had with Christie when he chose Bournemouth in the Championship over us in the Premier League. VK is a very intelligent leader and I'm sure will have no difficulty selling his aspirations to the players linked with a move away. Collins will see Kompany as a player he can emulate and McNeil will relish playing free flowing attacking football.

The strongest link is Newcastle but can't see them going down. Regardless of that, any player leaving for a PL club will double their wages and more importantly will be guaranteed PL football.

Absolutely agree with this. The fact is, Burnley will only be an attractive club to many rising stars as a stepping stone and showcase in the prem. As a Championship club we’re far less attractive, so it doesn’t surprise me that these clauses are inserted - not that I’m happy about it. I do think the chap that said he has one is very reliable though.

I’d go all out to keep Collins. If it means giving him the wages we’d otherwise have given Mee on the alleged 2x deal we offered - do it. If it means offering him the captaincy - do it. If it means offering him a % of his future sell on fee as part of a renegotiated deal - do it. We need VK to work his charms and go all out.

He’s said in a recent interviews “we want to get back to where we belong” and “I joked with Cullen that he’s coming back to Burnley with me”. He’s also spoke highly of VK, but didn’t commit himself entirely with some “who knows” comments. But in essence, he’s said enough to give me hope he’s open minded to returning and helping us get back up 🤞🏻🤞🏻🙏🏻

Merson’s got it right. The way some of our fans undervalue our own players when the PL is awash with cash and oil money is staggering. Pace won’t, I know that for sure.

Would love to see a highlights reel of Popes saves over the last few seasons.

Those comments from Merson were a month ago.

Also, I don’t value Pope under 20m, I actually think he’s ‘worth’ more - but transfers don’t always play out like that.

There needs to be a market - example, Collins seems to have 4/5 clubs keen, that can then force a bit of a bidding war, plus we really need to keep him, that adds to the price we can let him go for.

Pope on the other hand, it appears Newcastle are the only club in for him, he wants/needs a Prem return, we need to sell for some funds and VK might not be over keen on keeping him anyway due to style of play.

You can’t just sit there, with the above factors at hand, and say ‘Hi Newcastle, it’s £30m or nothing’ - they walk away and get a different keeper. They hold all the cards on this deal, if there even is a deal, and hence the fee will be far more in their favour than ours.

More clubs have been linked with him. I'm sure the club will negotiate more robustly than you suggest. Newcastle do not hold all the cards.

Which clubs?

Fulham were - they are signing a keeper from Lazio on a free and / or Bernd Leno on loan.
Forest were - they are signing Henderson from United
Southampton were - they are signing Bazanu from City for 12m
West Ham mentioned somewhere - they are signing Areola

Have any of those deals happened? In any case Newcastle don't hold all the cards.

All at an advanced stage according to reports.

Okay they may not hold all the cards, but they'd certainly hold most of them, which would swing a price more in the favour of the buyer than the seller.

Lets see!

Northern Echo piece suggesting Newcastle are ‘increasingly confident’ of landing Pope.

This does sound quite likely now doesn’t it.

Would prefer any of our ex players to go anywhere but Newcastle. Used to quite like them before but hate what they represent now. Just shows most players are motivated by money before anything else.

Looking like they want him for pre season so could be imminent.

Hopefully more than the 12m figure floating around

Nixon said Kompany is keen on Muric at City if Pope is sold.

I’d imagine he is a ball playing keeper.

Where are they going to find a keeper as good as Nick for 30 million. If he existed they'd be there already.

30m probs gets you Sanchez at Brighton who was outstanding last season and a very, very good ball playing keeper, probably suiting Howe’s football more

30m probs gets you Sanchez at Brighton who was outstanding last season and a very, very good ball playing keeper, probably suiting Howe’s football more
There's a lot of supposition there. Who knows if Brighton are willing to sell, who knows if they'd accept 30 million, and even if they did, he isn't as good as Nick.

Apart from Allison, Ederson and Donnaruma what Keeper couldn’t you buy for 30m?

Ramsdale immediately springs to mind. There'll be more though

Even if they were, (highly doubt mendy would go for that).

We are talking about the elite of the elite keepers.

Pope is knowhere near that level

I can’t see it with Ramsdale personally.

Only 5 keepers in history have sold for more than 30m.

How much did Arsenal pay for him and do you think his value will have since increased?

They paid 22 I believe. I suspect they would get around that again for him. Possibly approaching 30.

But again I think this highlights how far away from that sum pope is. If Ramsdale is worth that with his age, experience and contract then pope is worth knowhere near that sum.

Kepa, Courtois, Moraes come to mind but I take your point, Goalkeepers are cheap in comparison to their importance on the pitch and the massive impact they can have.

They paid £24m rising to £30m. His value will have increased. We won't get £30m for Pope but I was just responding to your question about which other keepers would sell for £30m.

So you think Mendy has more than halved in value since joining Chelsea ? Ok

Your potentially right about Ramsdale fee.

I think the point I was making is that very very few keepers sell for over 30m.

Some of the suggestions of 40m are just fairy tale stuff at this point.

Well actually when looking at the ‘stats’ that you seem to cream yourself over, Pope has actually been performing at an elite level for a duration of time.

Also, how much did Chelsea sign Kepa for?

We can easily get 25-30 for Pope - he’s at the beginning of his prime for a keeper l
