Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Personally I think if we do sign 3 cb’s then this suggests Collins is leaving.

Could do with a private messaging facility on here so that quarreling & point-scoring can be taken outside.....or sent outside!

Yep I’d agree with Egan Riley / Thomas back up.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:40 pmI suspect you are right.
I imagine The lad from Oxford and THB will be the starting two if that’s the case

By doing City a favour , and giving one of their highly rated youngsters game time - which will also give us more options and likely improve what we have , they may also see this as a fruitful relationship with VK and help us out with more transfers , permanent (cut price with sell on clauses perhaps) and/or favourable loan deals .KRBFC wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:36 pmI have no idea, I also have no idea why we're signing loan players to develop for other teams with zero chance at signing them permanently. So we're gonna sign 2 young CBs and instantly block their progression and limit their game time by loaning another youngster to play ahead of them? strange to me. If Collins is going, I'd rather we replaced with young quality to develop rather than sheer quantity at low prices.
Just a thought

Does the under 21 (or is it U23?) rule apply in the Championship?
If so we could easily have 6 in the squad.

I have to say that I’d be worried having 2 young centre halves playing together. I’d have liked one old head at the back like when we had McGreal and Cahill.

Do you think Kompany is going to change his tactics/formation from Anderlecht?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:44 pmOr a change in formation maybe
We may not stick with 4 at the back for example.

One of the most common gripes on here is McNeil being unable to swing in a cross with his right foot.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:27 pmI don’t get this left sided cb and right sided cb nonsense. To me a cb is a cb
The same can apply to defenders for tackles.
It requires a shift in thinking, using a weaker foot to get blocks in, slide tackles and clearances, just like attacking players not every defender is comfortable using both feet

Doesn’t hurt to have another option - in fact we’ve seen first hand what it can do to stick religiously to something , even when it isn’t workingNewcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:46 pmDo you think Kompany is going to change his tactics/formation from Anderlecht?

Possible of course but VK played a 4 for his entire time at Anderlecht. Can’t see him changing that suddenly.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:44 pmOr a change in formation maybe

Agree. But I wouldn't necessarily be worried. But you need one cb to be experienced imo. Doesn't necessarily have to be old player though.

Dunno, he may, he may not, I'm not overly worried either way, I was just suggesting it's a possibility.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 7:46 pmDo you think Kompany is going to change his tactics/formation from Anderlecht?
I won't lose sleep over thinking about it though.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
I totally agree.
Even Fergie when playing all those young kids in the first team still had Pallister and Bruce at the back. Would have been a disaster otherwise.

In all this talk of starting and back up centre halves, why do so many ignore the existence of Kevin Long? He's a fully-fledged international, had had many games at PL level where he's looked more than solid, and his experience will be invaluable amongst these young lads.

It’s unlikely he’s anywhere near good enough on the ball for a side wanting to control possession.Fretters wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:15 pmIn all this talk of starting and back up centre halves, why do so many ignore the existence of Kevin Long? Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
Just to nip this in the bud…there hasn’t been quarrelling, point-scoring or bickering on this thread today. The poster you replied to was referring to one of my discussions as a ‘tête-à-tête’, when the reality is that I was just having conversations with the various people who chose to reply to my posts.
I don’t want to divert the thread again so no need for you or anyone else to respond. But this is the fourth of fifth time I’ve seen reference to bickering or similar, when in fact all that took place was good natured, civil discussions between people with different opinions - nothing personal, just opposing views. That’s what this messageboard is all about.
There sometimes is bickering/quarrelling on this board and occasionally a line is crossed, but I take issue with my genuine discussions with people to be referred to by those terms. Life would be very boring if everyone agreed so in my opinion people need to stop being so sensitive and make peace with the fact that there will be disagreements on certain subjects, and as long as they stay within the rules of the forum this shouldn’t be a problem.
Sorry for the long post, just bugged by some of the comments.

How would we know? He’s only played hoofball for the last 10 years but apart from the occasional error, which all our players have in them, he has generally been more than adequate at PL level.

I had a quick look on 3 of their messageboards and I could find him mentioned once. Although on Twitter one of their fans writes:
"If the Wiles to Sheff U/Burnley rumours are true, it would be a proper move for a proper player. Deserves a realistic crack at getting to Prem. Best academy product in a long, long time & a top man. Should be a very decent fee for us too."
Another wrote:
"Not believing the Wiles/Burnley rumours just yet.
But IF true…..best of luck to him. Great player and always gonna go to bigger better things!"

'Box to box midfielder but a lot lot better when given space to roam around the attackers. Will lose the ball a bit, mainly because he's trying to create things. Not scared to have a shot from distance either.'
'great player. can play pretty much anywhere in midfield, not afraid to shoot, very technical, absolute workhorse. deserves a move if he wants to fulfull his potential.'

Sounds like we could have some screamers being scored this season.
Re: Summer 2022 Burnley Transfer Window Rumours - Links - Discussion
With the change in playing style to one which controls more possession (we'll be a 'bigger fish' too, so teams will stand off us a bit more), having the ability to score from range to break the deadlock is very, very useful.

Looking like Collins is on his way for a whopping fee, you can't blame the board for cashing in.
Problem is we are replacing Mee, Tarkowski and Collins with kids who are inexperienced at this level. We must keep Long who is more than capable of holding his own at championship level in case these new guys are slow to make the step up

Reading between the lines, I guess that the Ballard deal fell through due to Arsenal’s terms. That’s if it has fallen through?

The last I read was that Villa won't be going for him as they are prioritising other areas. So unless there's been news since last night, I'm going off the stance that we'll only sell unless a huge offer comes in.Top Claret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 7:42 amLooking like Collins is on his way for a whopping fee, you can't blame the board for cashing in.

Fair enough. I reckon you could be right anyway. But it just depends who is prepared to pay north of £30m.

Every player has their price.
IF Collins goes it won’t be cheap. That money will need to buy experience to replace.
Don’t buy that these youngsters are being brought in with the expectation that they are there to replace Collins.

I think we should resist all offers unless he badly wants out.
It is imperative we keep him this season as he Is the lynch pin of our defence and will be a key player in a promotion push
